A piece of beetroot and a fried egg is classic in AUS/NZ for burgers. A runny yolk over the burger is great!!!❤
A burger is not a burger without Beetroot 🇦🇺
In Australia real hamburgers have beetroot, makes it taste soooooo much better.👍
Don't forget the BBQ cooked slice of pineapple 😋
34 likes in 8 hrs says it all
And runny egg and bacon
Yes in Australia alot of burgers have pineapple fried egg and beetroot... normally it's called a works buger.
With bacon and cheese as well, for the works.
My parents owned the fish and chips shop in Thirroul NSW when I was a kid in the 80's. Miss that smell
So you would have met the Watt family then?
I loved the smell of the old fish and chip shops. It’s also the sort of waxy paper that went see through they’d put the chips in. Can still smell that! Heaven!
@@allangoodger969 I don't remember the name, I was still a kid at the time. We had the laundromat nextdoor also on the main street.
Love your name 😉
Every suburb that has shops will probably have a traditional Fish n Chips shop evey Australian has their favourite and I'm still checking out recommendations . A real Australian hamburger will have Beetroot (Beet as you call it ) as part of the salad which also includes lettuce and tomato .some take aways will include fried onion (yum) and you can add options such as bacon, cheese ,fried egg or pineapple . Chicken salt was invented by a benevolent religious deity who wanted to reward us Aussies for being so good looking and modest , its a heavenly miracle .
That is what a plain hambuger looks like in Australia, only 1 has chicken and the other beef.
Yes it is beetroot "beets"
Making me hungry for fish and chips now!
Chicken salt will always make Aussie chips superior. 🍟🤤. It's basically similar to the yellow chicken flavour/seasoning sachets you would get in instant noodles.
In Australia anything in a bun is called a burger. Be it chicken, fish, veggie etc...all called burgers. It's only called a sandwich if it's between two slices of bread.
With the beetroot, we do add it to our burgers and sandwiches. It's pickled beetroot though from a tin not the fresh bland woody tasting stuff.
We will need to send you chicken salt
My wife has lovely buns, but if I try to get her too excited for too long, I end up burgered.
Being an Ausie,I can say that The Fish and Chips here is amazing. The Chicken Salt on the chips is yummy...like a slight barbeque flavour.
I'm an Australian who grew up on fish and chips and I'm salivating 🤤
Deep frying Mrs bars is a skill. If you leave it too long the chocolate and caramel bursts out and you have to replace the whole vat of oil lol
I love the Jolly Channel. They are so funny. I was very excited to see you react to that video and yes that fish and chips looked next level. We have a good one locally also.
Our beetroot is cold in slices marinated in sugar and vinegar and is delicious
Yes beetroot is how we roll in Australia 🇦🇺
Back in the day we went to the fish and chip shop to get hamburgers there was no Macca's or Hungry Jack's, you can't beat Aussie/NZ fish and chips
we don't refer to 'chicken sandwiches' by that name, we just call them chicken burgers. a regular 'burger' would be called a hamburger or a cheese burger if you want cheese. here a sandwich is generally only used to refer to something between sliced bread, if its in a roll/bun its either a burger or referred to as what it is, eg 'salad roll'. if its in a long roll, its sometimes referred to as a sub.
if you asked for a chicken sandwich, someone would probably make you something with shredded roast chicken between slices of bread and it would be cold.
it looks like that chicken burger has chicken, beetroot (beats pickled in vinegar, usually with some sugar and pepper mixed in) tomato, grated carrots and lettuce. not sure whats on top of the chicken. they are fairly common toppings here.
most burgers here are around that size unless you get it from a fast food place.
Dar The Traveler I am in Sydney, Australia, my local fish and chips shop in Gordon has many burgers [Beef] and Chicken, Steak sandwiches, they have milkshakes also. Also they have nice Tasmanian scallops and Calamari. I wish you could travel to Australia during December and January in our summer.
The beets that are on these burgers (and often feature in burgers as well as salads in Australia) are tinned and are sort of pickled giving them a soft texture and a sweet tangy flavour.
We do eat raw and roasted beets to, but tinned beetroot in a burger is pretty much standard
what you call a miky way we call a mars bar. what we call a milky way is what you call a 3 musketeers. Beetroot is important on an Aussie hamburger . Also we dont call burgers sandwiches, if its a bun its a burger and slices of bread is a sandwich.
I'm one Aussie that always say NO to beetroot on my burger!
