PLEASE, I need a rank list because I thought I would love the nun, went to see it in the theaters and it’s the ONLY movie I’ve ever fallen asleep to at the movies
People love A24 because it's a company that provides original, unique, unconventional films that allow complete creative freedom to the directors and don't let studio interference taint their visions. They know the films are not gonna be for everyone and I certainly don't like all their movies but I can respect a bold, polarizing piece of art--it's exciting to check out their films because they're so refreshing, even if they don't deliver. My unpopular horror opinion? Scream 4 is the best one in the franchise IMO (takes it even further than the first)
I agree! I remember watching it for the first time and feeling meh about it but I rewatched them all and Scream 4 is so so good! Like it was nice to actually get a little depth to the characters aside from the main 3 you know?
@Tommy Ross. I disagree with A24 providing unique and unconventional films, I think those films are highly overrated and are trying way too hard to copy the stylish and sophisticated late 60’s and 70’s masterpiece Horrors of Don’t Look Now, Rosemary’s Baby and the like, and falling flat on their asses. You want unique and unconventional, try watching a 70’s or early 80’s Dario Argento movie, try watching Cube from 1997, try watching a David Lynch film. Because that’s unique and unconventional, not films like Hereditary or The Witch that critics on Rotten Tomatoes gush over.
For me with a24, the reason I respect it so much is because it's a studio that allows filmmakers to make the movies they want. Most studios try to get too involved in what they think the audience will like and a filmmaker's vision is lost along the way. Of course, they aren't going to be perfect movies every time, but we get to see exactly what the director's vision was for the movie. That is so inspiring because I eventually want to start making my own movies and would love the freedom to do so.
The thing is, they had nothing to do with the production of most of their films. They just purchase the distribution rights for them. "The Room," "Ex Machina" and "The Witch" were not among those not actually made by them. Distribution is their specialty.
I think A24 should be praised because, love or hate their movies, they are one of the only reasonably ‘mainstream’ studios that have been continuously giving a platform to original ideas. Blumhouse is definitely more cynical and tends to churn out a lot of crap purely to make $. As for the point about trigger warnings; unfortunately they could give away spoilers in regards to the film, especially for people that like to go in blind. Without sounding callous, I think it’s better that people check out ‘Does the Dog Die’ first if they are going to be triggered by something.
I agree with you because then they'd have to put them for every type of movie because everyone who has been triggered will have lots of different things that might trigger them. I think that site could be a great resource for someone that's easily triggered. I know I'd check it out to warn someone if I was gonna see a movie that had a specific scene that might be a trigger for them
True. "The Lighthouse" was one of only about three or four movies released during that short stretch that featured a new guy joining up with an older, fairly insane guy in a lighthouse where eventually someone fucks a mermaid. I hear they're going to do a series of movies about a character named "Eddie Ruger" who has shears on his fingers and kills teens in their sleep but, get this, he does it while wearing a bowler hat! :)
There is definitely a way to give trigger warnings that are general enough to not cause spoilers.... I'm pretty sure most people haven't heard of "Does the Dog Die", and the name of the site is kind of unfortunate. It's clever, but anyone else thinking the type of person that could use trigger warnings might be turned off by the name of it if they hear about it without any context given? lol, just sayin'... I'm not sure the owner(s) of the site thought that one through :)
I think she was specifically alluding to SA as one of the most common triggers. I think there are many horror movies out there that include a horrific SA scene that wasn't a plot driver at all (e.g. The Hills Have Eyes). There are some movies that I'll never watch because I know that the entire plot is about sexual violence, but some have snuck up on me. I'm getting better with things as time goes by, but I used to go into full-body shutdown mode if I wasn't expecting the scene and it triggered me. It took me a long time to realise that Does the Dog Die contained a lot of triggers (not just animal ones), but it is good.
I think most people would agree with you about horror TV shows. TV shows in general are going the way of the dinosaur and most of the horror movie based shows that have sprung up in the last 10 years are all cancelled.
