So much so that people think that the Killer Mike verse on Walking in the Snow is about George Floyd, when actually they recorded it in November and it's about Eric Garner. Sad how shit doesn't change
Sure is. Same with track 3, legend has it on RTJ3 - Out of sight on RTJ4! Both banging , up beat tracks ! Really stand out despite having minimal lyrical content through the chorus’s. kinda lazy but slick with it. They make the verses so sick to compensate anyway 😷
RTJ has a very interesting usage of album structure. If you look at each one of the last three records, you can tell they follow a similar pattern, only in their own way, cause they have their own separate personalities. The first three to four tracks get you jumping all over the place, pumped up, cranking up. The second third of the album represents heavier political and social issues: they can get quite dark, eerie (Early-Thieves!/2100-Walking in the Snow), time for another banger, but equally lyrically-charged (Lie, Cheat, Steal; even though this one's actually right before Early-Panther-Ju$t), and a couple of tracks later comes the third leg of the album, which is more emotional somehow; they need to give it a closure and always do so in the best doomsday hip hop fashion they can. By the time each album ends we're left with this feeling of reaffirmation and cleansing that is impossible to look away from.
As an RTJ fanatic...I can proudly say these guys are 4 for 4. All hits, no misses. They are approaching Outkasts levels of iconic duos no cap. DEHH touched on everything I thought was interesting and worth talking about on the album. But 2chainz saying "I'll buy a hotdog stand if I'm tryna be frank" takes it for me haha. But Zach, Pharrell, Mavis, Josh, Gangsta Boo, eXquire, Cutty Ranks, the guy who announces the yankee and the brave thing...All did their thing and contributed to an incredible album I'm pretty confident this is gonna be my Album of the Year 2020.
OutKast are my favourite duo, RTJ are my 2nd, however, they are no where near as iconic. I’m not saying they need a hit or two to go mainstream to be the greatest duo of all time, but they do if they are to be considered iconic
No one thought A Few Words for the Firing Squad is a standout? That's such a monumental track, for me that's the epitome of how you end an album. The production was so intense and layered. It starts out dark, then the horns build up the atmosphere more, El-P's first verse is nicely personal and poignant, and the constant echos throughout the track add more flavor to it. Mike ended it nicely too. He has some lines. And it does that thing I love where you think a track ends, but it's a fakeout and comes back with a thunderous sound. Easily my favorite on the album.
Did anyone catch how El-P said, "That is not snow, it is ash, and you gotta know /The past got a wrath, it's a lover gone mad And then the next song is actually "walking in the snow"
This album is perfect. Its acceptable like hard narcotics, cause one hit and you're locked. Older rap fans will have you shaking and stirred from the techniques, styles and familiarity. Long time fans will see the progress, merging flawlessly and chemistry that cant be copied. RTJ1 -RTJ3 is the formation of the Run the Jewels. RTJ4 is their introduction.
The Heathen i went back and 2 has alot of bangers and solidified them But this album is unique, and the times could have not been more perfect 2 is more of a compilation Its like Kendricks good kid vs 2pimp debate Gkmc has more bangers 2pimp has stronger cohesion and further reach, with its pro-black revolutionary tone
@@zaka3630 His beats for RTJ just keep getting harder, and he's definitely picked up some of that southern rap influence in his production since he started producing for Mike w RAP Music. Even when RTJ2 came out it was still hard to imagine El-P making beats for Gangsta Boo or TI bc of how spacey & industrial his solo stuff had tended to be, but w RTJ he's really taken on this responsibility to make HIPHOP BEATS, just straight up universal bangers that anyone could rap over, and he's done it WITHOUT losing that signature layered experimental feel. It's amazing, these dudes are in their 40s and theyre still redefining themselves as vital artists of the current generation.
This album is damn near perfect in my eyes. Killer Mike and El-P have step up their already immaculate game. RTJ is one of the best duos in Hip-Hop, 4 classic albums. And still going strong.
