Not everybody has the opportunity to see what you get to see on your property and the fact that you voluntarily want to give back like you do shows your love for the environment for life and nature as well. I've only seen a flying squirrel ONCE. I was camping with the neighbors when I was 10 years old. It was really cool. Not long after I saw that squirrel, we were all fast asleep in the tent. All of a sudden my neighbor started hollering for us to get out of the tent!!! NOW. It was like 3am. We all jumped out grabbing our stuff like we were told. The tent was about to slide into the lake because of storm and WHERE it was put up. I'm glad I have that squirrel to remember because that was a horrible night as a 10 yr old. LOL You're a blessed soul, Boss. Thanks for these feel good moments you give us in this crazy world. Love from West TN.

You are watching over enjoying what our Heavenly Father created for our enjoyment yet few people take the time to enjoy. You are being rewarded by these special surprises. Animals can hear, smell, and long distance so if they approach you or come close to you they apparently don’t fear you. They know you are there long before you know they are near. I have spent my life walking, sleeping in the woods over night. I have come across bear, fox, chayotes, Never been bothered , they do their thing I do mine. They just go of in the woods I keep on walking.

As I watched the video, I began to wonder if Lori might come prancing thru the meadow barefoot, wearing a flowing white gown, a crown of bright flowers, with a sash of woven fern fronds... Is she Mother Nature? Does she sing?
Seriously, a grinning Moose, a Luna Moth and a happy little Flying Squirrel has me wondering. If I ever see you playing pinocle with a large hairy quite man named Harry, who grunts a lot, I'll know for sure.
And one other thing... a Raven is an amazing creature in own right. Cloaked in black, a wise cleaver bird, truly one of my favorites. Right up there with a Sandhill Crane, a Wood Duck, and a Loon.
    Thanks again Bossman!

I had your experience with the flying squirrel a few years back. I was cutting wood and saw a squirrel flying from tree to tree very agitated. We loaded up the wood and went home. The next day we went to stack the wood and found in one piece of wood a nest of baby squirrels . By God's grace not one had been injured. I drove back to the spot and put the piece of wood in a tree crotch, the mother came back and retrieved them.

A walk in the woods is one of the most relaxing things in the world. I used to sit down and lean against a tree and listen and watch the wildlife. Back then we had no tv but we had the gifts from our Lord to enjoy firsthand. Its amazing how quickly a silent forest turns into a symphony. Fishing was the same way. I can still see my favorite spots for taking a break from the memories of days gone by. Thanks for sharing your memories.

What a great idea! Regardless of who or what decides that your nesting boxes will make the perfect home, I hope you share them with us. If you have some flat thin boards you could even make a Bat house or two and if they like them they will gladly help keep your little area of heaven bug free. When my children were small all the neighborhood kids wanted to play in my yard after supper because we had a colony of brown bats in our bat house and none of the kids would get mosquito bites here. The bats would zoom over their heads gorging on the mosquitoes that were attracted to them. They were also fun to watch zooming around.

I’ve been blessed to have flying squirrels in and around my house here in Tidewater Virginia. The first encounter happened when we went to examine an old walnut that had toppled in a storm. As we approached the fallen tree, two flying squirrels popped out. I don’t know who was more surprised! The second time a flying squirrel entered our house via the chimney and scared us in the TV room. It took several minutes, 2 Standard poodles & 3 humans to convince that squirrel to slip under the front door and escape. 😂

Animals definitely can sense a kind soul. My wife tells me all the time that I amaze her all the time by how I make friends with woodland creatures so easily and so often. It's just something I've always done. I sit quietly in the woods enjoying whatever is going on, sooner or later some animal comes alone and watches me, watching them. I think their curiosity of me gets the better of them and the come in closer and closer, til their sitting with me or on me. It truly is very gratifying. You're a good steward of the land. I tip my hat to you, sir. Can't wait to see the trailcam footage of the squirrels enjoying a new condo. I'm rootin fer ya.

A raven! A rose breasted grossbeak! A flying squirrel! You are natures animal whisperer.
I had an experience with a flying squirrel. Many years ago my husband, young son and I were standing in our patio door looking out at the birds it wasn’t dark out yet, but there were late straggler birds at the feeder. I saw something on the ground hopping around. I mention this action and no sooner got it out of my mouth and this critter hopped across the small grass patch, onto the patio and on to deck and came directly up to the glass door. It was within inches on the other side of the glass looking at the 3 of us, cocking its head back and forth giving us direct eye contact. It looked like a squirrel with big flappy armpit sides and large round eyes. My husband and I looked at each other in disbelief. I explained to our son that it was a flying squirrel. And with that it ran away. It was quite a blessed experience I will never forget. 🐿️
Thanks for your videos. I never tire of the Frankie and the boss song.

