@@LennyNero2019 No, the Spanish Blu-ray has better resolution and definition than what is shown here. This video appears pixelated and is probably from a compressed online version. The actual Spanish disc has much better image compression than this.
I really don't understand why Cameron thinks his films should look like an AI painting. It looks so unnatural that way.
Maybe he is smart and will sell those movies without AI a few years later again to make twice the profit?

Yes it looks better but they have used way to much digital noise reduction where people look like wax and that's never a good thing , 4k looks better when the digital noise is left alone

Yes, the typical awful "orange & teal" mastering which not only ruins modern movies (where one could still argue it to be the art style of current times), but only old ones as the comparison clearly shows. Just retarded.
There can only be one explanation for this bizarre trend and that is that it is done entirely on a computer program that saves much time and money as opposed to proper color.
Wow! At 6:10, Tom Arnold looks like the joker in the 4k version!!! This looks absolutely awful to me. Yes there more detail but the whole image has been scrubbed clean. Zero texture or dimension to the image. It looks like they have sent it through the DNR on an extended cycle. It makes Arnie look like a polished Austrian Oak at 3:15 and the skin tones at 3:29 speak for themselves - did someone spill coffee on the print? The blue and yellow filters are waaaay too harsh as well. Such a shame as I was really looking forward to this one. I only hope that the image looks better in motion.
I think it's the A.I. really doing this. It looks like particularly good A.I. renders half the time. That's insane.
Definitely a better version then the 'bootleg' Blu Ray, which was not an authorized release in the first.
While I agree the smoothing of the grain is on the downside, the HDR and deep blacks, definitely enhance the picture.
Not the transfer many were hoping for, but leaps ahead of any of the past transfers.
The CGI or smooth look is very distracting and ruins the vibe of the film
What “counterfeit” (or in your incorrect words: bootleg) are you talking about? True Lies was officially released on blu ray in Europe and is a fine and in my opinion more natural transfer than what I see here.
It's actually a bootleg Blu-ray. Spain have many. Amazon etc don't do anything to stop it
@@ps5andstuffhere The blu ray is not a bootleg it is a legitimate release based on the laws within the country of it's release, Spain, hence why Amazon stock it.

If your screen is big enough it won't be visible. These master's are created for cinema size screens. Our TV screens are so small they concentrate the the overall colour pallette and it looks teel heavy.
It's not visible on my projector screen. Only if I take a picture of an image on my screen with my phone. Then I can see it.

The blue filter was a Cameron trademark to most of his Sci-Fi action films - esp T2, Abyss, Aliens.
@@mb3558 yeah when originaly filmed. Not after the movie is made and released. In Abyss now there is almost diferent levels of colours. All is blue.
@@THEDREAMASTER, no the Blue gel light is a trademark of all of Cameron's films, including The Terminator. It was the standard blue dye used during the photochemical colour timing days. Lots and lots of movies of that era had this intense blue. Cameron had actually changed this to sea green on the earlier Blu-rays of Aliens, T2 and Titanic. The 4K of Titanic, at least shows the correct shade of blue now.

How any lover of film can watch this and think the AI enhancement is good is beyond me. Shame.
And yes, it exists, whether you like it or not. It's like I'm telling you how come there are people who love music and prefer to hear singers use Autotune rather than their real voice.
We're at that cross over point at the moment where alot of film viewers did not grow up with films shot photo-chemically and are used to there movies all looking like DC and marvel movies. So movies shot on film, DNR'd and sharped will look fine to them.
True but if I have to choose between that and the terrible Blu-ray, I will take this. I would like a real 4K transfer but we will not get one from Cameron.

For me im staying with the 1080p version, the new 4k which iv watched has too much ai upscale where faces look like wax at times, yes most of the movie looked fine but its just not for me

You either like this scrubbed AI wax museum look or you don't. I don't like this look, but I'm seeing it used a lot more with tiktok edits. It's gaining some popularity, but for me it's a no. I like the film grain left in, and I like the actors to look like they looked when they were being filmed. Not the almost Playstation 5 version of themselves. Also they have gone crazy with teal in some of these shots, and that comes at the expense or red. I wasn't going to buy this movie either way, but they've gone overboard with digital retouching. James clearly doesn't like how movie film has grain, but taking it out comes at a price.

Hands on film restoration wins hands down. This Ai remastering looks so off.
Seeing these comparisons between the two makes me proud that I preordered my 4K Blu-ray/Blu-ray combo with the digital copy on eBay and that it’ll be on its way to me.

