Grate project and rust free ..wot a jem always loved the wagons back in the day ..agree 💯 pc leaving it original with the interior in good nic ..love your work mate .👍
Stumbled across this randomly. I just bought a 253 Hz 1 tonner just out of rego 8 mths ago. The time to restore & rebuild is the biggest issue...1 step at a time I suppose.Parked on the 2 poster in my 1 man Exhaust shop. Looking forward to further updates. Cheers from Qld.
Good vid mate. I've got a 350 HZ tunner that's been parked up in the back of the shed in as good condition for the last 8 years. Just can't seem to find the time with all the other projects I've got on the go.
I'm doing this for 2 reasons First there is heaps of cars out there 2 I needed motivation something I know that gets me of my ass , between work and family time gets away , 23 days left to finish her wish me luck Cheers
@@grumpysgarage4387 I'll be going through the same deal Soon enough , Need to keep these Classics on the Road , Watching you do this is bringing back Motivation , what i used to do all the time years ago ,, A Refresher Course , Loving it 🍻
Really like the way you've done this video. Some tips, done stuff, not too much yapping without action. Love the project, what are you going to do to clean your fuel tank?
I had a HZ 5 litre 4 speed wagon in the late 90's. It was in great condition and had a fully rebuilt gearbox which most of the reason I got 4k for it when I sold it. What's worse is I declined to swap for an XT GT that needed some love. Ugh if I had of known.
You now my sons always what if kept those cars I always reply gts gt whatever we used them for work and play, blessed to have experienced the old days Cheers
Was waiting to see those floorpans - last HZ wagon I had the displeasure of viewing was a ‘fred flintstone’ type version - as in, so much rust you could see the bitumen … mad bugger reckoned it made for ‘great aircon’ and drove it that way for years….
Nice car. Well done. Yeah that diff is not the original one for the car, it is a 6 cylinger Bango Diff not a V8 Suilsbury Diff. If you get on the gas you will destroy that diff center. I would find a sulisbury diff if I was you. Cheers Stew.
Booster rebuild $500 B/M/C resleave rekit $400 Caliper rebuild $500 pair Brake hoses x 3 $230 Prop vavle rebuil $ 150 Brake pipework $ 300 Im glad i work in a brake shop, and dont forget machine discs and drums , new wheel cyls and pads and shoes
I had the hq belmont wagon 202,my brother had the hz sedan with the 253 my best mate bought a 71 monaro he is the only one who has kept his till this day, this wagon is in pretty good nic from the ones ive looked at to fix up.
Cheers there are lots still around in this condition only problem is the owners won't sell or want to much I'm hoping after the videos are up It might motivate some of them to sell
Looks like a HZ It has the square instruments with round dials. The Kingswood SL badges were only on the HZ series. Probably not a HJ as they go have the long Speedo.
While im not a holden fan ,me and the rest of the family have owned dozens . Mzny bought new back in the 70's through to the 2020 ' although crap like trackers dont really count . This will be a nice colour combo id say .
Our family had one , wagon under dash Aircon, tow bar and pump up air shocks at backit was an ex company car super clean, bought it in 1987 for around 5500 bucks
I see the ac comp but looking at the fire wall that is not a factory ac unit and should have Salisbury ass end not banjo factory v8s all had Salisbury from HQ. ID plate should tell you every thing.
That's what this video is about trying to show owners just what goes into getting a bar find road ready at the lowest price Cheers good luck with the prem
Deauville Blue? I had a HX Sandman in that colour... 308 Auto, LSD, pump up rear suspension, Ivory interior, windows on the side, striping. Last seen c1982, Staff carpark, Russell St Police HQ Melb. I'd love to have it back.
Nothing really good about that, I’ve sold better hq, hz, wb, and even my hg all were loads better, this car is a pile of crap if you ask me! Plus my mates $100 hq was loads better and any early Holden to be honest is not worth more than 5000 if you ask me I will not buy it. I would never touch it, or waste my time with that piece of shit. Never would I buy an old Holden again anyway, do you wonder why no more Holden in Australia? Haha They were always cheap cars in the days compared to some fords, obviously people buying them now for bullshit prices are blindsighted or were not around at the time to know the crap value and just a shitbox cheap car they were to buy. I had a few because of lack of money and needing a shitbox runabout. Mind you I did own other marquees but I do know the Holden cars truly are just good to run into the ground. Like the hq races. That’s all not keepers or of any value truly.
Mixed messages your title says HZ but you say HJ Original HJ's had a long sweeping speedo unless GTS also early HZ did not have RTS radial tuned suspension but later ones did just going by what I can see it would be HX - very early HZ without seeing the color of the instruments

