- Far Cry New Dawn is a very mixed game for many Far Cry games. In my Far Cry Ranking video last year I ranked it dead last in the series. However, I don't hate Far Cry New Dawn and I go over the main things I like about it in this video.

For me New Dawn is one of my favorite Far Cry games mainly because my first Far Cry game was 5 and New Dawn was a really good sequel to it story-wise. Also a huge fan of the aesthetics, costume design for the highwaymen, the music, and the way we get to see how parts of Hope County have changed from the first game. My main gripe with the game is a lack of weapon customization as that was one of my favorite parts of Far Cry 5 and now Far Cry 6. I have gone back and played bits of Far Cry 3 and 4, and I still think that Far Cry 5 and New Dawn are at the top of my list, especially when it comes to gameplay. My favorite from a writing standpoint is probably 6 with dialogue that got consistent laughs out of me, as well as nailing those serious moments as well (and ofc Giancarlo Esposito's performance). So I'd say Far Cry 5, New Dawn, and 6 are constantly cycling positions in my top 3.

Farcry newdawns story lacked being to short and the villains weren’t thst good the story was pretty simple which I think they could have made it better

I would love to see a video that covers the over-arching themes of the Far Cry games, since the story and protagonist usually changes. Not just stuff like resisting authority, how power corrupts, and choosing the lesser of two (or more) evils, but also how they represent things like the illusion of choice, violence as a solution, and drugs as a means of escape... and of course, HURK
I much prefer the Expedition missions in New Dawn versus the co-op missions in FC6. I don’t do multiplayer and without a partner the FC6 missions are just insanity. There also isn’t much of an in-game reason to do them, whereas in New Dawn you needed to do them if you wanted enough materials to craft higher level weapons.
I'm a huge fan of both FC5/ND. Now replaying them for the third time! 😅

Thanks for pointing out how good far cry 5s soundtrack is. I still listen to it daily, hammock was a great choice and all their renditions of the choir and country music in the games are fantastic as well as the originals themselves. Far cry 5 has the best soundtrack of all the far cry games no contest

The story was 5 was intense just wish my character talk other then that I had fun with it but the character can talk it would of been way better but aye what can I do I got it for free with the game pass now I’m on the ps5 debating if I should buy it
Love New Dawn. Its double jump is superior to the one in Far Cry 6. I love it when I overtook an outpost, the game shows your player posing. Why have a character customization when you almost never see the character. They only time you see your character in Far Cry 5 is on a wanted poster. Also in New Dawn you see your character when you go in settings. You see him/her take a step forward. I only wish you could chose shoes independent too. And had way more variety. And I with we could customize our weapons.
If I would make a ranking Far Cry 1 would be least. Than Far Cry Primal. 7:07

I've played every FC games since FC3 up till New Dawn, I can easily say New Dawn is my favorite gameplay wise, the size is just about right for me without being too big and overwhelmed. I personally don't like how perk system works in FC5, New Dawn is kinda same but less grindy ridiculous challenges, plus the potential infinite perks you can get and certain skill upgrades. Another popular complain about New Dawn is lacking weapon customization, I personally kinda prefer this way, the weapon customization from previous FC games never feels much to me, even pointless sometimes, it's like buying DLC after you buy the base games! Previous games, if I got "the best weapons", cash becomes useless at one point, I mean why would I spend cash on weaker weapons and unlock different skins just for the sake of collection? This time around in New Dawn, after I unlock "the best weapons" with resources, I can further upgrade them as many times as I want. I really enjoy it when games introduce the idea of infinite upgrades.
The I like the perks in far cry 5 it’s easy to get them if you do the side quest where u find loots an gun they have perk magazine just laying there
this game is so old, and i pray to God that ppl still play it, bcuz it was so fun, but no of course, i didn't enjoy killing the bandits: the highwaymen bcuz it makes me a murderer i wish they were friendly instead
I really liked the saw launcher in new dawn and although the twins were kind of annoying I felt the scene where Mickey was upset over loud death was some good voice acting

It's nice how you have to figure out who the judge is for yourself; blew me away when I realized I was fighting alongside myself from far cry 5.
Something it did get right was keeping the old weapons from far cry 5. Getting my old setup back was so nice because I didn’t have to learn a new play style. It was like far cry 5 extra level, but like how the vanahiem crater in god of war ragnarok is just an extra level
For what it's worth, this was the first Far Cry game I ever played, and it's lead me to play several others, and probably eventually, all of them. I wouldn't recommend that order though. I had to do a replay after FC5, to really get some of it.
I have mixed feelings for the theme of the world, on one hand I do like 'Brave New World' feeling to it, but at times I do feel that it is a bit too bright and I prefer FC5's more natural feeling. As of the 'spec ops' mission, I would say it made its return in FC6 where Dani takes missions from Lola to steal PG240, and you can see other elements, such as 'Resolver' from ND in FC6 as well
I don’t know why but I enjoyed New Dawn more than 5. I enjoyed building up my home base and loved the look of the world. Maybe because I’m from America and have been to Montana, but 5 just didn’t vibe with me. I enjoy my Far Cry’s to be in exotic foreign lands and have unique wild animals compared to the US. Far Cry 5 just felt like my hometown lol. I have also thought of those outside the US getting a loose interpretation of what Montana is like, like how I felt playing the inspired worlds of Far Cry 2-6. Which is a cool perspective to others who aren’t from the US, but with it being so close to home it was just ok to me.

