    Instead of nerfing what's cool, make the lame things cool as well. Minecarts and railways are expensive and buggy. Horses are tedious and unreliable. There's tons of ways to improve them both, don't tear down Elytra just because Mojang is lazy.

    • @natperXD
      @natperXD 2 роки тому +116

      I totally agree, giving more options for the other lamer things can also inspire creativity. There needs to be an incentive to use these other methods that make it more fun, like the railways can be better if you can build a working train for it.

      Some changes I would want though is to make them faster so that they are more useful(i know there's a way, but it requires a lot of resources like pistons), allow for making your own shell (like changing the looks for the cart), linking carts together, and ways to make a rollercoaster

    We definitely need a revamp of rails and horses. If creativity is the main theme of Minecraft, we should have a more nuanced system with rails that could be comparable to progressions like redstone. In short, we must also have a creative way to manage rails.

      Piston bolt system on nether roof trumps any creative additions to rails. It’s the only use for rails in the end game. Elytra is so fast that the self-transport functionality of rails is obsolete which leaves chest carts for mass item transport the only viable use case. And you’ll only need mass item transport after building multiple ultra-farms/you build something significantly far away from an end portal.
      AKA you’ll only need rails if you build a quad-witch hut farm, multi-sea temple farm, or if you play true vanilla/anarchy SMP’s.
      Realistically, only a fraction of players will ever reach the aforementioned end-game because you would also need a dedicated mass item storage with shulker loaders. Which ultimately means rails only exist for simple hopper-cart item pickup/drop off farms and for use by the casual player.
      Even in the early game, acquiring a saddle is part of normal and expected exploration. The horse trumps the traditional minecart user. And a bubble column outshines a rail system from a mineshaft to the surface. GG RIP rails.

    • @camerongrondzki2716
      @camerongrondzki2716 2 роки тому +14

      I think the systems are fine, bc if horses are not effective enough then we also need to rework the pig. Not every thing in a video game is meant to be the best option forever. as for rails they do have a better version, they're called piston bolts and I highly recommend looking into them. they're very common place on tech servers so you can travel long distances while afk

    I’m mixed on the elytra because it is really fun, I do also miss the massive railroad projects we used to have.
    I will say though that “if you don’t like it then don’t use it” is one of the worst arguments when it comes to game design because players can and will optimize the fun out of anything and that’s just human nature. I do think there should be an easy way to disable the elytra altogether for those who don’t want to use it though, some checkbox on world creation or something, so players can very easily remove the temptation to use it.

      and for me, i dislike the deepslate,lag,new ore gen etc, “dont like it then dont use it” so im fine with 1.16
      the exceptions are like when someone says that wood ruined the game and he dislike it but its like impossible to not use it(ik dumb but just an example)

Many people will absolutely use something even if they don’t like it as much just because it’s the more efficient option and it’s available to them and need such hard limitations imposed by the game itself.
      Even Minecraft itself already has a good example of this exact thing with the difficulty lock option.

      The easy way to disable it is to just not use it. Elytras are quite hard to get. It isnt like you can find them everywhere. So it isnt hard at all to just avoid going to end cities (or play an older version of minecraft). And if you want to go to end cities for shulker boxes, then just don't grab an Elytra. The idea that players should be able to remove items from the game, so they can resist the temptation of using it, is just pointless. If you dont like elytras. Don't use them. It isnt a terrible argument. Saying that it is because players who don't like it will be tempted to use it, is a terrible argument.

    I have a survival world that I've had for a long, long time. For the first couple of years I didn't go to the End or beat the dragon just because I didn't really care about that - I was having more fun expanding my base and building towns around the world. Eventually, of course, I went and did all of that, and got an elytra. But I felt like it was somewhat immersion-breaking. So now, I just use an elytra to help with mundane tasks that require it (e.g., building a really tall tower or searching for something in the Nether). But if I'm not doing a task that directly benefits from my using an elytra, I simply leave it in my Ender Chest.

