My girlfriend has one - 1996 4x4 extra cab V6 manual, 92k miles, she's the original owner. Yep, it's a unicorn. She bought the manual in case she's out in the woods and the battery dies and it needs pushed to start - she's so logical. Finding parts is getting tough, though. Actually, finding her I felt like I found a unicorn - she's awesome. Her other car is a 2000 BMW Z3 convertible.
I’ve got a single cab 96 Tacoma I bought from my aunt who was the original owner and it’s only got 60k on it a it’s the 4 cylinder with the 5 speed manual with regular cab
Just completely restored my sons 96..repainted it toyota quicksand tan..repowered with remaned engine, clutch and flywheel. Radiator..i put a 1.5 inch lift to clear 32 inch tires..truck looks gorgeous.
I have this exact truck w manual trans and 4x4. Amazingly reliable and such a utilitarian truck. Mine has power windows, locks, cruise control, and tachometer. Because of the rarity and options on my truck, I got the bed rhino lined and fixin to get a professional paint job. Paid $5k 5 years ago w 150k miles.
I just got a 2019 tacoma TRD offroad 4x4 Manual with almost every option tonneau, predator steps etc Lol and I have to say I'm really liking these small old legendary trucks a lot. this little thing is beautiful!
Best truck!!! Played a lot of shows with it. 3 peace band that truck was perfect for load and unload of band gear with shell. Had the xlt sr5 forest green. Miss it :(
these trucks have been increasing in value recently and for good reason. they're really nice looking in my opinion. I have a 2012 white tacoma with 64k miles on it. Call me stupid but I would be willing to sell it or trade it for an older tacoma with higher miles on it. these first generation tacomas 95-04 are getting stupid expensive even with 100k+ miles on them. My 2012 only sells for about 11k and that is being generous!
i've got a '93 Pickup with 243k on a 3vze & i'm just here eyeing that 5vz 👀. it's really interesting to see how similar the interior details are. wouldn't trade mine for anything though.
I have the standard type 95 xtra cab v6.bone stock😎 2600,000.these mini trucks growing up is was our power trains back in the day n still is upto now💪🏽
So I've seen quite a few reviews of 20 years or older Toyota's with high 200K miles...I guess I won't be afraid to look for a Toyota truck from the 90s
I had a 95 Tacoma. Great truck. But if you are going to buy a first gen, be very sure the frame is not rusted through (be very thorough in checking. If it's coated, be even more suspicious.)
CD player still works great, the cassette not so much lol. If you look on the video when I pass by it, you can see it has a cassette jammed stuck inside it. This was my fault when I was younger, I didn't know how to use it hahaha.
Sweet! The evergreen is a really neat color I'd say. We definitely are taking good care of this one now, we just put like $900 worth of new parts into it so it's good to go
Nice truck, but I wouldn't consider it old school, since you still see a bunch of late 70s and 80s Toyota trucks all over the place. The 22R is indestructible.
@@rccr23 THANK YOU! Found it! I have just bought this truck and haven't had a chance to learn every detail---in addition to which I'm an old guy with somewhat challenged close-up vision (!) so I have simply overlooked it several times, I think. I appreciate your assistance.
Hey what tool box is that?? I just bought a 97 Tacoma lx extended cab with 79,000 miles on it for a work truck and I need tool box so please tell me what brand that is please, thanks nice video
I'm not actually sure...It's my dad's truck and he doesn't know either. I think it's just a generic brand you'd get at a store like tractor supply or something like that. That's awesome that you came across a Tacoma with only 79k
I like the heavy viscosity, good for the hot weather here, helps with oil consumption, plus you can't get Rotella t4 which is conventional in 5w30 and I don't want any synthetic or synthetic blend cause I don't want any leaks to start.
Yes these trucks are absolutely worth the price if they are in good shape. They will last forever with pretty minimal problems. Rust is the biggest issue with these so as long as you get a solid one with minimal rust that has been taken care of, you should be good to go.
@@rccr23 hey bro. I have a black 1996 Tacoma 2.7 5 speed manual. Its the DLX so it only seats 2. But I drive to Montana, Virginia, New York and LosVegas. Its never failed me. I run Mickey Thompson 32x11.50r15 Baja MTZ p3 The driver side frame rail, I just welded up 24lbs of thick gage steel to it. Fixed a nasty break. It split in the 4 directions lol. But honestly its now stronger than it was when it was new. I put alot of new parts on it. I even rolled it in Montana. 4x4 by a river. Don't do it. But I saved her. She ran that day. I've since fixed the body damage. And brotha get on Ebay ASAP and for like 36 dollars order the LED light kit....Hellalight! And its easy. You don't need to take your grill off or none if that. Buts its a huge safety increase. Those trucks taken care of run forever. Sunshine and love!
I prefer this model than the current one. Simple, reliable, less electronics=less headche...cheap to maintain!!! Don't sell it, you can pass it yo your children later on.
Miss these trucks! The TRUE essence of a work truck!!! Finding one in good condition is like finding a unicorn lol
True. I sold my 1997 last year like a dummy, and got lucky to buy it back yesterday

