I'm really glad Baron feels the same way about the R6 and 600's in general as me. It's fantastic to have a superbike/literbike, but sometimes its nice to retain the handling while dropping the protective blanket the high horsepower provides, and to have a bike that feels a bit more fun, not because it performs so much better, but because it's more fun to keep your competition close to you instead of just firing your bike away at 200mph when nobody else can do that.
1. I love you guys. You're amazing. 2. I bought a '17 R6 just over a month ago, and it is everything I wanted. (slip on, bits and bobs so far, but basically stock) 3. My '08 R6 was clearly way up in power (full system/ecu/etc..), but like you said, the chassis improvements with the tech are amazing. 4.... ???? 5. header/mid-pipe in the winter with a kit ecu and I'll have a new bike all over again next year :P
The reason I would get this over a 1000 is because I don't think I'd have as much fun with a literbike's power usability on public roads, and the r6 is a lighter, leaner package. So yes, even at this price, I would get it over a literbike. Still, the price is stupid high, and having to add another 2k full exhaust to unlock its actual factory potential is just mad. It's really a love/hate relationship with this bike

I just bought one. 2020 8700km used. brilliant condition. has the Akra full system with a good tune on it. Heated grips etc. Delivering tomorrow morning. Jizzmachine!
Great look at the bike gents. Quality stuff thanks. With the standard of naked bikes being so strong, 600cc supersports machines are rightly becoming best for track use alone. If you're a one bike guy I don't think they offer enough all round appeal. The R6 is still a lovely piece of kit having said that, just not a good road bike.
I had some complaints about the quality of the audio a couple of vids back. I'm so glad to say that the audio on this video is really, really good in comparison to the old ones with only a room mic in a big room. Great job, guys!

lol, not Jason, Jason's brother - Al, you're not fit enough to be Jason's doppelganger. :P I think an older model for $6k sounds like a better option, since a used one would most likely already have all the add-ons that make a 600 better. I just bought a late model 600 for half the cost of a new one and it already has a cat. delete and aftermarket slip-on, with a tune, tank grips, rear seat cowl, frame sliders and bar ends. Only 8k kms on the engine, too. New is always nicer and cooler, of course, but there's insurance premiums to think about and the fact that new bikes are often bigger targets for thieves than older ones. Food for thought.
nVr Haha, well that's part of it. Another big part is that bikes are often considered a luxury item. Most of us live in climates that aren't favorable to riding year 'round, so people default to buying a car. I will say, though, to your point, I don't only feed into the problem - at least one of the bikes I bought was new, from a dealer. I just less like my shiny new bike getting stolen than I do supporting the new bike industry. One thing more manufacturers should do is offer an extensive list of in-brand grown modifications and not charge ridiculous prices to have them installed. It would at least cut down on people favouring an older bike just because it's already modded up.

Great summary of the bike Jason I was out in Jerez with you lot on an HP4 but have now changed to the new R6. Used it first time on track yesterday at thruxton and your so right it needs more power. Looking at getting a power commander fitted and the decat link pipe before the trip to Estoril next month.

I like the way it looks. I'm not concerned with power on the street. I've ridden around on a Ninja 250, so... Slipper clutch. Nice. On the street, I can't get near the performance of a 1000. Great review.

There's not much point in the 600 class anymore. With mid-sized triples out like the Brutale, Street Triple, and Fz09 that are cheaper and more comfortable, you only have an advantage with an r6 at the track where you can use your horsepower advantage for top speed. Even then, just add some rearsets to those triples and on a track without a huge straight you'll be pulling out of corners faster than any 600. My garage is an R3, Brutale 675, and an R1.
I liked the review but i was more interested about a road review instead of a track review. The akrapovic titanium full system is damn expensive. Thanks for this anyway, keep up the good work!
I'm betting despite the reservations re the stock bike the new one will still outmatch the old models' performance round a track. We've seen these changes before and despite the slower rate of progress this is still a big leap forward.
With Triumph taking on the Moto2 contract will be interesting to know their stance on the 600 market, given they probably bought the contract to R&D for their road going engines. Also, sales of this bike (as well as the Triumph and the mighty MV) will probably define whether Honda and Kawasaki back track and actually have something hiding in the cupboard...
It sucks because I don't want or necessarily need a liter bike but like the rider aids they have. That's a lot of money for a 600 but now they have rider aids. Maybe catch one at during winter?
everyone says this bike has no power in the bottom, and that may be true in comparison to where the peak power is, BUT I came from a CBR500r and I thought that bike was pretty torquey for what it was, but once you get rolling on the R6, you can just WOT and you're fuckin gone. It's really just the initial 2 second rolling off from stop that sucks.
Why is it that the seat height is way up in the air, would it not help the aerodynamics if the rider were lower and out of the wind more or is there something i am missing

With the R6 you're basically buying something to hold a pretty set of fairings through space when considering MT10 slays the kitted R6 for less money and more comfort.
this model rode same as 2016 model and I couldn't tell the difference during test drive. plus, it was too expensive for 600. 13.7k for this was ridiculous because 2017 Busa was on sale for 12.9k. it's a shame.
wish yamaha had done more really but it's great to see a fresh 600, absolutely love them but the class is on its ass and this isn't going to change anything.

To me the whole euro compliance since it's introduction has consistently forced the cost of bikes up with all the bits being added by mandate.