As I’ve mentioned before I’m probably a bigger EL-P Stan then Myke. This is my favorite RTJ record and it’s because of EL-P. I think finally he decided to give “himself” credit, if that makes sense. On RTJ I, II, and III, EL-P was handing the torch to Killer Mike on some “this is my brother, he is dope, listen” but on this one I feel EL took leaps forward and finally finally gave himself some credit, and was like “yo it’s my time, “my name is El-P I produce and I rap to”. I love this album!
For those who aren’t in the know, El-P’s debut solo album Fantastic Damage is on all streaming platforms..for those who want to hear just how much of a genius he is before RTJ. You’re welcome.
Lol @ the love for El-P’s rapping ability. And they brung up Cancer 4 Cure. I remember seeing El-P perform that album live. Bananas. Just like this RTJ4 album.
I think they meant it to be that way. I love how the put the intro at the end cuz they KNEW you were gonna replay it and it ties in perfect with the ACTUAL intro. These 2 are genius! Plain and simple! 👌🏼🔥
Between RTJ3 and 4 I got really into Aesop Rock, and I was shocked how similar El-P's rapping is to Aesop's. They are distinct, don't get me wrong, but god I want them to work again together so badly. Current day Aesop rapping over current day El-P production would be insane (or just an Aesop feature on an RTJ song).
El-P: Funcrusher Plus, Cold Vein, Fantastic Damage, I'll Sleep when you're dead, Cancer 4 Cure, RTJ 1, 2, 3, 4. NINE incredible albums with different styles of production and rapping. Absolute genius.
2020 been a terrible year for the world...But 2020 been a blessing for the ears. RTJ4, all the Griselda projects, and Alfredo all so amazing. This music is the stuff that keeps hope alive fr

😅😅😅Y’all hurried up and did this joint. This album is really getting better and better, El-P really knows how to bring out the best of Killer Kill. Mr Render never sound so good, Dungeon Family never brought this out of Mike. El-P actually embracing being more of an MC on here. CLASSIC PERIOD! Favorite Songs: “Oh La La”, “holy calmafck”, “walking in the snow”, “ju$t” and “neva look back”.

I would have thought Myke was a Josh Homme fan, but he didn't say a word on pull the pin, I think that's an awesome track that is reminiscent of Massive Attack in their early days.
I think the beat on a few words for the firing squad sounds the most like something that could be on an el p album. Reminds me of some of the cancer 4 cure production
I feel like some people were hesitant to say 3 was the best yet but I have no doubt 4 is great. I think it's pretty accessible and the features almost weren't expected. Still worked altogether.
Some time has passed, so fuck it, this is my favorite RTJ album, like at the beggining i was "nah its just the hype" but no, ive been playing this nonstop and its still amazing.
I gotta confess, I haven's listened to this project yet, and I realized it's because I was waiting for y'all to reassure me, because I was scared of disappointment like Myke was. Gonna go binge this shit right now
This album is a masterpiece and I don't like to throw that word around much but this is seriously an instant classic album, honestly the best album I've heard in fucking years man, this shit was so good it was mind boggling, the production is some of the best I've ever heard it was next level, the lyrics were great, they were rapping about a lot of real shit but they still had the fun party songs, no album will come close to this one this year, easily their best work I'd rate it a 10/10 and that's an extremely rare score for me to give an album
They do alot of homage stuff in the album. I like when they used the Broken Language flow on Holy Clamafuck. i got fuzzy cause i love Broken Language by Smoothe da Hustla and Trigga da Gambler, that song is an alltime top 30 song
I would love to see a discussion over Outkast first 4 albums vs RTJ first 4 albums. Just have them battle out in album order. It would be interesting to see y’all have a discussion on them and vote on each album.
They age like fine wine, truly remarkable, so important to the fucking culture, much love to Killer Mike and EL-P, give them they 🌹 NOW, before it’s too late.
Myke needs to have all the other guys listen to old EL-P. I feel like you appreciate RTJ more fully with knowing about his back pack stuff. The thing that comes across to me is the attitude EL had when he was "independent as fuck" is the self realized mentality echoed by Killer Mike's bars. I love y'alls enthusiasm for hip hop. Keep it up
After listening to this album, in this era especially, I would hope the new wave of rappers start actually rapping again....this whole trend of singy song rap music really needs to stop because this is Rodney King 1992 all over again....I refuse to listen to rappers who don’t have a message in their music anymore. Fun mindless music has its place, but this is not the time to release bullshit into the world. Rappers step your fuckin game up.
