I admire him being his own man and not relying on his fathers legacy. It must be horrible to have to constantly compared to the ghost of your father. As someone who was born in 2000, there's something about this song that reminds me so much of being a child, it just feels so noughties to me. It makes me feel nostalgic, despite the fact that I only discovered it a couple of days ago. I really enjoy it and keep finding myself returning to it.

I haven't bought a compact disc in years, but had to buy this one just because I felt I needed a tactile, material copy of an album this brilliantly composed; downloading these songs as mere files just wouldn't seem right. This is the first time I heard this song by Sean Lennon, like his brother he is talented person, but underrated. He not only inherited his father's talent but also his mother's.

It was obviously tough for Sean to find his own identity. Yet through it all, he also built on his talents as his own band musician . His own music is completely different to his fathers music era.

His father was murdered when he was very young, he's been caught in the middle with the whole family drama between his step brother and step mother, he's been through the other band members dramas, and has lived the childhood and teenagehood that not many ordinary kids and teens experience. So he really expresses that through his art. Which is very beautiful.

I always come back to this song and everyone here is like “he sounds so much like John” or “he really has John’s style down” but I don’t think his father would have ever really sung something like this, in this way, he doesn’t sound like John Lennon he sounds like Sean Lennon, this is his music, I like to imagine this is him… comparing him to his father does nothing I mean he may like it or he may hate it. But I never hear Sean and think “this sounds like his father” because he is his own musician just like Julian is his own musician. Julian can hold his own in the music world today and so can Sean! I just wish that this album was released on vinyl! Friendly Fire is one on my favorite records of all time with not a bad track on it everybody should have a copy of it on CD at least! Sean Lennon is a genius in his own right. I really enjoyed Friendly Fire a great deal. It is eerily sad, yet compelling to listen to. I can feel every song to my very core. God, this is a great tune!~
I agree that it is a very touching song. I believe a lot of the criticisms against him, in some manner, have a lot to do with the public's perception of mainly his father and also his mother. There were many who didn't think fondly of his mother and I suppose they see both her and his father in Sean. It is hard to carve out a perspective that is clear from those biases. Nevertheless I feel that this comment focused on the sincerity or raw quality of the track. I feel like he is an ok singer.. but once he finds himself, he could be something far greater. He is very bothered by the constant comparisons made between him and his late father.

Sean’s first album wasn’t very well received because he didn’t sound like his father, but put out a recording of very bossa nova themed music that showed off his guitar skills. I think this melody and probing lyrics are quite beautiful. I think he’s a very talented guy, and far from cashing in on his parents fame, I believe it’s making it hard for him be heard without anticipation, or prejudice.
