Yeah, exactly. When I was at Berkeley I would often stay up all night in the basement of the math building where there were free terminals one could use. That was back in the '80s so instead of typing my papers on a typewriter at home and using Wite-Out, I would enter them at the math building, then correct using the basic word processor and print up as many copies as I wanted there. Then I'd spend some time on the proto-internet, hanging in newsgroups. Those were the days.
Same. I went for radio and we actually had our own school station that we did shifts on and I had a midnight show that I would go in around 9/10pm, get a couple hours of sleep for and then do the shift

I use to do night maintenance at a college, I would always run into people crashing out in chairs, couches, corners of class rooms, etc, most of the time they never bother you, so you never bother them.

We have a private college here which is on the grounds of a decommissioned Navy base hospital. They have let the beautiful old buildings rot and do not maintain the old parking lots either. They built new buildings at the far end of the property and that's it. One time I was photographing the old hospital and parked in the furthest old lot, which had ZERO signage of any kind (unlike areas closer to the new campus.) Basically I was parking on an abandoned, derelict piece of asphalt lol. They tried to give me a ticket. I took pix of my car's location and the entire lot and old building it was attached to, proving the lack of signage. They reluctantly canceled the ticket. HA.
I never even bothered buying a parking pass in college. My school didn't care.

Yeah, I was wondering why he doesn't just use the hotspot on his phone. It's not expensive to have a plan which includes that (or I wouldn't have it haha.) Maybe he's cutely tech illiterate? You can't know everything about everything, I guess.
Alternatively, McDonald's and Starbucks both have decent free wifi. Or at least, they do around here. I think almost anything would be better than 1. university services or 2. government services. The fire station near me has city wifi and it's open, but typically, it's terrible. The neighbor next door gave me a full rundown LOL. I had a volunteer clerical position for several years with a city agency here, and on my first day (in 2012) I noticed that the desktop computers were at least ten years old and still using XP.

Ive done it as an engineer at my old college, but yeah still ballsy man. Some schools are so much more strict. Our janitors come in, say goodmorning, do their thang, and leave LOL. So common at my old place. Usually never went alone for reasons like needing to go out for food or the car for something and 2nd person can open the door. As well as taking turns sleeping/studying.
Not that crazy really. Especially if your actually a student. I’ve spent many of nights studying for finals and sleeping in campus libraries/classrooms.

It’s crazy cuz I go here and they are kicking me out. I’m a disabled vet so my parking is paid for so that not the issue, they just don’t want me to living in my car on campus they said.

after working and living on multiple college campuses I can say stumbling across someone camped out in a classroom is towards the more normal end of the scale of things I’ve come across

not sure how Denver works, but in Hawaii the university tickets actually prevent you from registering your car until paid.
trick is to never register your car. I was lucky and my grandpa had alot of trucks so id rack up 8 tickets and then switch trucks, went through all four years of undergrad not paying them lol
@@jonc7371 Depends on what the school’s policies are. Lots of places will boot or tow unregistered vehicles after a few tickets. Also, depending on if a university has their own police force, the tickets don’t become meaningless just because you’re off university property.

Just how do you make watching files upload (at a snail's pace) and sleeping entertaining. I do know how, you craft a story and you're damn good at it. Hunt for internet is the first act, Any good 2nd act has to have the "all is lost moment," files didn't transfer and then almost getting caught. The 3rd act, files finish transferring, just to prove you are the hero, you give the cleaning lady's a gift.