My issue with TV Horror is that is not really horror... is more like a prolonged drama with some horror elements in it... that serve the story more than the Horror genre itself
I wouldn't agree that shows are "going the way of the dinosaur" in general. Yes they're are more shows than ever, which means there are probably more bad shows than ever, but there are also so many shows being made with amazing quality and higher budgets than ever before. I suppose the good shows tend to be the "shorter" ones though, as in like only one season, where the entire storyline is made to consist within it, usually appearing on a streaming network with no commercials. So I guess they aren't necessarily "tv shows" in the conventional meaning. I can definitely see the point of view where seasonal shows are maybe becoming less popular, especially if they are actually on "tv". However, when I look at the shows I enjoy now, and compare them with shows I loved years ago (and still love for nostalgia purposes), the more recent shows are often far better on a technical level.
I think it's just hard to make a well paced and effective horror show. I've only seen a handful of series (Buffy, American horror story) and a lot of them run into an issue where padding is added to prolong the story which results in filler episodes. Rarely have I seen a horror TV show where every episode mattered.
I think what you said about A24 is what makes me appreciate them. They seem to actually be willing to take a chance to make unusual stuff. So a lot of it won't work for a lot of people but when they make something you love you're going to really love it and it's going to be something pretty different to the norm. Maybe. I don't know. I mentioned Saint Maud on your last video which I think is A24 and that's incredible. I found it very triggering though. Not sure for what specifically. Just felt very lonely and hopeless after it. Almost don't want to see it again. Fun!
Yeah, it's actually encouraging me to check out some movies she's suggested, because I can't handle horror movies like I used to... but I didn't realize some movies I watch are still considered horror. I'll keep an eye out on this channel, but I'm going to look more into the more tame horror movies and see if anyone has accurate lists of psychological horror movies... or at least the most tame ones. I just can't handle the adrenaline rushes for a variety reasons, I dunno if it's because my anxiety has gotten worse or if it's just normal as we get older.
The Haunting of Hill House/Bly Manor ARE SO DANG GOOD. As for AHS, I haven't loved every season, I even hate a couple, but I think I'll still watch every season because there isn't anything else like it and I like the overall flair and tones of the show. I just probably won't ever watch it when airing.
I saw the House of Wax remake opening night, and when Paris got it through the head, my theater (NJ) gave a standing ovation and cheered. A theatre going experience that I fondly remember lol.
@@StogeBuyerMike Eh, I get the tendency of thinking of Paris as just a wealthy brat, but there is the thinking now that she has actually been through some shit kinda like Britney Spears has been... on one hand, I realize she has all the resources in the world to get over it, on the other society in general really needs a hard look at how eager we are to tear women down. I'm torn about it, though, because rich women regardless of race, sexuality, etc. do use sexism as a tool for not being called out on things, primarily celebs/politicians. I still think we should at least think twice before cheering on some of the things we do, myself included. But maybe it isn't that deep I guess, just a thought.
@@NickaLah Paris is also a lot smarter than she pretends to be, and she cares about a lot of important shit. She's a good person. People love seeing her get fucked up cuz "haha rich girl bad."
Channel Zero is a genuinely GREAT horror anthology series. It’s everything AHS wants to be (unpopular opinion). And I think you’ll definitely enjoy it!!
Hannibal was pretty good. Just finished it. The actor playing Hannibal did a great job at making the character his own and not living in the shadow of Anthony Hopkins.
Oh man...The Lighthouse was my favorite horror movie last year. The slow-pacing and dialogue heavy scenes are part of what makes it so great for me. Just watching 2 guys push each others' buttons until they break was soooooo fun. I respect people's opinion who don't like it as much as me, though. It's not for everyone. 🙂
I loved The Lighthouse too! It was beautiful, there was never a dull moment, and it disturbed me for days. There’s so much to analyze about it, and the acting was so so good. But yeah, not for everyone.
@@federicomiyagi8366 Yes. That was one of the ones I saw. The Lighthouse was fine, but as more of the better-done films become more atmospheric, ya kind of long for one where they occasionally pepper a little bit of something to happen that isn't pretty much just happening inside the characters' own heads.
