I like how you showed your upside down card. I once made a side folding card that opened the wrong way. The image was a large, bold, goofy looking giraffe & the recipient is a very unique person, SO instead of fixing it, I sent it as-is with a note on the inside about that person deserving a very unique card.
I let my 7 year old granddaughter play with alcohol inks today, I think she is as addicted as I am!! Then she seen your video and was really excited to watch. Tomorrow we are making cards out of all the backgrounds we made today. Thanks for sharing your creativity.

This video is amazing not only in working with my favorite medium-alcohol inks- but because you aren’t shy about addressing the times we are in namely the pandemic we all are dealing with. It’s the elephant in the room so why not openly encourage each other thru it! It is going to get worse as the pathologists are saying here in the US so to help steer us to not only trust God with our difficulties but encouragement with a card. Im all for it!!! So thanks Jennifer for recognizing this moment of great opportunity to use our talents to lift up others.

I would say the alloys seem to "vein" like how when you see a vein of gold in a rock that is mined. Or in marble how it has veins of color. So cool!

Probably my favorite thing to do is to make backgrounds rather than actually making cards! I love all of these and I'm looking forward to getting a hold of some mixatives/alloys. Of course it's hard to tell with a computer screen but some of those colors looked very similar to the old colors. Dijon looked like butterscotch and Laguna looked a lot like Stream. Hard to tell unless it was a side by side shot. However I have no alloys or mixatives, so I look forward to getting those. Thanks for all of the hard work and great designs! Stay safe girl.
Tim Holtz talked about similarities to retired colors. I haven't used Ranger alcohol inks, so I'm not sure. I have been using pinata
Mary Pent if you have foil or metallic embossing powder or even an acrylic paint in a metallic color, I think you could get a similar look. Maybe even mica powder mixed with some liquid acrylic medium.
Jennifer I watch all your videos and love all the techniques you teach. One thing I started doing that you may like is using parchment paper under my alcohol ink project. I cut a piece of parchment paper about 2 inches larger than my paper, it turns with ease, and then I can move the whole thing to the side to dry. It has been a game changer for me. I hope you give it a try! Love the dedication you have to us, and the work you do to make card making fun for everyone. Thank you.

This type of background is becoming my favorite. I like how only only part of the background paper was colored with the alcohol inks. These are so beautiful.

A while back you did a video where you used white felt taped on a ruler and put the inks on the felt and made the most beautiful rainbows and designs...Tim mentioned it on his recent video!! I think Tim mentioned on that great AL video of his that the Blending Solution will set the Alloys so that they won't flake off. Just got the new air blower, too. Gorgeous cards and color combos. I have the older AL inks and thinking about adding some new ones. You are amazing. TFS.

I love, love, love doing backgrounds and your new ideas using Alloy Inks really made a huge hit with me. Thank you for sharing! Like you, I don't want to use up my expensive metallic cardstock just to make a matted border. So, I cut out my metallic frames, and then with a craft knife, cut out the interior of the frame leaving about a 3/4 inch border for my card front That way, I still have some of my metallic center left over to use on other projects.

These alloys might just be the tipping point for getting me into alcohol inks. I haven’t crossed that bridge yet. I have been avoiding wanting to spend more money on another technique.
handy tip i picked up from tim holtz is that you NEED to use the blending solution with the alloys to make them stick and bond to the paper when they dry. otherwise they will rub off the surface!! the blending solution has like a resin/glue for the alloys to stick to. plain alcohol doesn't!! so rule of thumb for alloys, alcohol to make the base colours move, add alloys, then blending solution on top of alloys, blend n dry. that'll give u a permantly sparkly background instead of one that the sparkles are on your fingers by time ur done making the cards :-)
yes i believe the colored alcohol inks bond it too. but i use blending soultion anyway!
@@jennifermcguireink yup. figured i'd say it as my first round of testers that i did, i didn't use the blending solution and then sulked at becuase my hands were gold and the paper wasn't LOL! Thanks for all the extra long vids, stay safe x

love your cards, just wish you could do more using products people are likely to have - normal ink pads, Mica Powders etc. I avoid projects if I'm required to buy things I don't have already. Happy New Year to you and your family🥰
Hi ya, what do you mean by normal ink pads? Ranger inks have been out for years and years, long before some of these newer companies.

@@jennifermcguireink if you're replying to me (mzp) yes, I know it's dye ink. :D I was wondering what Elizabeth Hair meant by "normal' ink pads. ;) It's been two years but still like to go back and watch (and get inspired) by the old stuff.
I watched some of Tim's video on Alcohol inks yesterday and had pulled out my alcohol inks ready for use. Seeing your video today convinced me I needed to make some backgrounds. I don't have any of the alloys yet but will order the gilded and the silver since I love the look they create. My mixatives were old and no longer usable so I tossed them and will give the alloys a try. Thanks for sharing all these! I loved all your cards and especially the Easter cards!
LOL! The gilded and silver were out of stock, but I did manage to order the Foundry alloy! The Platinum Embossing Powder from Ranger might be perfect with that one. I did get some new inks colors too!