Jim Cameron and Michael Mann do push the teal on their newer transfers.
It's just James Cameron and his hard-on for orange and teal.
So it's like the horrible Aliens AI transfer but like way WAY worse and more noticeable. Think people are gonna be finding it much harder to justify this one as somehow "looking great" like some people tried on the Aliens comparison.

I have had the Spanish bootleg sourced from the DTheater. It was rough looking and noisy. A step up from the LD.

Well Swat Well 99% of my comparisons come from physical Blu-rays, and if it's streaming then I always mention it or put it on my thumbnail.
The 4k disc won't be released until March 12th.

Resolution upgrade and HDR is clearly noticeable. Unfortunately the DNR makes faces super waxy and fake looking.
The artificial smoothing/grain scrubbing is far more obvious and noticeable in this one... But it's still gonna look better than the DVD surely and imo still doesn't look as bad as Terminator 2 4K

Thanks for the video Moon but.... I think this is going to be a frustrating transfer. While some scenes look fine (see 1:30, 6:26; 9:45, 10:07, 12:08, 13:28) others look horrible. Of note: at 4:18 - Arnolds face and the muzzle flash are blown out and you lose detail; at 7:25 - you lose details of the door behind Tom and Arnold; at 8:27 - Arnold's face loses detail; at 11:07 the zoom in on the bike looks like a painting; at 11:26 - Arnold's face looks like he's an a doll made of rubber. This was shot on film and should like it. Why James, why do you want your film to look like it was shot on digital??? Yeah it might look better in motion but I have my doubts. I don't have good feeling about this and will wait for reviews.
I wouldn't have a problem if it actually looked like it was shot digitally. It just looks like oil-paintings made by A.I.
Not as bad as I was expecting, clearly some DNR but mostly looks fine apart from that one shot of Tom Arnold smiling in the car. I have the 4K preordered, looking forward to seeing the film again.

I think you meant to say 2020 edition as the Spanish "Bootleg" Bluray was released back in June 2020 unless you're referring to some other unknown obscure 2010 Bluray release ;)

EVERYONE is applying this bizarre teal to everything these days, As a movie buff who saw all these movies in the theater decades ago I just simply avoid this trash and stick with old blu rays and even old dvds which look natural. These movie companys are changing the original look for the sake of change just to re sell the movie for the umpeenth time.

Same story all over again. Please Park Road NZ, UNDO AI and leave grain alone. Just clean speckles and respect celluloid colorimetry and organic contrast. They grade by 'normalizing' the image, looking digital. Texture is more important than sharpness. A true 720p may look better than 4k-wax.

I'm still picking up True Lies and Abyss but the image looks, well, fake. Not just faces but all surfaces look like CGI. Too bad because there's no telling when/ if another physical version of these films will be made...

They did the film scanning years ago in 4k. Which IMO is not good enough anymore. Film has higher resolution. They should have done it in 8k, also for future remastered version when AI technology is better.

Just saw some screenshots of the 4K version on a review site, but those don't look anything like the ones shown here. Considering those were press releases, I am more inclined to believe the ones shown here give a better representation of the release. I came here to see if the Spanish version was worth it. And I have my answer. I really don't understand James Cameron, he is a brilliant filmmaker. But why he wants to butcher his own films like this is beyond me!

I have the Spanish Blu Ray. The physical 4K really excels when reproducing dark scenes and color. There are a few mildly waxy face scenes I have seen in early reviews, but I think I can attribute some of that to thick actor's makeup that wasn't appreciated in the lesser resolution of the Blu Rays. The Atmos has gotten good reviews so far, so I think this is worth the upgrade.

It was modified with A.I. Transferring the file to digital is not going to change that.
Why not compare the 4k disc with the blu-ray disc that it came with instead the 2020 Spanish blu-ray
Seeing Jamie Lee Curtis in SUPER HIGH DEFINITION is the MAIN REASON i'm picking this up.
Looks like they went a touch too far with AI DNR. Some of the CU shots of faces have a hint of 'plastic face' about them. Not as bad as the DNR used on the bluray of Predator years ago though.
Damn it. I wanted this in full screen. Not widescreen. Why does it come out in fullscreen on tv but not on dvd or Blu-ray?

