The album is... insane. A journey full of surprises from start to finish. Perfume is probably one of the most "typical" songs on it, but nonetheless every second is Nightwish 100%. As a longtime fan I can say, Yesterwynde has become my number 1.
The mixing was intential. Tuomas wanted to have Floor as an integral part of the musical experience in stead of having her above the instrumentation. There are some songs in which Floor shines as usual also however. My favourite is the 12th and last song Lanternlight. The video of that one is a must see and with a hanky nearby as Floor herself could not hold the tears during recording, only 6 weeks after giving birth to her second daughter Lucy. The album is made to be listened from begin to end in one go. It can be described as a concept album revolving the theme of 'time', but they all have a different vibe. Troy came up with the name 'Yesterwynde'. and wynde is to be pronounced as wind as in winding a clock. The title song 'Yesterwynde' is the first song and this one is the fifth. The album is the continuation of the previous ones 'Endless Forms most Beautiful' and 'Human # Nature' making it an trilogy centered around science and evolution and in which Tuomas comments on various forms of human behaviour in many of the songs. Some of the 'old' Nightwish fans do not agree with the 'evolution' Nightwish has been going for, but I am full in.
Agree. Composing starts with a blank sheet of paper. Just like any design. Creative minds can fill the paper with something beautiful like this. People can like it or not. Everyone has their own taste. But something like this is certainly not easy and that it is made with love for the music.
Yeah, that would not be for me. Deep under water with 'nothing' around and the unknown below you. Scary af. // I do think Nightwish has changed over time. Don't get me wrong, they still have their own sound. It's just a more mature version now. That's how I'd describe it. But yeah, can't go wrong with Nightwish. They're like a musical hug.
“An Ocean of strange islands” and “spider silk” from the same album are waiting for your reaction ☺️

Very questionable mix on this whole album. After 1 listen… no need anymore.