Your beet is our pickled beetroot - once our beetroot is pickled, it's much sweeter than the beets I had in the US - same thing, tastes different.
Any meat placed between two buns is automatically classed as a burger, no matter the meat
We don’t call it sandwiches here that’s so weird calling a chicken burger a sandwich
it's pickled beetroot so it's used instead of pickled cucumber in australia it's not as tangy as pickled cucumber so it's like a milder pickle flavour.
If you’re going for a burger, do it all the way, even if it’s just street food. Batter, use s/r flour and beer or soda water, ( lemonade adds sweetness) , a pinch of curry powder, water, mix.
Reminds me of fried egg, cheese mushroom and Vegemite sarnie. Bloody beautiful ❤️
Cheers Dar, welcome mate :)
Fish n Chips ..... Hoki and Hake are the same thing.
A burger, whether it's beef, chicken or fish; if it doesn't have beetroot on it, it is unaustralian. I love beef burger with the lot, it includes lettuce, tomato, cheese, beetroot, bacon and fried egg; if it's chicken just add pineapple, and for fish lose the bacon and egg. You can have a potato or pineapple fritter, deep fried in batter; or a banana fritter, deep fried in bread crumbs. Mars bars are chocolate coated caramel fudge.
A question for you? Do you call a big mac a beef sandwich even though it's served on the same bun as a mc chicken? Btw a chicken burger is served on a sesame seed bun and a chicken sandwich is served on white sliced bread and the chicken is either shredded or sliced too
Fish n chips in Melbourne are the best. For some reason i have never been able to get flake (Gummy Shark) in any other state in Australia. No disrespect to the other states, but i still think Melbourne is the best place to get fish n greasies in the country.
Easy to get flake in Brisbane, it's been my go-to for quite a few years.
@@phunkmonkeycookiegarage7773 Good to know things have changed
From Bondi to Bega the best fish & chips are forever immortalized in the local knowledge of Tommy's Corner...r.i.p. scollops from the gods ! Corrimal was the spot.
The fish cocktail is the chicken nugget of the sea... Hoki , flake , whiting or barramundi are the popular choice for meat - white flesh , battered often 2 or 3 layers added after a flash fry so that the fish & each layer is cooked very evenly... Golden crunchy goodness many Aussies eat traditionally after a day at the beach or Friday nights avoiding red meat in some routines.
Salad chicken burger can have coleslaw or any salad with the same sort of effect as schnitzel with salad - heaps of different ways you can build a chicken burger...but just cos lettuce and fresh mayonnaise on a big bun makes the most delicious half sandwich/half burger ... No rules really, any shop will make a burger to your liking - they want you happy with your experience and return for another meal.
There hot chips fries are skinny versions of chips , check it out but the surface are of chips and fries , the chips hold less oil after cooking per measure/weight of the potato as there is more potato that the hot oil doesn’t soak into because of the thickness
On the burgers there is lettice, carrot, tomato, beetroot.
Mars Bar is a chocolate snack bar. Now battered and deep fried.
Long John Silver's sounds like barnacle bill's we get in South Australia! Sometimes good sometimes bad. And surely you have Zingers in USA? That's a chicken burger.
I never heard of zingers lol
@@darthetraveler They probably only sell them in Australian KFC?
There's no going back after you've tried chicken salt!
And they have not even had a nice piece of FLAKE (Shark). Delicious...
What Americans call a chicken sandwich we call a chicken burger which makes more sense in my opinion, a chicken sandwich to us Aussies would be chicken between two slices of bread, do you Americans still call that a chicken sandwich too?
Yes we still call it a chicken sandwich lol
You're reacting to a video some British kids made whilst eating fish n chips here in Australia. 😂
A Mars bar is literally a US Milky Way. So picture a deep fried Milky Way.
"I've got a question. At the chicken farm... who decides which chickens become roast chickens..... and which ones become chicken salt?" - Carl Barron (Aussie comedian) look him up :)
that is funny
i think a mars bar is called a milky way in the US
Traditional Fish and chips are wrapped in paper!
Hoki is a deep sea New Zealand fish
The chicken burger doesn’t have a beef pattie on it
I’ve had deep fried ice cream. It’s the best.
Check out the history of chicken salt a guy in south australia invented it
you should do a blog on what YOU do and show how it is done would rate its head off
Yum yum yum - now I need to eat some fish and chips.
There's no chicken in chicken salt. 😉
It's not a burger unless it has beetroot on it.