Thanks heaps for the kind words!
Just subbed, love ya work.
And you waited until 2.30pm to crack a coldie, that's dedication right there.👍
hard not to have a beer just 5 steps away lol
This is the way 🍻
Good to see your not attacking the old girl with a impact gun!
Clean hz wagon you have there
I remember doing the ball joints on the side of the road pain in the ass

I live in mildura and have a hell of alot of repo parts in stock for these cars
I reckon I'll need something for sure Cheers paul
😮chabelo vive😮😮😮😮😮😮😮😮😮😮😮😮😮😮eres tu chabelo😂
So the blue HZ or HJ wagon, what was it roughly worth before cleaning it up?
We looking at round $10 thousand?
the price was around 8k ended up getting it for 5k should be looking around 6-7k to get it on the road fingers crossed
Looks like a HZ It has the square instruments with round dials. The Kingswood SL badges were only on the HZ series. Probably not a HJ as they go have the long Speedo.
my wrong just so used to saying J
Looks like a “ Vacationer” with the two tone roof.
Yep sure is , a rare car and looked great when they were new. Also came in a brown bronze colour with cream roof.
yes it is wasn't a fan back in the day
While im not a holden fan ,me and the rest of the family have owned dozens . Mzny bought new back in the 70's through to the 2020 ' although crap like trackers dont really count . This will be a nice colour combo id say .
Cheers hope you enjoyed watching
the last one of those i brought
was a lic, running prem for the princely sum of $850 bucks
mind you it was 2002
When we were kids would always pick up cars for free get it running and you can have it
Fj torana eh hr ek
Our family had one , wagon under dash Aircon, tow bar and pump up air shocks at backit was an ex company car super clean, bought it in 1987 for around 5500 bucks
Why did you want to leave the dust and mud
I see the ac comp but looking at the fire wall that is not a factory ac unit and should have Salisbury ass end not banjo factory v8s all had Salisbury from HQ. ID plate should tell you every thing.
The A/C has me stumped but he did explain in the vid why it had the banjo.
the air was dealership fitted back in the day Diff was swapped out
Amazing, a non rusty Holden. Must be far away from the ocean.
No to ball no boating holidays I'm guessing
The vacationer
As soon as you said patina you lost me
Each to their own I guess
cut my teeth on these very easy to work on . enjoy project. have my eye on barn find ht prem just waiting for the price to come down on it
That's what this video is about trying to show owners just what goes into getting a bar find road ready at the lowest price
Cheers good luck with the prem
These days mate you want a car to be worth 100k you spend 200k
That's very true
Cheers
Being a factory v8 car should be a sailsbury diff not a banjo
The owner let his mate swap it out
That's why I didn't reco it
Cheers
That’s a HZ not a HJ but nonetheless it looks like a good basis for a project.
Haha after all the time editing the video I didn't pick it up until I uploaded the video
Then I had I'm a idiot moment
Cheers for watching

@colinl9018 lol...I sold it in 1981. I used to park in that car park afterhours for years, never challenged.

It's only worth what someone is willing to pay, you might want big bucks, but u may have to settle for less
That is true hopefully more cars move on to new owners
Cheers
I've got a HJ panel van Sandman I've had it for about 30 years no way I will get rid of it they are worth a bloody fortune especially if you got a V8
Soon these old cars will be ban with all this green energy waist time money.
That will never happen, 2 words India China
@grumpysgarage4387 all got to do is open eyes if you cant see what's coming just wait see eny wind mills solar panels?
You're talking out of your arse!
If u got money to find t restore these cars be great
Patina is just a poor excuse for not fixing the paint
And a cheap way to have vehicle running on the road and enjoy it before the next step
It was a shit car in its day its a shit car now , i don't understand why people pay good money for these shitboxes.
they were all shit cheap cars in the day
Aussie icons mate, Look after them and they out last anything.
Yea I agree but that shit car took me places all over Australia an bush bashing for $100 for years then went to the wreckers for $100😅
And that's true ,but by the time you restore it's cost a bomb and there are better late model cars for less money .
It's about the build and the love of it,not the cost .