They still make them! And they still outlast every other truck on the road.

bought my 2002 Tacoma xtracab 3 months ago v6 4wd diff locker for 15k with 195k miles it had been for sale for less then a hour.
'96 2.7 auto 4x4 91,000 miles here, ready to be sold when someone wants it. Really nice but I just can't use all the vehicles I have to the fullest.

Some new floormats would freshen it up. Good walkaround video, love these old tacos
I have the exact same truck just with a lot of offroad mods done to it but its nice to see videos on the early tacomas!
Yeah, what all mods do you have on yours?
What mods????
Love it, can't go wrong with them old school Toyota trucks
Yeah they're awesome

@@rccr23 Oh okay, does the radio have good quality?
Yeah it's alright. Not too bad for a 23 year old truck at least.
Thank you for this video. It’s very thorough
Good review bud, keep it up.
i just got a 95 evergreen just like yours i wish you could see it, take care of that thing

RCCR when I get my wheels and tires put on I’ll send you a pic some how!
Yeah that'd be great, you can shoot me an email at tannercasbeer623@gmail.com if you'd like
Picked up a 1998 With 78k miles from a fella that died. Trucks like new
Nice, that should last you for a good while
It´s funny y mentioned that they got shipped to mexico, cause i live in mexico and just got one in mint condition
Well that's good, how do you guys get parts for them down there?
autozone, amazon, ebay, junkyards, and NAPA. but its pretty hard to find toyotas in a junkyard

I have this truck but have been unable to find a place to plug in a car phone charger. Is there not a place to connect one?
Ours has a 12v outlet just to the left of the ashtray under the radio, that's what we use

I have an 02 but like the front grill and lights better on the older ones. I wonder if it would be a direct swap.
Yeah I'm not sure, there's probably someone out there who's done it though
Very good review. Thank you
Omgggggg I want one so bad

Nice vids, keep it up!
Thanks!
Great video
Is this a good first car and can it fit a snowboard in the truck bed
Yeah it would be a great first vehicle. I'm sure it can fit a snowboard, the bed is 6.5 ft long.
RCCR thanks
I must have a higher trim model bc. I have cruse and a tac on my 96
Yeah probably so
Is there a reason why you use 15w40 as per the recommend 5w30?

@@rccr23 interesting. I’ll try the 15w40 next oil change. I live in south Texas and it’s hot/humid as hell down here.
I have this exact truck. Just picked it up with 226k miles. You still driving it?
Yessir, 320k miles going strong. Just replaced the brake master cylinder on it today
@@rccr23 Amazing
96 came standard with 15" wheels.

What kind of tires?
BFG KO. They are 31s
Is good truck nice video
Thanks, it's a great truck indeed!
Did you run that motor with those vacuum lines capped?
Yeah, it's just emissions stuff that doesn't affect the way it runs at all. The old lines were dried out and cracked so they didnt work anyway.
The passenger back "seat" isn't a cupholder. Lol I thought that too until I found out it's a child seat support. Lol no sh*t.
How many miles does it have now?
Almost 298k still running strong
How much is the current price for this yr model?
Depends on condition and mileage but typically around $4-6k I'd say
I have a 95 LX with only 155K on it. never lost 1 drop of oil.
Nice, thats super low miles for what these things can go!
Give me the price!
How much your asking price
We're not selling it haha, we'll drive it till it dies
Is she for sale?
I'm afraid not, we'll keep this truck until it literally falls apart haha

Pry just the front seat honestly, a booster seat may fit in the back but it'd still be tight
Most basic one