Deep fry mars is good
I SEE YOU ARE GETTING HUNGRY
It's not quality burger without beetroot. And they should have gotten a pineapple fritter.
That would normally feed 5 or more, these boys have a large capacity!! 😄 Grilled is better, for sure! Yes, beetroot slices, nice looking salad, at least not all fried! I can't believe they ate all that, and more fried!! 😳 I hope they clean up, and then nap! 😟
That was a lot of food lol
As a person who grew up in Australia and New Zealand I have to say compared to The Down Under fish and chips, Long John Silvers fish and chips was garbage. Cheepest nastiest fish and tasteless batter. If you tried to sell Long Johns Silver fish and chips in Australia you would be run out of town.
That battered fish looks absolutely amazing but I have to take points away for skinny chips. Has to be proper fat fish shop chips for me. They have those at the Avalon Beach fish and chip shop in Sydney. I think the best fish cakes are in Dee Why. Any other recommendations are welcome!
There was a fish and chip shop in corrimal that the original owner then when his kids took it over would hand cut the chips every morning he had the best chips I had tasted
What?No potato cakes.No dim sims
Not a proper fish and chip shop visit without 6 dim sims, steamed or fried with soya sauce.
In Australia, we are lazy, so we call things like that burgers, cuz its easiers, yes technically its a chicken fillet sandwich. Also Chicken salt is chicken flavoured salt. Its awesome. You can make it by addding chicken stock into salt.
Hoki Or Flake IS Shark By the way./ The cheapest shitest fish meat hahahah.
Beetroot is great on burgers!
thats it im outa here fushnchups shop 2 corners away bye.,
Hi Dar, You can buy Oreos in our Aussie Supermarkets. But the ingredients are up to our standards, which are some of the highest in the world. But personally I prefer my Mars Bars and Oreos just the way they are.
REMEMBER DELTA CREAMS ..the cream wes just tastier ,NOT AS SWEET AS OREOS
Dar, you've gotta get yourself a P.O. box so we can send you some chicken salt and other Australian snacks
Hi Dar, Aussie fish itself is really tender, battered is awesome. Chicken burger has battered chicken tender/breast, shredded carrot, shredded lettuce, beetroot, tomato, mayonnaise, often some form of aoli.
The chicken burger had lettuce, carrot tomato and beetroot and maybe cheese..? ...so you're getting at least 4 serves of veggies in the burger. This shop serves fabulous food .
Chicken sandwich for you is a chicken burger for us.
The other language writing is Korean. If you ever want to branch out and react to something about Korea these guys have 2 channels. This one is jolly. This is actually the smaller channel. The main one is Korean Englishman. Both awesome to watch.
Thanks for the heart. Obviously reacting to something in Korean is nearly impossible. These guys are a perfect compromise. In English, western thoughts. But a lot of Korean content.
I’m Aussie. But Taiwanese gf, they speak Chinese but I’m interested in all Asian culture.
These guys can be hilarious. But give great insights.
I’d love to give you some Chinese or Taiwanese videos to watch as it’s closer to my life. But most are very political and it’s just not fun.
These guys literally spent 10’s of thousands of dollars taking English high school kids to Korea for 2 weeks. Much better to watch.
From state to state not a lot of difference in the burgers, with the exception of Victoria, down there they are just really simple folk, down there a standard burger would be a SLOPPY JHO in an American highschool. But in the 3 other Australian states where I have actually had a burger from a take away shop.
A standard burger consist of a bun lightly toasted a scrap of marg or butter top & bottom, shredded lettuce, a layer of tomato, beetroot, meat patty, fried onion & you choose from tomato sauce, BBQ sauce or chilli sauce. My nieces from Victoria said OH, THAT'S WITH THE LOT, I DIDN'T WANT THIS.,!!!
My reply was no this is a standard burger in any other state, other than where you are from. In Q.L.D. N.S.W. & W.A. if you want a burger with the lot, you get all the above PLUS bacon, cheese, egg, cucumber, a fried pineapple ring. And depending on where you are getting your burger it could be on/in a bun that is 4" across up to a bun that is 7" across. In conclusion we in the land of OZ, we have a good variety of take away shops other than Macca's or Burger King (aka. Hungry Jack's).
So if & when you can make it COME ON DOWN
Stan - you have no idea what you're on about dissing Vic burgers like that you muppet!
