Those slates were for mail but all you could only get was 1-2 pieces of mail per slate. I used the one I had for notes of the day reminders for my 3 sons, husband and me. Like if one of them had baseball on tues. at 6 pm at what field, who would be taking them and etc. that would go in the slot that I put the initials by. We found this easier to stay focused on just that day as opposed to looking at a monthly board. Each kid including my husband could take the notes with them and they did not have to remember details. Of course this was 25 years before cell phones. Whoo ! that was a long answer for a to word explanation. (FOR MAIL)

I used these strips of caning to replace a seat of a chair. I suggest soaking it in water and glycerin for at least an hour, pulling out only one strand at a time. It makes the caning so supple. Because I was using it for a seat, I wrapped it as I weaved back and forth so I didn’t use glue or nails. Since it was supple, I could tie it in knots. When it dried, it shrunk which made the knot even tighter. I did this chair about 45 years ago and the seat looks just like it did when I finished it. Of course, you were attaching it to a picture frame so you needed glue. But you have so much of this, maybe you try knots for another project. Good luck!!

Great video!! The reed for baskets can be found on Amazon. Also soaking as you mentioned is a GREAT help even with little ones. Just soak in warm water for about 20-30 mins. I've made a few baskets. I've used superglue gel and wood glue but be patient with the wood glue. Normally if you weave it depending on the style you don't have to use adhesives. Great tuts on YT for basket making!! Keep up the good job!!
    Blessings,
    Erica ❤️

My Sister makes baskets and she soaks all of her reed briefly before using. She likes staples to fasten some projects, tiny nails for others and also uses superglue and wood glue depending on size of project and time she has to allow for drying of wood glue. You can bend it pretty far when soaked before it dries. You can clamp it while wet to get it to hold a specific shape.