Sure, details-wise, it's better than the bootleg, it's "real" 4k, but um... that's not ALL that is, guys.
A couple of things stood out as looking very weird, Tom Arnold’s face planting the cig-cam, Art Malik’s coattail jumping from the rooftop, and Tom Arnold again in the bright white corridor. Overall though, wow, what a revelatory transformation!
Good and bad. It’s kind of weird. The warmth is gone, textures look off, whites waay overblown. Resolution is significantly better though. Love this movie.
Based on this i would say it's the best It's ever gonna look. In motion it must be even better so i'm happy to order one copy. Farewell bootleg....
No, this is an awful transfer. The untouched Reliance Mediaworks 4K restoration would look much better.
In some scenes the blues were overdone in the 4K version. And I must say that it feels a little like cheating if they really used AI to upscale it and sell it as 4K. If an original video for example is not sharp enough to show individual hairs, the AI basically "invents" hairs that were not really there. The same is true with all detailed surfaces. If AI is applied to a surface it was not trained on, the result can look very strange.
People complain about 4k ,cmon you know you want it with dolby vision and dolby atmos meeting the specifications of your TV and home theatre .STOP with the nonsense.
Some of it almost looks like they have done some more CGI work (bike off the building) but in general I don’t see what the fuss was about, it certainly beats the old HD version (which wasn’t that great to begin with to be fair)
Watch The Last Action Hero and you'll understand what we actually want to see. That movie is beautifully filmic, with fine grain, a highly resolving picture, inky blacks that lose no detail and brilliant highlights.
There was literally _no_ reason this needed an A.I. makeover. The only people who actually care are _also_ the few people who actually buy 4k. If a person doesn't recognize how ridiculous this looks, then the DVD should suit him just fine.
4K looks not so bad actually. I'm happy to own both versions.

You know, there is nothing stopping someone (who’s rich) from getting the negatives of *The Abyss, Aliens* and *True Lies* and putting out their own release. Sure, you’d have to either release it for free or in China (as they own Hollywood).

I'm going to go against the grain here . . .sorry, I'll get my coat. . .and say that while some of the well lit scenes are now perhaps a little too light, everything I've seen here is a vast improvement on the appalling DVD. Have the dark scenes been CGI'd to improve the visual quality? Very possibly. Is there a bit too much DNR? Probably. Do I care? At this point in time, no.
Sigh. Why only stills? It's one thing how the image processing looks in still images but what about in movement? This is a MOTION PICTURE after all. How the movie looks while its rolling is the most important thing!
6:25 one shows how the old soul has been drained and what has been left is bloodless! Holy Jumping Jehoshaphat! This is spectacularly bad! He has gone completely senile and not in any fun way; went to town with DNR and painted it bluish teal and green bananas! Old DVD is better or if you have that bootleg Blu-ray!

I'm confused about this comparison, because I thought True Lies was never released on Blu Ray, officially.
There was a bootleg in Spain that used the d-vhs transfer. It’s actually a decent blu for a bootleg.
I don't like it but at this point I just want the movie released on disc.
They look like claymation.

Thankfully the blue push is not visible on a big enough screen. It only shows up on TV screens because they are tiny compared to a cinema screen which is what the master is ultimately created for.

When you realize Paramount, an awful film company at restoring 4Ks does a much better job with The Crow than James Cameron's DNR'd mess of True Lies and Aliens on 4K.
At 11:09, guy/motorcycle looks like a CGI render now....hahahahaha. Doesnt remotely look realistic that motorcycle and the guy!

I can't believe there's another fantastic comparison like with the Aliens transfer, and again some people are complaining. They really need better glasses, if they can't see the mammoth improvement in this 4k. I mean, again: we have a very competent Blu-ray to begin with, but there's so much detail and color-depth improvement that in some shots the actors aren't even really recognizable until the 4k slide kicks in.
If there's anything to complain about the 4k, it's that in certain scenes, the gamma might be cranked just a tad too high, and that's what some are incorrectly calling "AI scrubbing" or whatever. Even in those scenes, some facial depth-of-field might get suppressed due to brightness, but overall the background depth improves.
And the 3 or 4 close-up comparisons once again proves there is far more detail in the 4k . Most notably, the writing on the computer chip between his fingers, and the perforation on the trigger-case Arnold holds.
I'm not a huge fan of this movie, but this 4k looks well worth picking up.
The Abyss looks amazing.

Should have ai generated Jamie’s naked boobs. No but for real one thing that’s a bit of a problem is this software is designed to treat blurry faces as being out of focus, when in fact they are in motion blur, which is why moving faces are in sharper detail then say their bodies on the 4K in spots. The HDR “clarity” is too strong and looks unnatural at times too. And obviously is stupid to just wipe every bit of noise without at least adding a little fake film grain back in, which would help a lot.
That being said it’s insane how much detail this software can add that was never there. Still uncanny but it’s getting closer fast and these tools are pretty new.
