Someone else probably said it but the reason I'm glad they went back to Strange was because he never got an actual redemption arc he was pretty much just stuck in stasis. Then when he found a way to capture Infinity Panther he was stuck with just his grief and the knowledge of the multiverse... So here he at least got a redemption arc of sorts.

If you're wondering how Captain Carter survived while holding all the Infinity Stones in her hand, it was because Kahhori used her powers to shield the stones. You have to look very closely at 18:55 as it is rather quick, but there was faint blue shielding around the stones

I figured it was because they were different infinity stones than the ones we saw in the Infinity Saga.

Also, carter's an enhanced human to begin with, and I'm pretty sure Kahorri used Killmonger's Vibranium to reinforce the suit (These probably allowed Killmonger to wear them too)

I would also assume that it takes less energy to punch something really hard with your fist to hurt it compared to restoring half of all life in the entire universe. At least in part, scale has to matter.

Watching this reaction, I only just realized how sly The Watcher was being when he preambled Strange’s story and finished the prologue with: “Now, two legends must band together to stop a threat unlike any the multiverse has ever faced.”
Because the threat is Dr. Strange and the two legends are Captain Carter and Kahhori.

Underrated Peggy moment - she has the infinity stones and can do literally anything she wants. Just finishes the job at hand. No finding Steve, rewinding time or anything like that.
I think Kahori works because she isn't a Mary Sue at all. She actually loses every fight she's in (it's the tribe that wins the final battle, she was toast on her own) but fights anyway which is basically the textbook definition of heroism.

Dead Reckoning Pt 1 didn’t bomb at the box office. It underperformed, and likely only broke even when we factor in all the marketing, but it didn’t bomb.
Moreover, it was a critical success, had strong home sales, and pretty great buzz. Barbie and Oppenheimer were the box office darlings this year, sure (and they’re gonna get the awards nods that MI:DR1 was never competing for).
But the best thing is that anticipation for MI:DR2 is pretty high already, and DR1 didn’t lose money.
People will likely turn up in droves to see what is likely Tom’s last run as Ethan Hunt. And you can be sure Haylee Atwell will be there, too.

A couple of theories out there that I love. 1. The "Demon" was the manifestation of Strange's grief. It possessed him, and they helped separate him from it, which allowed him to make the sacrifice. 2. The Watcher brought her to the tree because Loki is putting together his own Guardians of the Multiverse.

The Demon whitin Strange is nothing more than the combination of all the mystical beings he absorbed over hundreds of years. Their individual forms manifest when Peggy hits him with the Infinity Stones and they leave Strange's body momentarily. But yes, they also became the collective manifestation of Strange's grief.

Great vid. Wanda couldn't send her back, because Wanda (and the rest of the heroes) were no longer in 1602 - once the Forerunner (Steve) returned to his correct time period, the two merged time periods undid themselves, returning back to normal and sending everyone's essence back to where they were supposed to be (except Peggy herself, as she arrived a different way), just as Peggy surmised would happen in that ep. Clarification on Kahhori - she's Mohawk, not Cherokee.

This season was awesome! I really enjoyed the treatment for Kahhori and Carter, especially with the introduction of Kahhori! It was such a good story and very well done! The whole arc was very good and a lot of fun! I don't know that "borrow" from the first season is exactly what they did... I think it is more like "built" on the first season. Of course there were many folks who complained that the stories this season focused on female characters way too much. Personally, I am of the mind that if the stories are good, what does it matter? And these were very good and very fun! My only concern is that now that Peggy is a force in the Multiverse, what challenges lay before her that she wouldn't be able to overcome? My hope is that they go in a new direction... new heroes and new challenges. New... can you imagine? What if...?

Just a minor correction. Yggdrasil (pronounced IG-drah-sill), is the tree of LIFE, not the tree of time.

    • @MadisonCarter
      @MadisonCarter 9 місяців тому +4

No, the original Yggdrasil was essentially destroyed with Ragnarok; Loki remade the time branches into its image but it's not the same Yggdrasil, so this is one is the Tree of Time as well as a new Tree of Life.