@@cobbler88 I know what you mean and that is why I loved cold skin and I want to see the other movie with the same plot if I am not wrong Gerard Butler is in it
Agree with all of them except “The Conjuring”. TOTALLY see where you’re coming from. But I would refer to your own, previous rule: “A movie doesn’t have to be great to be good.” There are a number of movies in the series that I would agree, are “technically” shit haha, but I can watch them over and over and enjoy them. Keep up the great work. Thank you
A recent unpopular opinion: The Haunting of Bly Manor wasn’t awful just because it wasn’t as emotionally intense as Hill House. I actually think going in a more subtle direction was necessary so it wouldn’t be repetitive. Hill House was great because it was emotionally intense while being terrifying. And to me, the calmer atmosphere made the emotional trauma of watching characters losing themselves in Bly Manor and what follows them afterwards was effective for me. Maybe that’s because one of my greatest fears is losing my memory, but I still found it effective and moving But regardless, i feel like people got mad because Bly Manor wasn’t the same as Hill House and I would’ve hated it being repetitive for the same reasons I hate AHS past season 3. That and the nonlinear story telling is the best aspect of the series for me anyway, so I’m not mad
I totally agree. I would not have liked bly manor nearly as much if it was an exact copy of hill house. Like if I wanted that I would just watch hill house again. Bly manor was intense in some parts and I love that it wasn’t trying to be a horror movie where everything needed to scare you it was more to unsettle you and make you wonder what was going on with these characters half the time. Like are they losing their minds or is the house messing with them?
@@HoneyBeeForMe exactly! Just because it wasn’t as scary as Hill House (I still have nightmares about the storm episode) doesn’t mean it isn’t a compelling story with characters I was invested in. I cried about Hannah for half an hour, exploring characters is what makes the series great, not just scares 🖤
The emotional climax of Bly Manor was so, so much more powerful to me than Hill House. Hill House has the more tight story, it is scarier and has an overall better plot. But Bly had more characters I loved. Dani, Jamie, Hannah, Owen, Flora, Rebecca- all amazing. In Hill House, I only really got invested in Theo, Luke and Nell.
Huge agree, and bly manor wasnt overall as scary as hill house but for ne personally it was a lot more effective. I also feel like if people werent comparing it to hill house it would be way more loved than it is rn
Well if it wasn't released in October or if I watched it after Halloween I maybe would've appreciated it more for what it is. But clearly I was hyped up for another terrifying Hill House series leading to Halloween so was kinda disappointed.
I would have greatly appreciated a trigger warning in I Spit on Your Grave. Just to look away for that scene, I get enough flashbacks without piling on, and I will definitely check out that website
In the Netherlands every show or movie is accompanied by these symbols. Like AL (for 'All Ages') and then 6+ and 12+ and 16+ and then comes a spider for scary stuff, a needle for drugs, a group of silhouettes for discrimination, a fist for violence, four feet for sex etc. etc.
I will back you up on the trigger warning thing. It needs to be there. I had a family member commit suicide by shooting himself and I just do NOT want to see something like that in a movie.
Heck YES on the trigger warnings. I've vetted several movies for myself and others trying to determine if it could be enjoyed. While yes, horror movies can and should be controversial, not everyone benefits from seeing them. I can't and won't watch explicit scenes of sexual assault and I've had to back out of movies real fast cause I didn't know the movie contained it.
"They should've stopped at ten" Well, there are only nine AHS seasons, so far. 😂 But it's already renewed for three or four more seasons, i think + a spin-off, so you're not wrong. I think "Slasher" is a pretty decent horror tv show and the pacing is also alright, because it's only 8 episodes per season.
I wish that would continue. I started watching it but never finished it because they took it down just when I was watching it. Wish they'd bring it back.
Hannibal has really great pacing, keeps you on the edge of your seat, beautifully shot, the character dynamics are incredible and honestly one of the best shows I've ever watched and I'm not a fan of horror/gore in general
I can’t thank you enough for the trigger warning website, i have an extreme fear of vomiting & i’ve stopped watching movies with my family (even though it’s one of my favorite things to do) cause i’m scared it will have a scene like that. This is very helpful thank you🥺🤍
The Terror (series 1) was really good as a series, but I'm not sure it's very... horror-y if that makes sense, loved Raised By Wolves! Tangentially.. Chernobyl, but again.. not very horror-y
Horror is the one place trigger warning are needed. There's a difference between seeing something in a drama treated with some respect and integrity. But if it's in a horror it's there for shock and some of us just don't need to see that stuff portrayed in a disrespectful way.