    So the thing is.. back in the day when horses came into the picture, the game was barely stable enough to handle them.
    I remember getting an average wild horse (on a decent-for-the-time PC), and riding the high that the creator of Mo' Creatures got something officially added to vanilla.
    That quickly faded when I realized the horse could run faster than the world could generate and that I wasn't the only one having that issue, so back to the minecart I went and kept horses as pets.
    For the most part, horses seem to have been fixed, the game is much more stable, and I use them as my main transport as soon as I get a saddle.
    That said, even today, small and simple hopper-cart collectors can still have issues with regards to lag and/or too many entities in the area (partly my fault because I like all my afk stuff together for max production). But the railway system needs some sprucing up and maybe a bit more optimization if at all possible.
    Basically, I never personally use the Elytra because of the "ptsd", for lack of a better phrase, from back in the day when the game would die at the drop of a hat if you moved too fast.
    Could my PC keep up with it today? Almost certainly yes. Do I get it often enough legitimately to try it. No, not in the slightest.
    Do I hate the Elytra because of my personal experience? No, of course not. It's a wonderful idea for end-game travel, but that also doesn't stop me from being cautious about it.
    If other people want to, and are able to use it, more power to 'em! Mr. Neigh-Neigh and I will be right behind them.. eventually. :)

      If you're playing Bedrock and your "PC" is a Nintendo Switch, then no--not even when using Realms to offload chunk generation[1].
      In Java, my AMD 3400G APU also needs to be paused frequently when exploring new areas with Elytra (especially if instead of rockets I'm using Riptide III in the rain), in order to give the chunk generator a chance to catch up.[2]
      Then again, in neither scenario does the game fully "crash" any more, thanks to chunkgen being handled asynchronously by default--it just means you're flying through unloaded world for a minute.
      [1] if you ever wonder why Bedrock lags so far behind when it comes to implementing certain features, just remind yourself that it needs to be able to run on absolute potato hardware
      [2] This is pretty much the only time Minecraft will be CPU-bottlenecked for me, largely because I play with shaders.

    • @BumblebeeXrocks
      @BumblebeeXrocks Рік тому +1

      @@GSBarlev I've solely played on Java because it's the version I'm most familiar with and the native version of Minecraft, so things are naturally more stable than other versions. That said, I can't speak for Bedrock, I've never tried it.
      While your CPU might be great, you need to remember that your RAM and GPU are also responsible for your gaming experience. Shaders in general are a huge weight on all three components, so I don't use them either because I'm usually hosting for friends across the globe and need to keep things as smooth as possible for their sake.
      Another thing I've noticed is that after Microsoft bought Minecraft, the game pretty much hijacks your CPU and maxes it out on startup and for a minute or two afterwards until it "finishes" loading. I had a tech from Micro Center check it to make sure it wasn't a CPU issue (it was brand new) and even they thought it was weird that any game would do that and that Minecraft didn't do that before. Minecraft is the only game in my library that does this other than ARK, but we don't talk about ARK because they know what they did. :)

    rails definitely need an update. Something that still allows for the current redstone use, but makes it even better than rockets for long distance transport. Also, Elytra is perfectly fine... if only they reduce the stack size of rockets to 16. Increase ender pearl stack size to 64 to compensate for short distance transport. If players actually care about choice and playing "how you want" then an emphasis should be put on having multiple ways of doing things that are comparably viable. Having one OP item that blows everything out of the water and just telling players to tie their own hands and not play the game as it was intended to avoid broken mechanics really isn't a intelligent answer to the problem. Either Elytra should have nerfs or other modes of transport need massive buffs.

    • @GSBarlev

      The BetterEnd mod allows you to combine four Ender Pearls into an Ender Block (stackable to 64), which can then be crafted back to four pearls. I like that as a compromise because it limits the number you can have usable on hand while still allowing for much more compact storage.

    I’d like bigger boats or even airships, as moving large amounts of cargo distances is a pain (at least before shulkers) and watching a fleet of rowboats has always been a bit silly, but for me rails need the biggest upgrade.
    Honestly I don’t use them as making an laying tracks is rather uninteresting, and other ways of transit, water ladder, boat, horse, walking makes it seem inefficient.

    • @MGSLurmey
      @MGSLurmey Рік тому

      Rails work best in the situations they're used in real life. Trains were designed and used for repetitive cargo transport along permanent routes. If you could link cart together with something like leads or chains, then you could use them as a means of automatically transporting goods from your farms or outposts back to your primary base or sorting system.
      The biggest issue with this is that once a cart reaches the edge of the loaded chunks, it stops moving. You can't currently have even a single chest minecart transporting any goods while you're away. They need to have the ability to link carts together, and have a way to dynamically load the chunks ahead of a moving minecart, or keep those chunks loaded permanently like spawn chunks.