    • @AngeloBarovierSD
      @AngeloBarovierSD 9 місяців тому +2

Point of order: As we mere mortals understand it, without time, there is no life. Even the Norse creation theory touches on this (here the pre-life void is Ginnungagap), with the proto-giant being born from the drippings of a frozen river (depending on which attestation you prefer).
With no “flow” (time) there was no life in the cosmos. The beginning of the flow marked the beginning of life.
Moreover, the accepted understanding of Yggdrasil is that it is the World Tree (not the Tree of Life, which is a movie I couldn’t get through).
And, lastly, the wonderful meta aspect of Yggdrasil in the MCU is that, as the centre of existence across multiple belief systems, it is everything to all things.
It is life. It is time. It is the world itself. In it, with it, by it. The alpha and the omega. Everything at once but nothing we can describe.
So, it is and it isn’t the Tree of Life and the Tree of Time, or both or neither.
It is something we cannot comprehend and yet it is something we all understand.

Ok so this episode in terms of action was pretty damn good. The concepts were cool. Loved seeing all the variants, and different kinds of weapons. These aspects truly made it feel like the season finale to a multiversal series.
BUT my biggest issue is that they basically completely nullified Strange's redemption arc. They could've ended his story in S1 and brought in a new villain for S2. Restoring his universe at the end felt like a copout to me, that it cheapened the emotional weight of the episode the universe was lost in. I thought the lesson of that episode was when something that truly matters is lost, sometimes you can't get it back. You fail to accept that, you'll just lose more, and you won't get that back either. But now it just feels... meh.
Captain Carter felt overused this season. She's a good character and I liked her sequel episode, but I felt like that's where her story should've ended so that new characters (like Kahhori) can get more screentime to be established as new protagonists for a new season.

I felt like after season 1 ended with the Guardians of the Multiverse, the showrunners felt like they had to a similar callback this season. It wasn't bad, but it felt a little repetitive. I hope season 3 relies on more really strong standalone episodes. There are so many stories to tell!

There wasn't really any redemption arc. He destroyed his own universe and sometime later the Watcher came to ask for his help. He did provide that help but we didn't see any kind of character development from him and then the Watcher naively entrusted him with watching over the frozen Ultron vs Killmonger battle. It's entirely in-character for him to discover that the frozen combatants could be used as a power source and work out a way to use it to regenerate his original universe only to then realise it wasn't enough power and go looking for more.

I’ve honestly always despised the notion of happily ever after, and thus cannot accept the notion of a followup story “undoing” or “nullifying” a redemption arc.
For that (nullification) to be true, it requires one to accept the happily ever after notion. And, it also suggests we scorn tragic stories.
What I love about the MCU’s various Doctor Strange projects is that they do explore the very Greek tragedy of heroes who overcome great perils and win the day, only to lose tomorrow’s battle or become the villain.
It is a reflection of life.
In many ways, it’s anti-Disney** because Disney built its model on taking grimmer fairy tales, sanitizing them, and leaning into happily ever afters.
But, in the old days, folklore and myth were more reflections of real life than they were escapist fantasies.
(Also, remember that Strange went full Ellen Ripley version 37 in the end, embracing his own dark progeny as they plunged to their demise. So, in the end, Strange still redeemed himself.)
      ___
** Which is not to say I’m anti-Disney. I’m just pointing out the irony which this Disney subsidiary has created.

Captain Carter is the goat incarnation of any version of Cap and this is coming from a Steve Rogers stan. The live action Agent Carter series was amazing and I don't know how many people know about it. A live action Captain Carter would be almost too dope for me to handle. It's not a plosive t, though, like in "tube". Instead, it's more of a voiced alveolar tap like the Japanese r or like the middle consonant in the North American pronunciation of "better"

I'm not one in favor of a redemption arc (even a sacrificial redemption arc) for Strange Supreme. Some people deserve an eternity with the results of their evil acts, and destroying a universe for selfish purpose is an evil act that deserves no redemption arc. It's a lesson.
But I'll chime in with the others that you ought to react to Agent Carter, if you haven't already seen it.