Scream Queens, for me, is the perfect mix of a “mocumentary” and horror. It’s the secret love child of Glee and AHS, and I think that’s beautiful. In my opinion, it’s underrated; it’s not supposed to be taken seriously and that’s what I love about it!
Sarah, video idea. Could you make a video detailing your favorite horror stories from the No Sleep Podcast? I enjoyed The Dentist one as well as Mother Maggie's!
i think trigger warnings are important but if u check the imdb parent guide on movies it talks about the kind of violence and other things in the movie that make it rated R or PG-13 or whatever. i usually read that before a movie to know what im getting into
On the topic of trigger warning: IMDB has a section under 'More' called "Parents Guide" on movies where you can see if said movie you want to watch has anything that could be harmful or triggering.
I have to totally agree on the trigger warning front, I went into The Babadook after watching all the trailers etc & was totally not prepared for the reality of it as it totally hit way to close to home. Definitely don't want anyone to end up in that position. Thank you for talking about this!.
Some of my favourite horror shows The purge: this show kept the pace up and remained enjoyable throughout Scream: this was better than most of the movies Scream queens: it's a gem Ash vs the evil dead: absolutely hilarious Stranger things: duh Haunting of hill house: also duh
my top unpopular opinion would be that found footage is the best horror subgenre (okay maybe not the best but it’s my personal favourite) as found footage tends to feel the most real and that makes it so much scarier
I mean…I personally could have done without the gory horse death and I often find animal abuse/depictions extremely overused in movies, but that’s simply an opinion and my one single issue with the movie. Otherwise I’ve always liked it and still think it holds up nearly two decades later.
I’m SO glad you said that you hated The Lighthouse!! I was looking forward to watching that movie for the longest time and was extremely disappointed. I thought that it was extremely pretentious, as well 😣
I haven't seen if anyone has mentioned it yet, and it's very much horror comedy (with not much horror) but Santa Clarita Diet is one of my favorite shows and I'm still so mad it got cancelled.
American Horror Story was interesting at first. Lost my interest for a while, then they released one of the best seasons of any horror show ever with Roanoke. Then found its way right back into suckland with the following season. My wife still enjoys it, so I get stuck watching some as well. But if it went away entirely, I wouldn't notice.
I believe there should be a way to see trigger warning stuff before you buy a ticket or click play. Like a info button on the screen. That way you can see the warnings if you want to and those who don't want to be spoiled don't have to. I know IMDB does a parental guide on each movie that basically tells what happens in a movie so people can do that now if they want to not be triggered but it doesn't seem like it'd be too hard to add a little info button to screens
I had no idea that doesthedogdie inclues so many trigger categories now! I've been relying on unconsentingmedia & the IMDb parents' guide to help me figure out if a movie may not be for me, & the latter can often present unwanted spoilers if I find out it's a movie that I can handle. So thank you for sharing that crucial information so I can get back to enjoying movies & shows that turn out not to contain scenes that are sensitive to me! :D
An oldie but a goodie for horror TV series, and it shouldn’t get boring because each episode is like it’s own mini-film by a horror director - Masters of Horror. It’s fantastic. Some of the directors showed some of their best work on that show.
i completely agree that trigger warnings should be implemented, in all genres of film honestly! i’ve seen many people argue that tw’s could be spoilers for movies, but you don’t have to go into descriptive detail to say that there are certain types of disturbing content in something. and honestly, i’d rather be slightly spoiled than unknowingly go into a movie that’s going to make me have a panic attack.
If those were the two alternatives, then I’d agree with you, but most people watching movies have access to the internet, and I think one standardized database (similar to the current rating system) that is referenced before the movie and perhaps that even comes with a QR code linked directly to the movies page both on the box and before the studio credits achieves what both “sides” want.
@@thrawncaedusl717 I actually completely agree with you. I don’t think that there needs to be text before the title screen that explicitly says “trigger warning: ......”. I just think that in some part of the marketing before the movie is released that it should be stated if it, as an example, has sexual assault in it, whether that be in an updated rating system (because frankly ours is incredibly inaccurate in comparison to a lot of countries), or be in a standardized database like you’ve suggested. I just don’t think that people who’ve had a traumatic experience (and there are more people out there than some may think) who are triggered by certain content that’s often used for shock value in horror, should have to hunt through reviews in hopes that someone mentions that a movie has said content, when it would be far easier if it were to be incorporated into the movie marketing itself.
