I've binged different backyard ultra docus on UA-cam over the last few days. This one might be my favorite. Beautifully done. Congrats to all the runners. Simply amazing!
There’s something special about doing something that most people can’t even imagine doing. We’re blessed to be able to push our limits and truly see what we’re capable of.
One more thing: this video was absolutely beautiful. I love the wide format! Most running vids just can't bring the wilderness locations into my home. Great editing. And the interviews weren't canned, I really felt like I got to know people. This should be winning awards.
Thank you Marco, Jen, Michael, Jon, Margie, Simon, Phil, Felix, Graeme, Astrid and all the Ultra Series family that put together such an amazing event that is captured in this documentary. It is bloody amazing to see our adventures come to life on the screen. Thanks for sharing the ride.
this is the best trail running doc I've seen in a while. The camera work, the edit, the pace, this is exactly what I would want from another videographer
@@TrailRunningZen Marco just put out our next doco last night. Would love you to have a check out if you get a spare 30 minutes. ua-cam.com/video/-7xPfpxquOA/v-deo.html
Such a cool concept, makes me wish I had kept up my running. I always loved the wacky times at meets and especially the woods romping, the spirit is alive!
This was absolutely sensational. I found this because I just signed up for my first backyard ultra in October. I’m now more excited than nervous. Thank you for creating this. Hopefully I can capture something half as good
Completely agree! It is such a fascinating concept to watch and witness unfold, to see who allows their minds to take them where. Madness that has us all hooked!!
What an amazing doco. Such a great local story to tell, absolutely inspiring event ....and the runners, wow, what strength. Massive kudos to the person/ team who shot and edited this, it’s done with such care to the story, and what I’d assume were also hard conditions to shot in. Amazing work, you should be extremely proud of this ❤️
Thank you Bruce. It was actually an honour to be given keys to the USWA community and share their story. Can't thank Shaun, his team and the runners enough for the opportunity. So, thank-you Shaun and co :)
Congratulations!! And me just Strictly natural food I ran until now for the year 2020 only, many ultra marathons races register in duv ultra marathons statistics many thousands! miles!! 😊😊and I have to run one more race 100km on December 2020..
All of you are inspirations. Honestly I couldn't find a better way to get inspired unless I witnessed an event like this in person or met some of you. maybe someday I'll participate in an event like this. I really need to figure out kilometers though if I'm going to get into ultra running.
Wonderful video. Unless Birdy has some changed rules, the only thing missing (IMHO) is the fact that Michael HAD to finish the 40th lap. If he had failed, then there would be no winner, there is no sharing of victory in backyard ultra... That one lap is so important!
They don't measure the time to cover a certain distance other than the 4.2 miles every hour. You can go as slow as you want, but if you don't get in within the hour you're out. And you have to think, if you go so slowly that you get in at 58 minutes then you have to immediately line up to go again.
I'm by no means an ultra runner, even calling myself a runner would be wrong. But in this particular race, would a game plan be to run each lap from the get go in around 55 minutes so it's just constant running and no break (Common theme seems to be the breaks being the killer)
Personal preference really. It depends on what you want to do. Friend of mine has 2 x 100mi BYU performances running 32-40min yards (loops); I prefer to average more like 50min, with a slightly quicker one where needed.
When they got to the bit when they said about being freezing cold one minute and boiling Hot the next I shouted out 'welcome to the menopause brother ', sorry couldn't help it 😂
How can you NOT carry an extra headlamp + batteries on a night race ? A terrible oversight for a DNF. I feel sorry for him, but carrying an extra is a no-brainer. Things break, short out, or just go bonkers, so you always have a backup just in case.
I guess because you come back to the start every 6.7k, this is something you would hope you would identify as going flat in the lap prior? Maybe it just failed too though. A bit harder for Sim as his sight may not identify things dimming as such so you probably make a valid point here certainly in this case.

Thanks mate. There's some rippers out there, but we agree that this is definitely up there with the best.
We've just released another backyard ultra doco on our sister event just yesterday. Would love your thoughts. ua-cam.com/video/-7xPfpxquOA/v-deo.html
That's great! I'm going to watch it right away!
But why?

Completely agree mate.
Amazing bit of film. Beautifully done.

thank you Susan!
Whole heartedly agree Susan. The ability to bring these runners to our living room has been such a skill Marco has brought to us. Love your words.
Totally agree!
Great documentary, awesome job by all the competitors!

Shaun, this needs to go on Netflix for the world to see.
The world can watch it just fine right here, for free. Thx
This is my tribe. Just add Marco and you get this awesome doco. And all those running shots, 😮incredible work.
I'm working my way up toy first marathon this stuff is my inspiration. If people can do 240+ I can do 26.2
funnily that 26.2 is more difficult than backyard haha but backyard can be a lot of fun, teaches you about run management.
Such a cool concept, makes me wish I had kept up my running. I always loved the wacky times at meets and especially the woods romping, the spirit is alive!
What a great video! Made me cry! Great motivation leading up to my first ultra.
thanks Andres 😊
Great to hear you got some inspiration from it Andres!

Amazing! Incredible!

Thanks Maxyshadow
Great video! Really enjoyed that! Well done to all of the runners!
thank you Chuck!
Great film about the nature of running and perseverance. Interesting to see who it is that’s body breaks or mind.

Great movie, really well done
Anyone doing ultra is special. How you define special is the big question.
Special only in case reach the highest age limit abt 120?..
MORE OF THIS PLEASEEEEEEE
An excellent doco.
Thanks Bryan. Pretty amazing how it was all brought together.
So inspiring 🙏

‘Thanks for pushing me man’ 🙂🤘
what its all about :)
One can only go as far (plus 1 lap) than the assist. What an awesome format.
Inspiring
Stoked this moved you mate.
Great video! Loved the format... But if most get a DNF wooden spoon, what did the winner get? Besides ultimate glory. Didn't see that...?
Besides ULTIMATE glory?! I did ask him what would make it worth all the effort...
They don't measure the time, right? So, why not just go as slow and relaxed as possible?
Max 1 hour for 1 lap
They don't measure the time to cover a certain distance other than the 4.2 miles every hour. You can go as slow as you want, but if you don't get in within the hour you're out. And you have to think, if you go so slowly that you get in at 58 minutes then you have to immediately line up to go again.

You're always in first place in a Backyard until you aren't.
Is anyone able to help identify the song that starts playing at 7:20?

At what pace do they run?
I know that sounds bad but I am usually not inspired by women runners... 14:50 hyped me so much, beast
And another one at 26:00 lol... Beast
Wow you can tell by the mental baggage runners carry.
Not much negative energy between players
108 💀
Running 80 k isn’t normal my guy
Dude looks like he hasn’t even started maybe if I had epo I could do 2 laps and this guys like yeah 40 no biggy
3:00 in and already a negative feminist energy
What is wrong with u?
" no one pushes the guys " .... wont even . 😮
