I've bought my copy just the other day, and since then, i can't stop playing it, or thinking about it. An excellent game! The first game was kinda clunky, but after that it's been a lot smoother. The counting became a lot faster for me, cause now i know what i wanna do. So i recommend it to everyone to play at least 2 games before rating the game.
Thank you very much for a great review. I am really happy that you have so much fun playing it. :-) I noticed a small mistake in 3:40 - the room modifiers don't effect the ships movement, they apply only to resolving the rooms. The only way how to slow down enemy ships, are the grey AA gun rooms.
@@BoardGameCo Yeah, I figured out that you probably play it correctly. :-) Have fun playing. I am looking forward to your thoughts after diving deeper into the campaign.
For a price/worth guy as you are, I think we can all agree this game retail price is fantastic for what they give you. I think this game will go down the history as those solo game people will bring up again and again The only part I miss is the original PnP color scheme which I find less "busy"
im a big fan of solo dice games, when i can actually find the time to play; UFS, 1deck dungeon, and Onirim (not a dice game) are the ones i consistently play. fast and easy to setup short play times.
Thanks, as always, for your time and thoughts Alex. I've just added this to my boardgame collection (due to arrive today) as a birthday present to myself ☺️ Always glad to see you enjoying your experience and one with so little down sides/criticisms. Out of interest, have you tried Hostage Negotiator? It's another in about to add to my collection for solo only play.
This game reminds me of being a kid playing with military ships. When I shoot down ships I audibly go “pew pew!”. It’s very satisfying when you shoot down so many ships that the white ship can’t spawn lol.
I love this as a solo game. But I have fantasies of this being a multiplayer campaign game where everyone plays a different city and there is a simultaneous invasion and there may be special abilities allowing you to share dice or modify each other's dice. :)
You mentioned a possible minor dislike for some people (something that you don't mind)...that is there is going to be counting and recounting during the placement of dice. I see that as possible. Something that does well to counter that is that placement of any white die forces a re-roll of the unplayed dice. Re-rolls essentially represent a point of no going back because I forget what the previous numbers were. In this way, planning coordinated sequences of dice is somewhat minimized. I think that's great.
I loved the Print n Play version and I am interested in the campaign aspect of the game. Can you see the explosion targets under the ship tokens? They look translucent. That was my one concern, I didn't want to move them to see or remember, is that ship on an explosion space. Great solo game.
I recommend to check out the designer's diary about the ships design. It was one of the major things I planned to improve over the PnP version. :-) www.boardgamegeek.com/thread/2440410/designers-diary-1-enemy-ships
I wonder if they’re releasing the app they built publicly, it’s actually way easier to manage dice placements as it shows you real time where ships move.
In higher difficulties it doesn’t play in 20 min range I see myself more in 1 houre range becouse it makes you think like crazy for every dice placement
Have you played Warp’s edge? It’s another solo game where you fight aliens. I haven’t played it but I was just wondering which of the two games (under falling skies and warp’s edge) is better.
Under Falling Skies was my first solo game, and played it SOOO MANY times... It was my absolute favourite game and still one of the best. I tried to look for anything similar to that game and it was hard, becouse there aren't so many games of this genre. But then i found Warp's Edge... man... That game is a blast. Really... its so good in every aspect, incredible. For me Warps Edge is even better than Falling Skies , but at the end of the day i would say: GO GET BOTH. They are amazing games... And the best of all is, Falling skies is a dice placement game, while Warps Edge is a bag building, so the experience is very different in their own way. Its worth to own both. I also want to suggest u a third game: Doom Machine. Thats the CLOSEST thing to Under Falling Skies. Almost the same mechanics, dice placement against a cruel A.I. machine. Very good pocket game, you can even print it to yourself, just have to buy some yellow dice for the deck. Have fun!
A lot of these lighter weight games sound but, but I have no interest in purchasing most of them anymore. Speaking of finding reasons NOT to buy games, have existing lightweight games already downloaded on my phone that fills that niche. Zero setup, zero take down, and fits in my pocket. I'm also in the middle of a gaming purge and most of the games I getting rid of are these types of games. Games on my phone can just sit in my phone forever. edit: Also, some board games also have video game versions that I enjoy much more. For example, I originally backed One Deck Dungeon and despised it. I later downloaded it on my iPad and played through all of the content. It just works for me when the program is doing the fiddly things for me and is getting the rules 100% correct. Another category of solo games I love are things like Slay the Spire. No board game version, but it scratches that itch for me. I have 700+ hours in Slay the Spire.

I have been thinking more and more about getting into solo games lately and you make it hard to look past some xD CGE is having a good year!
CGE is on fire! They've always had good games but two solid releases at once.
Excellent review Alex. SU&SD also gave this game a really positive one too. Looks like its lots of fun and will definitely be getting it!
Yep, solid game :)

Argghh...I even know this :) I don't play that way at all, just in the rhythm of talking. Good catch!
@@BoardGameCo Yeah, I figured out that you probably play it correctly. :-)

I’m really intrigued, particularly by its short play time! Great video Alex!
This is a great review, explaining just enough about how the game works, and why you really like it - I will buy it today!
I played an early copy with gaming rules! And have to say this is a top game of the year for me
It's so solid!
I started the campaign on a medium difficulty last night. Love this game, simple but has a heap of tension.
Nice review. Sold me on it for sure
Yes! It's great.
I pre ordered my copy months ago, waiting is hell!!!!
Aw man sorry :(
Looks like a great game and getting +ve reviews. I will certainly pick this one up when it becomes available.
It's excellent :)

I never played the original to compare. But otherwise ya, they packed a lot into that box.

Finally managed to pick this up after it was sold out forever here!
How is it :)

Seeing under the ships is hard. Doable, but definitely the one thing I miss here and there.

Alex, have you tried Warp's Edge? If so, wondering which one you enjoy more.
Not yet but I hope to.
Would you choose this over Warp's Edge? Which is another fun solo bag builder space ship game.
I wonder if they’re releasing the app they built publicly, it’s actually way easier to manage dice placements as it shows you real time where ships move.
I haven't played Warp's Edge but I am interested in it.
Hi Alex, missing a rating on the old Review. Any chance you reverse go through your reviewd and pin same ratings to them in the comment?
I'll do you one better :) I have my review board being published shortly for anyone to check. This one was an easy 5 for me...absolutely adore it.
Alex, do you find yourself still reaching for this game when you're looking for a quick puzzle experience? Just curious?
Yes!

@@arcadevault7625 Cool! Thank you for the enthusiastic reply! I don’t think I’ve heard of Doom Machine so I’ll take a look at that.
sounds interesting... Maybe..
I love it :)
Does anyone know when this is actually out?
It should be releasing shortly.

Totally hear that. For me I love the tactile nature of it.