So interesting that you said this about trigger warnings! Just today, I watched Rust Creek on Netflix and I asked the friend who recommended it to me if it had rape in it. He didn't remember, and that was fine, but I explained to him that I can handle that sort of violence a lot better if I know to expect it. Doesn't make it fun, and I hate it being thrown in for gratuitous purposes, but a lot of time it propels the story and I'd just like to be prepared. So thank you for this. (btw, no rape in Rust Creek.)
I definitely agree about the trigger warning thing, after going into Gerald's Game blind I definitely did not expect the abuse plot with her father and it was very unsettling even for a horror movie, would have loved to have a warning before...
As much as I love that movie I strongly agree, I didnt go in blind and I was still disturbed by that movie. When I recommend it I also end the recommendation with just saying huge trigger warning for the entire movie and if I need to go more in depth I can.
I love watching your horror videos, even though I completely disagree with you sometimes (The Lighthouse, trigger warnings, teen horror 😜) I still really enjoy hearing your opinions and how you explain them. It’s kinda like a cozy horror chat. ☕️🔪🩸🖤
I think the amount of Conjuring movies being made is a bit overboard and an obvious cash grab. The first couple were so good and I just think that warner bros should try and make something new instead of remaking the same film.
@@doobofbattle9472 The Nun and La Llorona were awful. I actually thought Annabelle Comes Home was alright and pretty scary, better than the first Annabelle but not better than Annabelle: Creation. So I guess Comes Home was a good step forward.
A24 definitely owes a lot of its credit to their marketing and advertising. I've only seen a handful of A24 movies and while I do love most of them, I still find myself buying their shirts mainly because of the image they create around their company. Amazing branding doesn't always equate to amazing art!
I agree about the trigger warnings, thank you for saying that. I have PTSD and I am SUCH a horror buff but I’m not trying to completely shut down when I’m watching a movie. That’s not entertaining or fun.
On the trigger warning topic, I am someone who has faced trauma that is often featured in movies. For me, id like to know its gonna happen and to give my consent. Lol kind of funny that people want to take the warning or consent screen away for people like me who's consent was not taken into consideration.
@@sullygroot924 Not necessarily. I've had panic attacks (convulsions) after seeing a rape scene. I am sure the intention of the artist isn't to inflict real trauma on someone. I would like to know if there is a rape scene in a movie. That way I can lend my INFORMED consent.
Re: Trigger warnings. A couple of years ago, I'd have been the guy to say "It's horror, etc." but then, in a very short gap, I lost both my grandparents. I go into movies blind and heard that "Relic" was a great one. Both of my grandparents were suffering from dementia in the end. I watched (some of) it too soon. It upset me in all the wrong ways. Now I get it. A little warning definitely wouldn't hurt.
I honestly always check IMDB’s “parental advisory” for triggers. I feel this section usually has big parts spoiled but still allows me to understand if it’s within my realm of what I can handle in a horror movie. However doesthedogdie is AMAZING
I like most a24 movies! I agree that they are bound to make some bad ones, and they for sure have. But I LOVE artsy fartsy films. The plot can be weak, but if the technical aspects are good I'll still LOVE the film.
Love your comments on triggers. One for me is pets unnecessarily being killed, more specifically cats. 1 BR was great up until the kitchen scene, couldn't get passed that. So they've been doing that with everyone who snuck pets in? WTF? Why do horror movies have to kill pets?
Lovecraft country is incredible! It felt like each episode was inspired by a different genre of film, (horror, romance, sci-fi, adventure, etc) but it all works together so well!
I would be surprised about you not liking The Lighthouse, but honestly, I get it. I like artsy stuff like that because I'm a stage actor, and you can only do so much with a script before going super artsy to differentiate your production. I feel like The Lighthouse does that
I agree completely about the haunting of my Manor and it being a romantic drama. Up until episode 8. Episode 8 changed the entire season! Flipped it from a sad love story to a horror for me at least! Loved it!