      It really isn't late game. Minecraft is a slow game, where each building takes quite a bit of time. So if you compare... you'd have elytra, totems, and full prot 4 diamond by the time you finish just the first or second major build.
      Unless you play minecraft completely differently by not building anything and for example just defeating bosses, and then starting a new world again, you get elytra very early on and that makes any other mode of transportation painfully inefficent in comparison (exceptions are nether ice boats, ender pearl stasis chambers, and some really weird things only scicraft can afford. Oh i guess dolpin's grace tunnels which is definetely an intended feature).
      That said between instamine, elytras, scaffolding, 100% tnt drops, i do appreciate all the new tools for survival players to just do whatever they want faster.

      i think they added the firework rocket boosting because if they didnt add a legitimate way to boost yourself, people were just gonna use the punch bows, which was really stupid. i dont think they ever foresaw the punch bow thing. i dont think they ever wanted elytras to be what they became either. but they have this rule about not removing things from the game once they've added them, so they fixed the punch bow thing with the rockets, and just let the elytra be OP, and the game be changed forever.

    I loved it. You can traverse the world in a matter that is so much better, faster and relaxing. I am glad they added the rocket feature after the fact. The power bow was painful.

    Mine cart and rail updates would be interesting. Firstly, because of what they would consist of (and the snapshots that would ensue) and then because of what the community would do with them.

    It would be cool if there was like an industrial revolution update with changes to rails, redstone, and maybe an ore that is actually useful unlike copper (with most of the update focused on uses for that ore).

    • @lasercraft32
      @lasercraft32 2 роки тому +1

      They shouldn't add a new ore because copper is useless... why would they do that when they could just make copper useful? Copper irl is used all the time in industrial things.

    I have always been a player of Vanilla but I enjoy watching mods on youtube. Arguments against the elytra as is are more focused on fast travel. Recalling the pure bliss of a player using the glider and jetpack combo and I could not ever imagine a Vanilla experience similar. Now here we are with rockets and elytra, gliding to new edges of our worlds super fast and seeing our builds from angles only obnoxiously high pillars could frame. I couldn't be happier with Minecraft today!

    It's a funny discussion to me because I can remember when sprinting came out and I thought it was a terrible design decision that made rail systems obsolete. Even now I'd rather sprinting be locked behind an enchantment or something. I always loved how rugged Minecraft terrain was and how difficult/slow it was to navigate. This made rail systems and boat systems feel like an important and useful build where as now you can sprint jump wherever you want to go. All that said, I still love the game and Mojang decided to go a different direction than I would have liked and that's ok.

      To bring this back to the Elytra, I absolutely loved the addition. I think you get it at a great time in the game's progression and it is really was a magical thing to fly for the first time in survival. Also the way you get it by crossing dangerous gaps in the void, dodging endermen and overall just making a huge trek across the end is a great finale to the walking/running part of the game.

    Part of the problem is that it’s substantially harder & more expensive to create long rail systems than it is to get elytra, even though elytra are much more powerful. They could be made much rarer, or rails could be cheaper or make idk

    Having played on vanilla SMP for years with griefing and raiding allowed, I find the Elytra, the Ender Chest and Shulker Chest to be the least fun added features. It has become way too easy to just fly out tens or hundreds of thousands of blocks from spawn and essentially play single-player on a multi-player server. Even in the off chance your base does get found, all your valuables are hidden inside Shulker Chests inside your Ender Chest, making it so unworthwhile to even attempt raiding. (inb4 the comments saying raiders suck) Elytras can also cause a lot of server lag if you multiple people flying around and loading in new chunks all the time.

    The elytra: a disgustingly overpowered item. Renders boats, minecarts and horses useless, open field combat becomes impossible when the opponent is wearing one and it destroys the little remaining challenge in the late game (mainly falling and other dumb mistakes). The elytra should have never been added but now because we have drugged these hardcore elytra simps with its poison we should at least agree on a serious and punishing nerf.
    Edit: I say a perfect nerf would be to make it nightmarishly difficult to turn and add some sort of "stalling" or difficulty in gaining altitude with it just enough so that it only becomes useful at exaggerated distance. I hate seeing people use it to travel like 50 to 100 blocks

      Why would they nerf something in a peaceful single player game ?
      Also would you nerf protection 4 because it destroys the challenge ? Would you nerf beacons cause it makes everything so easy ? Would you forbid using the chests if you are storing only one item because they are meant to store 54 ?
      Think about it this way.

