Every episode is more bittersweet to me than the last. We miss you, Ed. Jim, thank you for releasing these. I go through so many emotions listening to the episodes. It's cathartic but painful too. And yet I don't want them to end.

The removal of Toy stuff to fill 'Toy Fare' magazine, and Trading cards to fill 'Insight' contributes to the reduction in girth. As well as the comics market's decline in general. I was expecting an AOL CD - not a floppy! I can't believe I used Girth and Floppy in the clean sense in the same comment.. :)
OMG! When the floppy came out I was expecting a bigger ‘WTF?’ Reaction from the boyz.
Glad we got at least one last Wizard episode. I started watching CK when it was primarily a Wizard review channel, so these episodes are fun for me. Since then, the channel has completely changed how I view the art form - no exaggeration. Best to all of Ed’s family and friends. Hope to see Jim stay on here in one form or another after these videos run out.
Like the whole CK family, I am still hurting, and praying for Ed, Jim, and family. It took me all week to have the strength to listen to one of these new episodes that Jim as dropped in honor of Ed's wishes. So bittersweet. Been a fan for quite awhile. You guy's have accompanied me on many of my hours long walks with my pooch while enjoying a nice cigar.
I have found so much to ponder and laugh about through my many hours of listening.
You guys are like little bros to this 64 year old. I am spending out a cosmic hug to Ed and hoping that one day I can deliver a physical one to Jim. Be well and let's all try to be nicer to each other.
Rest in peace, Ed. It's absolutely tragic what's happened. There are no words. I just hope now he's finally found peace 💛

I will never be able to thank for everything you taught me, and for all the company you gave me. Thanks Jim for continuing to upload the videos. At least for a little while, we forget that Ed is no longer with us, and the world is a slightly better place.

I was in the 5th and 6th grade, living at AMR military base in Honolulu, Hawaii.
Every day I'd wake up before my sister to watch Sailor Moon before riding the bus to Mokulele elementary.

RIP Ed! You’re in my prayers, man. Thanks, Jim, for uploading these. Keep’em coming. I loved your point of view and opinion in comics and culture in general. It amazed me how much interesting you made those comics talks, aside the reunions you had the opportunity to do (couldnt believe in eastman + laird). I’ll surely be watching some of those videos again.
This has been a heartbreaking time, even tho I didn't know ed personally I miss him. But hearing ed and jim laughing together and having a good time talking comics brings joy to myself and all the kayfabers. Rest In Power Ed🙏.
I went to a used bookstore with my kids. Looking for comics. I pulled out a few books including Carl Barks. I thought to myself, I wonder if the guys have this one.
My four year old asked me “what’s this?” And I couldn’t see the book so I said “pull it out and see”. It was Mister Wonderful. Dan Clowes. I was a proud father. And I placed it in the buy pile.

1:09:38 Based on the books I have from VIZ from 1997 and before, there is little to no cross promotion between anime and manga.
Most of the promotion in the back of each manga comic book floppy was for other publications from VIZ, some even from Dark Horse actually. There likely wasn't any cross promotion for anime in manga until after 1998 when the TV program block Toonami (Cartoon Network) first started airing anime.
That said, when VIZ started to publish the monthly editions of Shonen Jump outside of Japan in the early 2000s, they absolutely started to promote anime related to what was being shown. That said, I do not recall many, if any promotion for manga in any video release of anime. Possibly if it was related to VIZ, but it was at best a handbill promotion, but I may just be mistaking that for the mail-in-subscriptions for Shonen Jump. It's also worth noting that VIZ didn't really license much in the way of anime. That typically was handled by companies like Funimation.
Cross promotion between manga and anime rarely happened early on.

first. RIP Ed. second. Knights of Light...well, I did that art, for my then-girlfriend's father...he was always trying to hustle something. i did it for free though he said he'd pay me "when it got published" It never got published. I've never seen this in print. seeing it here is WEIRD. and being that it's '97, my work was done in 1995 and (crappy at the time) was frankensteined into the image you see there from various drawings i did...i did not "design" the image that was used. sigh...i wish Ed knew Knights of Light was never published & wasn't a trust fund kid's attempt to break in. sigh...

RIP Ed. Its funny seeing Wizard saying Xfiles comic is too much like the show. Hollywood has done that with comic movie adaptations also. It's funny how so many don't realize if you stick to a winning product you have a built in fan base and a classic tale that has already had success. Everyone has to try to remake something that's already proven and often they don't get the return they expect. I guess it is human nature to F.., that up.

Another crushing moment when Ed talks about the passing of Akira Toriyama and how much it affected him. Augh. Love both of you guys and love these videos. Not sure how many of these we have left, but whatever the number is it's definitely not enough.
Go back and watch the Robert crumb interview they covered. He talks about his exact situation and it’s heartbreaking.

I vividly remember this issue of Wizard and also being blissfully unaware that the industry had hit rock bottom. In retrospect, thank God I never went into comics, for so many reasons. Long Live Cartoonist Kayfabe.

On the manga/VIZ tip, cannot believe I used to pay $2.95 a month for a single floppy issue of manga... the same section someone in Japan would get inside a Weekly Shonen Jump of 500+ pages for the same (or lower!) price. It was brutal being an anime and manga fan back in the 90s.
I'm so conflicted. I know Ed wanted vids to keep coming out and I havent missed a Wizard vid yet they're my favorite. But haven't watched a CK vid since the Toriyama vid. Ed said he wants to be remembered as someone who loves comics so I think it best to watch

lol. I remember thinking it was over for comics when I picked up that skinny issue of wizard.
I'm so glad that the videos haven't stopped coming, but it is really sad seeing Ed's face or hearing his voice.
I appeared in that MTV Unfiltered video that Ed references around 58:00 (the one about comics, not the one about furries). Quite a pull from the Smith Brown Jones reference (creator of said comic, John Bean Hastings, shot the video). He sent me a VHS of it and I have it digitized somewhere.