I would LOVE seeing you do a monthly wrap up on Letterboxd where you talk about all the movies you saw in the month. It would be so cool to see mini reviews/your reactions to movies without you having to do a whole video on each movie. Great video btw!
i started watching the hannibal tv show and it's great!!! only half way through the 2nd season but i think the cases and killers they investigate are super unique and interesting. i definitely think it's worth a watch and i'd love to hear your thoughts on it!!!
Did you ever watch SyFy's Channel Zero? I consider it what AHS wanted to be. I've watched every season of AHS, but honestly have truly enjoyed may 3 seasons.
I think we all know what specific trigger you’re referring to. I think sexual violence, trauma and assaults are definitely exploited in the horror genre. There are so many shows and movies that I would love to watch but can’t enjoy bc they feel the need to include sexual violence and trauma. I’m no prude but watching a woman (or anyone) be graphically sexual assaulted and calling it “entertainment” just makes me feel sick.
i gasped when you said you didnt like the lighthouse 😂 totally understandable, though! i personally loved it, i actually thought it was almost a parody on pretentiousness. i watched it with friends and it was just so absurd we had a great time laughing through it. also i agree horror needs a certain level of trigger warnings! some movies already open with a "warning" and all video games list semi-specific warnings on the packaging, so it's really not a stretch to incorporate!
I think Ratched wasn't too horrible? (However... the deeply flawed portrayal of DID and a few minor other things... dang) Can't we have Sarah Paulson and Jessica Lange team up with Angela Bassett and Kathy Bates and create something turly horrifying? And I meant that in the best way possible xD
I do highly agree that you should check out Hannibal. I watched it with my family earlier this year and thought it was great. Though the dialog starts getting a bit like they fed a thesaurus to a computer later in the shows life
@@brandon17760 yes, it is- BUT, for some people it could have led to SEVERE mental consequences as it's not really a thing you would expect to see in that movie, since the clown only targets children in the first one
Marianne on Netflix is my favorite horror tv show I've ever watched. I enjoyed it more than Hill House. Would love to hear your thoughts if you've seen it!
I like videos like these because people get to disagree but can still talk about it. Like I disagree that A24 is overhyped, I appreciate they aren’t afraid to do things that are risky or strange or “too artsy” whereas I feel like other production houses especially for horror play it safe too much. They don’t want to do anything too out there. I know Sarah also loves the American Ring remake and I personally hate American remakes of foreign horror films because they feel like watered down less scary crappy versions of the original and people should just watch the original rather than remaking a Japanese film with white people lmao. 😂 BUT! I still love watching Sarah’s horror channel and seeing other people’s opinions.
The horror tv show Slasher is actually pretty good. Each season is a new storyline and I genuinely have loved each. Looking forward to a potential 4th season.
Us was the most disappointing horror film in the last few years. Comedy in all the wrong places, a blunt, one-dimensional political message and the AWFUL twist. Doesn't hold a candle to Get Out.
I’d rather spoil a movie a tiny bit for someone by giving them a trigger warning. One example is Midsommar, that opener was rough. For me, one movie that almost did me in was We Need to Talk About Kevin. I should’ve looked it up but I didn’t. It didn’t cause a panic attack for me, but I won’t watch it again.
"The Conjuring Universe..I'm tired..." LMFAO this cracked me up. Please do tier list for that franchise. I would love to see that.
I actually wouldn't mind seeing that either and BTw I'd love to see you do the Ring too.

Ok a little unrelated but who remember Scream Queens, the reality show about the search for an actress for Saw?

OMG WHAT ARE YOU DOING HERE ?!?! my two favourite youtubers interacting wow
There are still quite a few horror shows that are still going and going strong. Tv shows are far from going the way of the dinosaur.
Would love to see a tier on “A24” movies or the conjuring franchise
Same here. I've pretty-much hated every one I've seen, so I'm curious as to which ones she'd consider good.
Fun!
The Conjuring Universe should of just stayed focused on The Warrens
Except I love The Nun. Have you seen it, it’s really good.