I love that, back in the first RTJ interview with DEHH, Mike said that he wanted to aim for the top. He wanted to be in the discussion of the best hip hop duos. 7 years later with releasing RTJ4, people (including myself) are saying RTJ is the best rap duo in the current scene of hip hop. Ya got your wish Mike 🤘
I love this albums so much!!! And on the realest talk like a week before the album came out when they released the track list on Instagram I know from the title alone "Walking In The Snow" would be my favorite track and I was so right!!! It was the perfect song on a perfect album!!! On Call Tick-It-Tron, Mike said at the Apocalypse play The Encore I feel like that line encapsulates this album so much
i think el p’s 1st verse on pulling the pin is my favourite verse on this whole thing...i had to like sit down and relisten to it after the first playthrough i took it as what were up against is so deep and insidious... el p’s line “you will not travel towards the light if they’re in charge of your departure” is so so impactful...
I’m never usin the term “dead presidents” again, “slave masters posin on your dollar” has made that seem so tame to me
P. II. Yeah I noticed that. Did Freddie borrow it from somewhere else? I dunno, like a stand up comic, rapper, tv show or something?
RTJ are one of the best duos in music hands down.
At this point they’re getting close to OutKast and that’s not a cap... hahah

It was first listen for me on that Doc flip, my ears perked up quick... But that 2chainz line I did not catch till y'all said it.
Some time has passed, so fuck it, this is my favorite RTJ album, like at the beggining i was "nah its just the hype" but no, ive been playing this nonstop and its still amazing.
one of your best reviews ever
I gotta confess, I haven's listened to this project yet, and I realized it's because I was waiting for y'all to reassure me, because I was scared of disappointment like Myke was. Gonna go binge this shit right now
very well put points myke couldnt agree more
Interesting the Public Enemy was referenced in the review because El-P's production reminds me of the Bomb Squad sound
yes sir! RTJ sound in a nutshell is Bomb Squad's sound for Ice Cube AmeriKKKa's Most Wanted.
4:33 a genuine 😃 from Myke
........ 🎶 Oh Happy Day 🎶 ........
Glad to see y'all guys appreciating this piece of work of art.
They do alot of homage stuff in the album. I like when they used the Broken Language flow on Holy Clamafuck. i got fuzzy cause i love Broken Language by Smoothe da Hustla and Trigga da Gambler, that song is an alltime top 30 song
They do it every album, its one of my fav things to do when they projects come out is homage hunting
Both of em are hip hop nerds
I would love to see a discussion over Outkast first 4 albums vs RTJ first 4 albums. Just have them battle out in album order. It would be interesting to see y’all have a discussion on them and vote on each album.
Fully expecting Ken to give the Rick Ross grunt as affirmation for whatevers been said xD
Keep it up
That Deadendgaming logo design is fire
After listening to this album, in this era especially, I would hope the new wave of rappers start actually rapping again....this whole trend of singy song rap music really needs to stop because this is Rodney King 1992 all over again....I refuse to listen to rappers who don’t have a message in their music anymore. Fun mindless music has its place, but this is not the time to release bullshit into the world. Rappers step your fuckin game up.
RTJ4 albums review from Dead End HipHop no way?? Whoa.
I luv the fact that the end of the album is actually playin right into the intro of the album. It's so dope. You can play it back to back to back!
I have to blast this album this everyday to help me cope. It’s therapy
DEHH you guys did a fantastic job on this review. You guys are absolutely spot on. I hope RTJ watches this at some point. Good looking out.
welcome back to the RTJ/Griselda channel
On Call Tick-It-Tron, Mike said at the Apocalypse play The Encore I feel like that line encapsulates this album so much
i think el p’s 1st verse on pulling the pin is my favourite verse on this whole thing...i had to like sit down and relisten to it after the first playthrough
i took it as what were up against is so deep and insidious...
el p’s line “you will not travel towards the light if they’re in charge of your departure” is so so impactful...
"Pulling The Pin" has the HARDEST and MOST FIRE beat ever made, change my mind
