As a.combat vet with PTSD my lap harp chills me out so.much. They should be mandatory for any vet dealing with PTSD. As well as a dog. Still love my dog the most.
Thank you so much for this. I just got one of these at a yard sale. From your video, I now understand I need to get more, so I can have one with each different tuning.
Thank you this was very helpful. I just bought a second lap harp at a thrift store and tuned them both to major pentatonic the and my daughters were jamming with them and it sounded so fun
Thank you so much Molly. I got one of these to incorporate into my recording setup. I’ve been making up my own tunings but was looking for the standard. Now I know thanks to you. Subbed
@@MusicalMollyKhan Hi Molly. I'm Brazilian, 73 years old, luthier for 10 years, and I was interested in learning some things from these instruments. But, I have no reference about it. How can I get a plant, for example? I don't speak English and I ask GOOGLE for help. Best Regards;
Hi Molly. Love your videos, they're really helpful. I'm thinking about getting a zither that's tuned to G. Any chance you could do a video on how to retune that to a pentatonic scale. I'm not very musical at all, so I need all the help I can get. Thanks. x
I have a plucked psaltery like that. They're nice little instruments. I'd love to see more music written for them and more information on playing them.
I'm having huge trouble finding a tuning key for my Cimbala, Nepenenoyka, Psaltery. A lot of the time the dimensions of the key hole size is not given. Do you know where I could get the correct tuning key please?
Hi. I am 74 and am driven to play music. My bad hands won't let me do piano. watching your videos, I have become entranced with tongue drums, bowed psalterys, and even the ocarina. Playing songs would be nice but I am really looking for an instrument that I can improvise on and play relaxing, meditative music. Can you please suggest an instrument I should start with that would be easy and meet my needs. And where could I purchase quality product. Thanks for your help. I love your videos and your sweet, light- hearted demeanor.
My little gusli (the Russian name) is exactly like this one, except it is tuned to G major, with the strings beginning and ending on G. G is great for Irish harp music. It is believed Carolan composed in G.
Hi Molly, thanks for your video. I bought a zither. Could you cover the different tuning for a zither? Mine is in g but I would like to tune it in c and I have no clue how to do it. Thanks in advance, greetings from Marseille
I can definitely do a video like that in the future! For now, tuning to the key of C is as easy as tuning your F#s to Fs instead :) This won't work for song sheets though unfortunately.
I would like to know, if I m tuning the zither in the key of G, what is the pitch of the note? With a keyboard would be a G 3? And what about the key of C? I just need to know the first note and then I can tune it, thank you have a nice day
Can you share some ideas on how to tune two different laptops to play at the same time so maybe two different keys that I can alternate between while playing both simultaneously
Very cool. I just found this exact harp at my local thrift shop and it’s very out of tune. What are the strings to buy to replace the very old and crusty original strings? 😅
I case you still need strings, I spotted an original replacement set on ebay. 2 sizes cover all the strings, the smallest 6 strings were .40mm (about .016 inch) and the other 9 larger strings were .45mm (about .018 inch).
Thank you for this video Molly ! I tried to tune my lap harp, i bought a Derwent after one of your review, i have the discovery 16, I tried to tune it in glissando pentatonic but I don't understand anything 😭😭😭. Would you help me out pleaaaaase? It's normally tuned in the key of C, and the lowest note is a C4. Now everytime I play an instrument, i'm telling my self what would Molly Khan do 😅!

I have a 16-string lyre harp, which I would like to change to a pentatonic tuning. It starts with a G3 on the far left. I am not sure what notes I would need to change it. Thanks in advance for any help!

Zithers are a name for a sort of flatboard, played on the lap or table sort of instruments. Lyres are typically meant to be played upright with hands on either side - I think that's the main distinction 😊

Wonderful video. Are that 2-octave strings? I was trying to Glissando tuning, & broke one string. Can you pls advice
? Thanks in advance
Hi ☺️ I bought an identical looking zither after watching this video but it turns out it's 13 string whereas yours is 15. Advice? 🥺

No problem! Your best bet is to double notes. So I would tune it to (starting on G3): G, A, A, C, D, E, E, G, A, A, C, D, E, E, G, A 😊

I can tune it to where there is nothing that can be done to get it right again!
Apparently it's tuned to a key of C. It said tuned from G to G. I don't understand these things... 🤪x