@@damattice23 That's the only one I haven't gotten the chance to yet

Thank you for saying that you don't need to like every aspect of horror to be a huge horror fan!! That's something a lot of people don't get
Yeah, it's actually encouraging me to check out some movies she's suggested, because I can't handle horror movies like I used to... but I didn't realize some movies I watch are still considered horror.
You're 100% correct in my opinion!!
i only liked Murder House and Asylum.. the rest were trash.
House of Wax and Sorority Row are some of the best remakes of the 2000s. I love that trash.
I saw the House of Wax remake opening night, and when Paris got it through the head, my theater (NJ) gave a standing ovation and cheered. A theatre going experience that I fondly remember lol.
Any movie where Paris Hilton dies is an awesome movie. Lol
Yes! I loved Candle Cove - I cant stop thinking about it, it freaked me out so much!! In that good way. Also the first season of Terror!

And it was one of only 3 or 4 movies released during that short stretch with basically the same plot and eventual fucking of the mermaid. :)
@@cobbler88 yeah I saw the movie cold skin which was realized before about two guys a mermaid and killer mermaids and it was actually better
Thank you
I don’t know what’s so wrong with people loving horror and having boundaries of what they can and can’t sit through. It’s so ridiculous.
Maybe that’s because one of my greatest fears is losing my memory, but I still found it effective and moving
But regardless, i feel like people got mad because Bly Manor wasn’t the same as Hill House and I would’ve hated it being repetitive for the same reasons I hate AHS past season 3.
I love these type of videos,I love to hear peoples’ different opinions. How boring would it be if everyone had the same ones?!
Not if one of the opinions our hive mind shared was "It's not boring that we all have the same opinions."
Lol same
Oh I know I like these vids too and especially when the person making the video is so respectful about it.
I would have greatly appreciated a trigger warning in I Spit on Your Grave. Just to look away for that scene, I get enough flashbacks without piling on, and I will definitely check out that website
Something like the Hannibal tv series is beautiful and wish there was more.
I think movie ratings can be used as a sort of “trigger warning.” They definitely don’t specify which some movies could DEFINITELY use a warning haha
I agree I think movie ratings need a serious update and revision in general
parents guides!
In the Netherlands every show or movie is accompanied by these symbols. Like AL (for 'All Ages') and then 6+ and 12+ and 16+ and then comes a spider for scary stuff, a needle for drugs, a group of silhouettes for discrimination, a fist for violence, four feet for sex etc. etc.
@@Nexils oh that’s defs a way better system
"gore is entertaining."
I can't and won't watch explicit scenes of sexual assault and I've had to back out of movies real fast cause I didn't know the movie contained it.
if you need a trigger warning, you shouldn't be watching movies in the first place.
The Exorcist season 1 was really good. The pacing was just as slow as the movie and it really worked.
Hannibal is my favorite horror tv show. I was so sad when it got canceled after three seasons.
Unpopular opinion, Rob Zombie’s movies are not that good and are honestly just sort of a trashy, screaming mess. I HATED his Halloween remakes.
That's not really that an unpopular opinion. I know quite a few people who hate most if not all of his films.
I never like horror TV shows but Marianne on Netflix is one of the best things ive ever seen
Omg yes why dont more people talk about Marianne??!!
Yeah that show was so good!
"They should've stopped at ten"
Well, there are only nine AHS seasons, so far. 😂 But it's already renewed for three or four more seasons, i think + a spin-off, so you're not wrong.
I think "Slasher" is a pretty decent horror tv show and the pacing is also alright, because it's only 8 episodes per season.
I enjoyed Slasher, I think Sarah would too
Slasher is really good! A bit cheesy but still very enjoyable and suspenseful. Season 1 is okay, but 2 and 3 are really great!
I can't recommend Hannibal enough! I think you'd really enjoy it, it was also so cinematic that it really felt like a franchise
Hannibal is so good, my fave tv show of all time.
Masters Of Horror is a show with episodes (kinda mini films) directed by various horror directors. It’s olderish (mid 2000s), but good.
I loved that show I wish they'd bring it back.
Spirals still coming :) Looks like a different take so I'm pretty excited. Thanks for sharing Sarah.
you know what, these opinions were truly unpopular and i respect that
The French horror series “Marianne” was very good, I thought.