    • @nicolasrus8575
      @nicolasrus8575 2 роки тому

      @@michalgabriel9647 prot 4 but you will die to fire and falling. Beacons but the wither needs to die and lots of materials are needed to power it for speed mining. Chests but the player obtains an exaggerated amount of items throughout the game so an equally powerful storage is needed. Then we have the elytra... you just sort of obtain it and the games meaning just dies. One main aspect of creative mode is flying because without it creative wouldn't be the same. The "survival" aspect of survival is lost with the elytra. You are no longer surviving, you are just in creative.

    • @michalgabriel9647
      @michalgabriel9647 2 роки тому

      @@nicolasrus8575 Well prot 4 defends you against everything so.. but you actually proven my point that the danger is somewhere else (fire~kinetic). The beacon is as easily obtained as elythra, yeah it need powering with iron where you would need a farm however elythra needs an sugar and gunpowder farm as well. I will also mention that the flying aspect is so different from creative. In creative it is for building a viewing unlike elythra where you can fly only straight ahead feeling like a free creature full of happiness. It deffinitely didnot destroy minecraft.

    • @nicolasrus8575
      @nicolasrus8575 2 роки тому

      @@michalgabriel9647 the only thing that irritates me about elytra is its unrealistic versatility. Its too maneuverable, too easy to use and too cheap to maintain in the late game. Things like prot 4 and beacons also annoy me a little because mojang adds all these advantages to the player but they never once looked to the challenge element. Minecraft in its first stages was challenging In the sense that there was no enchanting, food couldn't be stacked, etc. I guess the warden is meant to reintroduce the challenge element on a late game scale but the point is. Too many op things and no challenge so we should try remove or nerfing some of them. Elytra being the most op.

    I first played minecraft on 1.2, some 10 years ago, and I decided to pick it up again recently. I killed the ender dragon a couple years before and I opened up the old world again with the intention of exploring all the updates I'd basically ignored over the years. I got a full set of netherite gear with all the enchantments including mending, I got a nice villager system set up, I killed a couple withers and made some beacons, then I had to get a ton of iron to make the bases for the beacons, all that jazz. I was a little intimidated by the idea of exploring the end because there's just a ton of void everywhere and I didn't wanna lose my crap, but I figured what the hell and finally went around looking for elytra.
    I found a set, and it's been absolutely thrilling. There's something really special about going around my old world and seeing everything rush by under me, and all the big details I never noticed from the ground. Seeing my little village and all my little buildings from far away and the neat little shapes they form in the distance is really cool. I do feel very spoiled for speed now; walking or even running feels too slow, but I don't think I would give up my elytra wings just so I can preserve the experience of running or horseriding. Even if elytra does take away from some of the minecraft experience, I think it expanded things more than it took things away.

    I've been playing Minecraft since shortly after it went into Beta, so I've seen a lot of changed. IMO the elytra is the 3rd biggest change to the game behind 1. Beds and 2. Enchanting. Beds and Enchanting both completely altered how I played the game, with beds being self explanatory. With respect to enchanting, every time I start a new world my goal is to get an enchanting table asap and then get fortune on an iron pick before I collect any more diamonds. The power of fortune is even greater now that iron and copper are impacted too. As for the elytra, I love it! It is so much fun to fly around and see the world from a bird's eye view.
    With all that being said, I still build bridges and rail networks for a few reasons. First I just enjoy building roads across my world, I build inns for players to stop for night, I like building bridges over rivers, exposed ravines even small oceans. It doesn't bother me at all that the elytra renders those modes of transportation less efficient, I build them because I enjoy it. Secondly I build rail networks all the time, either as overworld subways, which doubles as a way to collect stone for building projects, through the upper end of the nether. Again I know ice boats and the elytra are both faster, but I like the afk aspect of rails, and I have nostalgia to when rails were the best way to get around. I can still remember the world where my brother and I started at opposite ends and dug a 13,400 block subway tunnel to connect the world spawn to his base. It was a long rail ride, but you could afk. Also I still use rail networks for my strip mines, dump everything into a chest cart and it zips up to a hopper sorting system on the surface.
    Everything in Minecraft still has an application and purpose if the player wants to use it. Want to travel by horse and build up a stable breeding the best horses? Go for it. Want to zip around with elytras and unlimited rockets from a creeper farm, all while building floating islands in the overworld? More power to you. That is what keeps me playing Minecraft all these years later, you can do what you want, and how you want, whether you're on a smp world or single player.
