Didn’t like the concept of elimination. Would have been nice all the cars do the all the tests. Never know, the eliminated car could have stronger in the following tests!!

Ive owned fast Audis in the past and they do that understeer thing on a regular basis they really are crap if you like spirited driving and I don't mean driving fast in a straight line in the centre of town.
Life's too short for understeer. I'd have a little mx5 over an rs3, no joke
Audis have front-biased awd systems that cause understeer, it's so stupid.
Just got rid of my wife's SQ5 it was crap, had a new Cayenne its worlds apart in the handling stakes.

@@ianchmp There's another great video on UA-cam, where the same guy in the same day, was running all the car in the category. It took them on a bigger circuit with more differents type of corners and straight lines. Even the RS3 almost failed to the Civic R. When you know the difference in power, Its very shameful for the audi !

Not the appalling looks? Looks like it was designed by someone without eyes. May I also suggest that you don't know much about the fk8 type R as they have known cooling issues and crunchy gearboxes.

@@gardini100 that is a pretty uncommon view. Most people on forums suggest the Civic is one of the ugliest cars ever, I agree with them. The styling is a shocker.

@@tracktimevideos5164 absolute rubbish, 1 the aero is genuine and 2 the yanks break the gearbox’s because they can’t drive had 3 type R’s including the new fk8 and no issues. Only a fool would underestimate how capable it is.
These tests are ridiculously stupid. Just put them on a track, time them and tell us which is the best. It's easy. The Cupra is known to post seriously quick lap times but didn't play a part after the first test.
Funny thing.... before this vid I was watching Donut Media with our boy James HRSPRS reviewing 8 fastest FWD where the Renault Megane RS Trophy was the fastest.... go figure...

This review was always about H2H between Megane RS and Civic Type R on track. The first two tests and other two cars were just for show/decoy.
I would have loved to see the 2016 focus RS in this, just because it's not in production anymore doesn't mean it doesn't compete with these other big names.
Why wasn't the Megane Trophy with 300HP beeing used? Or at least meantioned? And the first test was a bit silly TBH

French hot hatches have always been amazing. All the way to the Renault 5 turbo 2 or even the little alpine a110. Vive la France 🇫🇷

I know this is a reasonably old video but , it is annoying as a Petrolhead that the Cupra gets eliminated on a test mostly to do with how it goes into a "parking garage" , compared to the S3 for example the Cupra is a far more enjoyable hot hatch to drive! (I've driven both). Nice video but I can't help but find some of these ways of "eliminating" cars a bit silly!
That's fair to say. On the other hand, the Cupra has only basic front struts (no separate steering axis) so it struggles a lot more with torque steer than the Civic or Megane, which Jason mentioned.
It's a shame they eliminate at all. All cars should do all the tests.

Civic won. F1 driver vs car journalist and it was really close race.
Interesting, I've not seen many tests that didn't just rave about the Honda- I test drove one because of all the hype and found like this test that it does understeer a fair bit. Also sounds pretty bad. Very practical and surprisingly comfy, but I certainly didn't wake up the next morning wanting one, so no Type R for me.
It probably comes into its own at high speeds on a track. I'll concede that the exhaust sounds kinda dull. I still believe the Type R is hot hatch king though.

CTR has superior engine. Megane has superior chassis.

The track test was the biggest joke - how they try make the race seem so close - how the renault keeps up with a Honda in a straight line?? HAHA every other video ive seen it gets so gapped... but hey at least two clowns had fun . Last time I watch this crap channel

It takes a lot away in cornering.
The hype of the Honda is a little too much for it's own good. No doubt it is a very capable car, but honestly they could have done more to the car to polish it up. Test drove both of them and as capable as the CTR is, the hype is not justified as it sounds like a vacuum, is tbh too garish and tacky for the daily drive. The RS Megane would still be my choice

Pointless when they clearly are not racing them to the max. Lap times controlled by a lad pressing a stop watch 😂. Show accurate lap times and then we will see.

Wasn't sure about the new guy at first but he ended being entertaining and its good to have someone with that level of driving skill putting the cars through their paces

What if the first car to be eliminated is better at several other things, but can't show it? I am not convinced about this method of finding the best car :P
Yeah it's a pretty flawed comparison test. They should have let all the cars compete in all the tests and tally the final score that way. Instant elimination doesn't really prove anything. I'm scratching my head how the R.S. Megane won over a Type R.
@@rootsmanuva82 the tests favoured it. If it was a track only toy, the decision was right. So much more to owning a hot hatch though. Civic winds in the real world as just about every comparison I've seen concludes.

Sounds like a fixed test for Renualt to win. No other reviews actually rave about the megan. I've also not know hondas fk8 to spin an inside wheel either. Very poor this from Fifth Gear, these tests are poor and outdated.

Must be a common phenomena among mechanics, I know two service workers, one works for Audi, the other for Subaru, first says he'll never buy a modern Audi, second drives a Focus RS. Statistically speaking Renaults aren't that bad though.

Renault Sport has been at the top of the game for many years now, pretty nice that it can keep up with the competition despite having smallest engine and least amount of horsepower.
Too bad they didn't stick to a 2.0 engine like the previous generations but this probably has to do with environmental regulations 😞😞
The megane will fall to bits after 6 months.

In recent reliability surveys Renault is above audi and seat. Behind Honda obviously but some way ahead of the other French makes.
That is probably why they are among the most used cars on the Nordschleife. Renault Sport models are quite different from the "normal" cars they are based on. Reliability has never been a problem on RS models.
So the F1 pilot is faster 🤭

Megane might shade it on the one day you're at above 90% but there's no way I'd have it as a daily over my Civic. Horrendous interior, ride comfort, French build quality and boring things like practicality, cabin noise, features etc. Overall I don't think the Megane can compete anywhere other than on track.

The renault would still destroy them. It's not all about straight line performance, yes the A35 snd 135iM would be quicker in straight line but they are no where near as capable in corners
The 4wheel steer does work
The SEAT and Audi have the most usable performance and you can use them everyday, no one will drive the Renault everyday, the suspension is far to harsh for everyday use

Everyone knows the Civic Type R is superior to the R.S. Megane. Only Renault fanboys think otherwise. That's not to say the R.S. Megane isn't a fantastic car. It is. But the Type R is a true track weapon and future classic... even though it's been hit with an ugly stick (but it's styling is growing on me).
