I found out about you guys while taking time off work for the birth of my daughter. She turns 5 today. Love the channel!
Not gonna lie, got a little choked up at the end, when Ed said “it’s been a pleasure these past 5 years…” it’s been a great ride, here’s to another 5 at least!
Wizard is what brought me here. Jim and Ed is why I stay. Thank you, guys, for the great content. I will be picking up some shirts from you guys because they are so awesome.
Hey guys! Awesome that you tackle so many Wizard Mags. Definitely the main thing that helped me in my comic book knowledge. Can you tackle in some future stuff Drew Hayes and Poison Elves? Anything Mike Zeck, maybe his Captain America, Secret Wars or Punisher mini? Or Jay Anacleto and Aria? Would love to see it
I wonder who won that 1,001 Comics contest? 🤔
Having intelligent analytical comics talk to listen to everyday is a gift that I’ll never take for granted. Thank you guys
I have 1 hitman issue. Bit that's only because Mc Crea drew me into it after being his chaperone in Amsterdam 😂
The Liefeld sketches in that Heroes Reborn preview look way cooler than what appeared in the printed comics - I’d love to see more of that stuff
Scott Beatty, who wrote the Spawn animated series article, would later go on to co-write Robin: Year One, Batgirl: Year One and Nightwing: Year One with Chuck Dixon.
So when do we get Jim Rugg's "Thor Grand Design"?
Happy anniversary. Thanks for the content
Speaking of Coyotes...
Haven't seen an episode in the archives on Engelhart's Coyote, either the graphic novel or the series by him & Leialoha (with a backup by Ditko). A deep dive on the old Epic lineup, and more on the 80's indie cohort (First, Eclipse, Comico), would be amazing. Terrific work fellas, keep 'em coming 👊
Five years and six months.
Please cover some of Ennis / Mcrea's Hitman series, even if it's just the trades. That book is woefully underrated. It's hilarious, violent and unforgettable. Mcrea can handle the serious material and also the out-of-this world crazy stuff that Ennis dreams up for him.
Now you can send all those Wizards to CGC to get slabbed with a Cartoonist Kayfabe pedigree, lol!
This was one of the first three Wizards I bought as a middle-school kid.
(24:31) Who here used BMG Music and got a bunch of free CDs and merch?
For me as a teenager back then...the crossovers were signs of an industry in distress...it was like Universal Monsters being in a state of decline, doing Abbott and Costello meets Frankenstein....or if Disney today tried to do a cash grab of Star Wars vs Marvel....it's a huge turn-off of kitschy and needless creatiion
Thank you guys for enduring all these issues of Wizard. It's been eye opening to how much of a mark I used to be.
What?! Amazing Heroes magazines to cover?! I'm down 100%...
1:07:00 Mad Bull 34! holy shit that's one crazy fucking OVA ah man haven't seen it in ages
Leave it to Chance is a great read - you should try it guys! It's a horror book aimed at all ages including younger readers. It's a pity there are so few issues, it has the feel of something that was being set up to run for years.
people forget how popular J Scott Campbell Gen 13 was
I think you should at least end the Wizard series when it hits the year 2000. Would love to see more Hero or Overstreet Fan magazine coverage.
yeah sorry never gonna not believe that isn't Jims letter lol. i just chose to believe that this was Jims short but fun phase of reading untold tales of spiderman, trying to be a wizard letter hack and taking lots of drugs that made him forget any of it happened 🤣
I LOVED Batman Returns!! Happy 5 year, guys
Happy 5th anniversary
Learned a lot about comic books from this channel.
You guys should do Hero Illustrated when you’re done with Wizard
Been a Kayfaber before the youtube channel. Looking forward to the next 5 years and seeing you in Charlotte every year!
Hey what ever happened to the Heroes Illustrated coverage? Haha
Got this wizard magazine when I was a kid in the 90s , it read so rated R to me at the time.
See what I wanna see is what the final final issue was like when it died.
The Koch warehouse is so stress inducing. They were blasting these huge industrial heaters in the winter in there when I went and everywhere was boxes and piles of 20+ year old comics and magazines. It’s insane there has never been a fire.
Thanos had popped up in Silver Surfer and the book was growing in popularity largely due to Ron Lim's drawing. I think there was a precedent for Infinity Gauntlet but I also think it was Marvel trying to remind the public that they had more characters besides the X-Men
Let's finish this weekend with some Kayfabe!
time for some Hero mag coverage
Isn't that Jan Duursema drawing the team picture in the Hulk casting call?
This issue really stood out to me back in the day. I loved the Liefeld/Lee Heroes Reborn sketchbook.
Congrats!!
Hi
LOVED Wizard magazine back in the day. Also loved Bart Sears art and Andy Smith also, still have Andy's artbook bought years ago, haven't looked thru it yet. When I was in the army, stationed at Ft Hood,Tx ( now it's under a different name )Wizard was sold in the Pxs ( Hood had 2 major PXs )it didn't sell well tho, but,I always bought my copy. LOL. Even when I was in Iraq, the PX exchange sold Wizard mags also ( I volunteered to go fight in Iraq with the Texas Guard on 4 deployments, also did 2 tours back-to-back )my first tour was with an infantry unit at Camp TQ ( TQ was a Marine FOB/base at this time )and we did joint missions with the marines. But,the Wizard mags sold out at TQ,sold so good I had to ask one of the female cashiers to put away a copy for me when the new mags came in. And she did,she was very nice. LOL. SEMPER-FI
✌️🥳🦸🦹🎨
congratulations!
