It turns out the real cellular automata were the friends we made along the way

Stephen gave a pretty interesting answer to the Fermi Paradox: the different sense perceptions of aliens would generate a completely different physics for them. There may be innumerable thought systems to describe the universe, each with their own laws and principles, and so different sense creatures with different physics conceptions would be profoundly alien to each other...to the point that they would not even recognize the other as a "life form." Mind Boggling!!!

It's also said that IF we could somehow talk with ants, our existence and functions are so different we wouldn't have much of any meaning to say to one another.
Even assuming ant nests as a whole was as intelligent as a person, I expect similar would apply.
Similarly, aliens who may be roughly as intelligent as humans might have realities so different that there isn't much to say.
Most animals we can have some level of meaningful interaction with are other mammals, dogs, monkeys, pigs, even dolphins.
A friend of mine had a magpie as a pet, which are extremely intelligent birds. But even his birds behavior, despite obvious high intelligence, was alien and unpredictable, at least compared to say a dog or cat.
For example the magpie social structures are apparently different enough that they don't acclimate to friends of the owner or regular visitors, and may be permanently hostile or territorial in strange ways with any "outsiders", viciously defending "their humans" from other people that they seem to interpret as trying to infiltrate "their closed tribe."
Supposedly there were other oddities too. So despite being very close as my friend rescued and raised it from a baby, some of it's behavior was still really alien.
Not everything that may be conscious to a high level are similar enough to be able to relate well. What would a totally independent evolutionary track produce in say a gas giant? Maybe our thoughts and behaviors would be so different that communication would still be rather meaningless because we are so different.

The story of how very different forms of life peel out into the domain of mathematics and computation to “find” one another. I mean, assuming we’re not alone, I doubt that humans are isolated in the impulse to search for the other intelligences, but our notion of physics and the way we “construct” a universe in experience are intrinsic to any effort we make, so they might just not be visible within our discrete mode of analysis.

I once had a dream, where every movement I made was carving through reality, and there was infinite creatures that were being destroyed with every action I took.
I woke, much to my relief to find it was merely dream logic, but I was left with the sense that the dream logic was actually closer to reality, and I should be more careful with my actions ...

Hell, just show a human from 300 years ago today's technology and they'd be blown away. Now imagine human technology advancements in the next 300 years. No think of an alien civilization that has had hundreds of thousands of years to advance their understanding of science and innovation.

Now that we have billions of connected electronic devices, what emergent phenomena have we observed that we cannot really extract from individual device in the scale of biological cells to human consciousness?

It seems like a little kid sitting among Legos and construct anew shapes , new kids came to him without previous experience of Legos, he told them I can build anything: cars, airplanes, food to eat, with these Legos I can build entire universe to live in….
    Kids have a huge imagination.

Parsing is the problem, not the solution. Holistic awareness, resonance, reflection and relationship is more likely to give insight.

As an abstract reflection of numerology conversion to dimensional reference of perception meaning 1 is 1st dimension 2 being 2nd dimension and so on create an algorithm stating that each number is a representation of collective consciousness communicating like chainmail to its computational dimensional collective significant other in geometrical order of construct of the path of least resistance .yes I said it, if there truly was a big bang it had no thought only to know forward or ego cannot make choice only be what it is focus . So a person is also a reflection of its numerical reflection of the source or god and is a representation of all equation that come with its newest form of dimensional observation and influence or newest interpretation of previous self and pondering of next reflection . What can we obtain from this data well we know 10 billion souls have bin conceived along with pry 10 times that amount over history were either still born or aborted they still count so our reality can be expressed as being in a reality of the 100 billion dimensions we are in and expanding and that is only human consciousness not plant or solid mass like rocks single atoms protons electrons all dimension understanding of self reflection. Note the human genome has a limited sum that it can become before it duplicates so on a 2 dimensional fabric like graph paper the human concept is only like so many by so many

Brilliant mathematical/computer science mind, of course, but SW interrupts his own thoughts (and sentences) which impacts the effectiveness of his communication.
He also lacks a diversified vocabulary and analogizing ability to communicate his ideas cogently.
Perhaps running his statements thru a Max Tegmark, Sabine Hossenfelder, Ian McGilchrist, Frijtof Capra-like filter/translator, would be worthwhile.