JC you do have a gift. When I was between 6-9 years old, I'd see flying squirrels at dusk gliding between trees across the field from my house. It was the only time I ever saw them and I'm now a bit older than you are. This was in Beverly, MA ( near to Salem,MA) back in the early 60's.
I've always loved seeing birds and other wildlife. I really got into knowing birds because of my son when he was a toddler. He became bird crazy and as a Mom I had to learn to identify them. We had bird feeders for years. I kept a list of the types of birds that used it on the firidge.
One year I hung up a new bird house and a male wren sang his heart out for a mate. When he was unsuccessful, I took the bird house down to find it was full of little sticks right up to the opening. He did the same thing the following year with sadly, the same results.
Next I hung that same bird house on a line and Tree Swallows took up residence. They would sit on the line and my now 5 year old son would go talk to them and they'd talk back.
We had a large open front bird feeder and the squirrels would come. One squirrel would take part of a peanut butter sandwich out of our hands. My kids named her Mama Peanuts.
There is not much better than seeing, appreciating and enjoying the wild life around us.

Nothing better than living in the woods away from all the craziness of the city or even small towns.
    We sure enjoy doing it.
    One with natural.
Great video JC and I haven’t seen flying squirrels since I was a young boy.
    Thanks Boss. 🙏🏻

House wrens! My absolutely favourite bird - I love how big their music/call is relative to the tiny size of their bird. I miss having them around since moving out of their territory. They always make me smile when they call.

Great use of the hollow tree and giving back to nature. I had a flying squirrel hide away in my warm boot at our family cabin in PA when I was a boy, it was the wildest thing! I made a similar bird house last fall but haven't seen anything use it yet, hoping something uses it this Spring.

Love that you’re giving back to the critters that have given you so much joy. I’ve had bird feeders for more years than I can remember, but have never had nesting boxes. With so many of the forested areas being chopped down daily in my area, I think that’s something I need to do. My husbanded passed in February so he can’t build them for me, so I need to figure out how to do it for myself. It would be a nice project to keep my mind busy so I don’t spend the day grieving.

No vacancy Love is in the air and the birds have moved in
Blue birds fly in from South America to have their babies
In my yard .Happy to have them return every year .
Flying squirrels are not so nocturnal in the south
And woodpeckers eat daily at the feeders .
But Orioles are super rare down here .
Spring is here and every thing that can bloom is .
The pollen is heavy and covers the sky in a yellowish green haze .
Clouds of Sneezy and wheezy pollen covers everything.
And no place I'd rather be .🐦
Green house tan line's are closer and closer !

I had to watch this video 3 times. I could not believe the birds landing on you, even with no food in your hands. Then the Raven !! What ?? No way, Yes way.. I think it must take lots of patience,,. You surely have been granted a Gift. I am SOOO Happy for you. I go to my sister's Grave down the street. It's not only got woods around it, it's my old childhood playground. We grew up less than 150 yards from 1 of 3 Cemeteries that surrounded 3 sides of our land.. I've had deer walk by my chair I'm sitting in next to Joyce's Stone , Red Fox, all kinds birds , plenty of rabbits etc. But birds haven't sat on my hand yet . I'm setting a goal to make it happen this Summer. We even have Pink Lady Slippers, a kind of beautiful wild growing plant/flower that always was protected, you couldn't ever pick it or destroy it. I hope the law is same now. I wouldn't want anyone destroying it. It's in Byfield Massachusetts USA. Though, honest to God, I've Also seen some other types of things there, things that Aren't supposed to be real. I won't say anything else about it, I Know I'm safe , as they were there when we were kids, back in the 60s. Still there, though some are different, very different..
God Bless you & the Mrs & kids ( dog lol ) ..
Again TY for the Amazing Footage.

Thank you Jim. I always enjoy your comments. The bird encounters that I've shared here are the ones I've caught on camera. If I carried a camera 24/7 there would be so many more. To be honest, if I thought of this as a freak occurrence then I bet this would all come to a stop. I'll see it as a gift and roll with that. All the best :-) :-)