Just so you know HOKI fish is part of the COD family but a milder taste taken from the deep ocean. FLAKE or Hake is actually SHARK. A mild flavour but he's right it's meaty but moist and tender. Flake is preferred and cooked more in fish shops as ppl want fish but don't necessarily want the taste of a strong fishy fish. However a good shop will sell many types of fish like barramundi. Mainly caught up the top end of Australia. However barra as we call it can be expensive as it's regarded as a premium fish highly used in the restaurant industry and loved by chef's worldwide.
Shops will even give you a choice of coating such as batter/crumbed /grilled on whatever fish you choose. We are surrounded by clean oceans so our seafood is premium quality all year round. Plus our oils get changed regularly. We have high food standards to adhere to here also.
I must say shark is awesome 😋...and top of my favourites 😁
Anyhow I think these guy's have everyone's mouths watering lol I'm starving too now 😂
Not obviously eaten fish & chips on east coast of Scotland from Dundee too Aberdeen as best generally anywhere in UK & ive lived also travelled all around the UK for 50yrs & only found a half decent one here & there in Wales/England every county Also the islands such as IOM, IOW, Jersey, Guernsy etc... Also Ireland & N ireland too
When McDonald’s introduced the Aussie burger that had beetroot on it, the consumption of beetroot was massive, the power of McDonald’s is huge , there now selling potato scallops and there is now a shortage of potatoes , due to the flooding we have experienced here and some are blaming macca’s for the shortage of potato , potatoes are being rationed at supermarkets
Actually Macca's is to blame according to the news. They are buying up huge amounts of potatoes🤨 and it's come from several other sources not just the news 🙆♀️also prices have doubled for spuds. I use to get a 10kg bag for around $10 now you can only get 4kg for $10 🤦♀️
Chicken salt is made by putting chicken powder stock into salt, around 50/50 mix
The best fish and chips are up in North Queensland. In the south they eat things like mullet. That's basically bait.. You cant even use shark in places like Townsville unless requested or you will get run out of town.
This Kiwi does not like beetroot. At all. Not even on her burgers.
Am I still a Kiwi?
Yes sliced canned beetroot is a thing. In queensland you get a pineapple slice and a fried egg as well.
Chicken Salt is awesome.
Power of suggestion who in Australia 🇦🇺is salivating for fish n chips or a burger with the lot right now?
Hoki is a NZ white fish, commonly used in our fish n chip shops.
A chicken burger is usually schnitzel crumbed breast of chicken deep fried and made up as you would a hamburger.
Some one said Hokey Pokey, that’s a dance but it is also a type of vanilla ice cream with hard toffee bits through it, ostensibly from NZ as well. Just filling you in.
They were in Randwick a suburb of Sydney, and whilst it may be the place to go in Sydney, I doubt it’s the best fish n chips in Australia, but they seemed pretty happy with it.
As for having a doctor on one side, and perhaps a gym on the other, not a bad idea. 😂😜
I been eating real fish and ships in England 🏴 in a papper it was good😋
The beef looking thing is actually sliced beetroot. And a mars bar is what you call a milky way
Hey Dar, when you come over.. please teach us about SOUL FOOD...
That was a great video. I think I'm getting some fish and chips for dinner tomorrow night or a burger with the lot.
Chocolate filled churros the best of the best in Mexican deserts
You really have to watch the movie "take away". Great Aussie movie
Hope the fish and chip shop in clovelly knows about this video
Must be recent, plastic forks banned now get wood instead.
Oil has to be very hot and won't be greasy
Hoki is said “hockeye” not “hockey”.
Yes - we have beetroot on our burgers...
Frying Nemo
I think a Mars Bar is a called a Milky Way in the US.
Oh nice! I like milky ways
We should send Dar the chicken salt, can’t live without it
I’ll be getting a P.O. Box next week!
@@darthetraveler excellent
Im glad you checking this out, Dar, see if Darion still has some chicken salt, I sent him some lol, must be time for a top up soon
Definitely gonna ask him lol
@@darthetraveler lol, u should...
I have a freind That was in Australia Christmas and new year visit hes Sisters dother with his Familly.
Old seasoned salt is the best thing going, even better than chicken salt 😁
Hokji and flake sound terrible but its nice. Better to go for barramundi. The chicken burger like most fish n chips shops have carrot, beetroot, lettuce, tomato. The batter can also be changed too, You can get Battered, ie beer batter like shown here, or Crumbed. Which is like crumbed and fried. Deep fried icecream is better.
