Basically, he spawns Sonic's version of the Act 2 boss somehow to skip MGZ. Since the boss has tails carry Sonic during the fight, tails is forced to tag along. They never accounted for doing it with Knuckles, since he was meant to go a completely different way
Hmm after watching this, Im not sure I would consider this a legit speedrun. Using the glitches on Metropolis and Wing Fortress to me isn't a pure speedrun... but they are a part of the game left in by the developers so... grey area.... I might have to try what you did and see what happens with my time lol. Obviously that level was later in development as we can all see from all of the prototypes... I know some people will consider it acceptable and others won't but, for me... you gotta play out the level without using any glitched areas for it to be legitimate. Its still impressive and I guess if everyone is using the same glitches than it is 'fair' but... I'd think this wouldn't go in the pure speedrun section. I've been playing this game forever since day 1 and have never used those tactics in a speedrun, it makes me think if I did I'd have a chance at being a lot closer to this number. The best one I ever got was 16:01..... and it makes me feel like if I did this, I'd at least be a lot closer to 15 minutes. I don't watch a lot of speedrun videos to know if everyone does the same thing though. I play games and barely watch them,,, I never saw the point to it, I'd rather play and find my own way of being faster than copy what other people do anyways. But then I see 'world record' and I'm like ok why not,,, then see the way this was done at it kind of disappoints me that this would be considered a legitimate pure completion of a game.