I like the soundtrack in New Dawn, I like only a few songs from the Highwaymen Radio like Hopsin, Gizzle and Doomtree a little bit, but what I don't like is when Ubisoft takes a lot of Die Antwoord or Nitty Scott for Far Cry, I can name 50 hip-hop artists that would have been better selections than them, I just don't like listening to mumble rappers when I play a badass shooter like Far Cry, that's just my opinion though

I would not say redoing outposts qualifies as "good replayability".
Replayability is good when you can make different choices the next time around. Whether that be Story, Playstyle, whatever. Not just doing the same stuff over again.

redoing outposts can actually be helpful because you’ll know what you need to do better the second time around. plus, it seems less stressful cuz youve already done it
Expeditions are the only thing that make this game bearable. They need to become a staple.

I enjoyed far cry 5 so I like how they made a 2nd part, I do wish they learned from their mistakes from fc5 as having a character who can talk, have their own opinions, have their own thoughts, etc.would have made the story alot more better, it's really cool that your character is silent in fc5 and then to see him as the judge in new dawn who remains silent is awesome but again they went with a silent character which imo makes the story and game a bit dull.
I always disagree with this point, I much rather prefer that I'm the character in the game and have my own opinions, it makes you feel much much much more connected to the world and the actions apart of it

I'd just like to point out that most of the new mechanics in FC6 come from ND, Nd was probably just Ubisoft testing a bunch of concepts
My main problem with far cry 5 and new dawn is that ur character don’t talk never in a million years i thought Ubisoft will go the Bethesda route which i hate other then that i enjoy the game I would of enjoy it more if my character talk in my opinion far cry 2 an 3 an 4 an 6 are the best the rest are not it gameplay wise far cry 5 an new dawn are good would of been better if my character can talk that’s why I hate Bethesda they ruined everything an start having dev have the same idea
If the Rook talked it would break the whole point of their character. The Rook is meant to be YOU the player, usually Farcry characters like Jason or Ajay can be blamed for their huge amounts of killing. In Farcry 5 they turn the tables and blame the player. If you take a moment to think you suddenly realize that no ordinary deputy goes around killing tons of people which is something even Jacob and John seed indirectly mention. In most shooter games you kill so many people and never take a moment to really question it. You kill so many people in shooter games that at some point it loses all impact whatsoever. Farcry 5 subverts these expectations with Eli's death being caused by you. Farcry 5 even humanizes the cultists which really causes an internal moral conflict in the player. Farcry 2 also does something similar to this as the protagonist is silent but only when you play as them.
If the Rook was capable of speaking and was more of their own character in the story it wouldn't fit as well with the themes of the game and Eli's death and Joseph's "It's your fault" speech would have less of an impact on the player as people would just blame the Rook and not themselves despite the fact that the were given the choice to walk away.
Farcry 6's story despite having a voiced protagonist suffers alot when it comes to immersion, What farcry 3 and 4 did right with the voiced protagonists was that your view was always from a first person perspective during cutscenes. There was a good balance that allowed you to still put yourself in the characters shoes while having them be their own character. Farcry 6 has cutscenes that show your character from outside the first person perspective and it really causes a disconnect.

Far cry 1 and 2 are the only two that are different from the rest, even if you remake 1 and 2 with FC3 gameplay style.
3 is the Philosophical one out of all installment, every game after it, went from degrades to lack any deeper meaning, no a lesson, not a saying (inaccurate or not, doesn't matter, like "war never changes") not a critics (honest or not, doesn't mater) not a deeper questions.
FC4 have the best location, but the story "so call being philosophical" about Nepal being traps under a infinite loops of internal blood bathes due to their cultures and religion (which is just bad, but very much expected of an American observation, which also proven faults) is underwhelm about a personalizes story about the main Antagonist charismatic, Nor does his personal story say anything on the FC4 story, same as in the DLC for FC6, his story, his theme? lack any coherence relation with FC4.
FC4-NewDawn-6 are what I call, over personalize worship, where the games just revoke around them, and that is just tiresome, and bad writing, however it make the game more friendly to Investor whom desire profits and not the consumer asking to many question.
The Seed family, everything is revoke around them, the entire FC5 maps are effected by them, literally for most, they affect the world, which affect the story, which affect the NPC, which affect you, they are the center. They are the Cause and End.
Compare this with FC3, it is the revert, which make its felt bigger. Instead of the Pirates or What-his-name being the Cause and End. They are merely here, being that as a part of the land, which is the Cause and End. The lands and it's culture (terrible interpretation of Oceania culture btw) are what affects the factions to do this and fought against that. The lands and it's cultures affect the factions, which affect the physical lands in their own territories, which came into contact and conflict with another factions also make their mark on the lands, and the bigger land affect on these plots of territorial lands, but these factions exist, because the Lands and it's story exist, not because the lands exist because the factions exist.

Love these videos, but I never understand what you mean when you say things like Joseph was right and might not be the bad guy and he’s just as bad as the Deputy. Between the two I’ll go with the guy that doesn’t torture and mutilate people lol
New Dawn is underrated

I just hope the next far cry game will bring back first person cutscenes. In far cry 6 the third person cutscenes were so dull and boring.

New Dawn didn't have a true open roam world. It's world was soft gated by character levels.