I wish that would continue. I started watching it but never finished it because they took it down just when I was watching it. Wish they'd bring it back.
It was exceptional. I'm upset there won't be a second season.
@@mayzo51184 It is on Netflix now, the US version. I use a VPN and it is also on the French location.

This is very helpful thank you🥺🤍
You are not alone.
Never ever watch Stand by Me
You should watch Channel Zero. It's a really good anthology horror show!
Second this as well. Own all seasons.
The Terror (series 1) was really good as a series, but I'm not sure it's very... horror-y if that makes sense, loved Raised By Wolves!
Tangentially.. Chernobyl, but again.. not very horror-y
Oh I LOVED The Terror.
Horror is the one place trigger warning are needed. There's a difference between seeing something in a drama treated with some respect and integrity. But if it's in a horror it's there for shock and some of us just don't need to see that stuff portrayed in a disrespectful way.
it’s a horror comedy but Scream Queens is a gift honestly
Thats a good one!
Ryan Murphy recently confirmed he's working on another season
Scream Queens, for me, is the perfect mix of a “mocumentary” and horror. It’s the secret love child of Glee and AHS, and I think that’s beautiful. In my opinion, it’s underrated; it’s not supposed to be taken seriously and that’s what I love about it!
Scream Queens is a gem, one of my fav shows ever 😔
I want to like it so bad but I personally can’t stand Emma Roberts after hearing some of the horrible things she’s done.
Sarah, video idea. Could you make a video detailing your favorite horror stories from the No Sleep Podcast? I enjoyed The Dentist one as well as Mother Maggie's!
i think trigger warnings are important but if u check the imdb parent guide on movies it talks about the kind of violence and other things in the movie that make it rated R or PG-13 or whatever. i usually read that before a movie to know what im getting into
A big NO on trigger warnings. The rating should be trigger enough.
Some of my favourite horror shows
The purge: this show kept the pace up and remained enjoyable throughout
Scream: this was better than most of the movies
Scream queens: it's a gem
Ash vs the evil dead: absolutely hilarious
Stranger things: duh
Haunting of hill house: also duh
my top unpopular opinion would be that found footage is the best horror subgenre (okay maybe not the best but it’s my personal favourite) as found footage tends to feel the most real and that makes it so much scarier
literally tell me one bad thing about The Ring, i don’t see one 👀
How dare they leave us with that cliffhanger!!
I will NEVER get over them cancelling it, and on that cliffhanger!!
Imo Roanoke was the scariest season since Asylum. The ending sucked but other than that idk how people don’t appreciate it
The og Twilight zone was great, you should check that out.
A great horror tv show is Penny Dreadful! The setting and characters are great but not for those against period dramas.
I'm pretty sure you're going to fall in love with hannibal because it's more focused on psychological aspects then horror but it was so well done
Also, would you put shows like Penny Dreadful into the horror genre?
I think it falls into the Gothic subgenre
Hannibal!!! So good. Go in forgetting what you know about past books or movies and it so enjoyable.

Love your comments on triggers. One for me is pets unnecessarily being killed, more specifically cats. 1 BR was great up until the kitchen scene, couldn't get passed that. So they've been doing that with everyone who snuck pets in? WTF? Why do horror movies have to kill pets?

I would be surprised about you not liking The Lighthouse, but honestly, I get it. I like artsy stuff like that because I'm a stage actor, and you can only do so much with a script before going super artsy to differentiate your production. I feel like The Lighthouse does that
I agree completely about the haunting of my Manor and it being a romantic drama. Up until episode 8. Episode 8 changed the entire season! Flipped it from a sad love story to a horror for me at least! Loved it!
The Wolf Creek tv show was enjoyable since it was only 6 episodes and especially the second season felt like a 6 hour slasher. It’s on shudder.

Though the dialog starts getting a bit like they fed a thesaurus to a computer later in the shows life
I think a trigger warning should’ve been in it: chapter 2. That beginning assault seen was the worst.

Misplaced comedy ruined this movie for me. Very good otherwise to me
I really disliked Us. I thought it was wayyyyy over-hyped and have no idea why. From credits to the ending, I thought it was such bullshit lol. Blah.
