Well done Steve for talking to the fans and being open and honest. Sound journalism is the basis of your success Matt. Outstanding job.
Great pod as usual. Good for fans to have a real appreciation of the various local bodies involved and what their stance might be.
Steve came over as a less constrained, more open contributor than Tom tbh
who wouldnt i suppose we could ask
Excellent as always Matt
"I'm not a commercial expert, by any means" said the former CEO of Robin Hood Energy. You don't say.
Good interview Matt.
Brillient Steve. Amazing.
The only place for Forest fans. Great job Matt.
If Forest leave the city ground the club is DEAD
Some great interviews coming from this Chanel. Cheers guys!
Very good journalism from Matt. We’ve now heard from the club and council about this issue.
Top work Matt. Steve comes across really, really well - fair play.
Excellent questions Matt, really good podcast thank you.
Great interview again, it's an emotive subject involving the general public so it's inevitable that it will be played out in public, particularly if the clubs' underlying desire is to build a new stadium elsewhere in the area.
The council will affect all trade in the city centre and near the club with their greed and try to make amends with their money miss- management.... It'll be a huge blow to all traders.
youre deluded
Nice haircut Matt!-) another good cast that provides insight and information on what's currently going on, thanks
He seems a lot more open, honest and transparent that Tom
I think thhat 80% of us Reds want to stay there - but ONLY if it can become a 40,000 seater that we fully own. We have enough profile now to attract 35,000 Forest fans (if the prices are 'right') plus the Away support which could be another 3-4,000 Most games. I also think that we should have at least 1,000 Seats available to anyone on the day - first come, fist served. I personally think that this talk of 50,000 is too much. We might yet become a yo-yo club - you don't get 50,000 crowds in 2nd Division....unless we say it's £20 per ticket.
Agree, we could fill a 40,000 stadium every week, think 50,000 is overly optimistic.
I would rather have 40000 partizan fans than another 10000 tourists!
@@martinseagrave8408 Agreed. West Ham and Fulham have seats set aside to sell to visiting London Tourists. It doesn't help with the atmosphere.
Absolutely brilliant interview, great questions, well done Steve too for being as open as he can really (helps he is a lifelong fan). Expectional to have Cartledge yesterday and Steve today for both sides of the fence. Matt - turning into a political interviewer, not just sports!
The other side of the Trent sounds very interesting. But I would say expanding the City Ground, then moving is a non starter (other than the corner boxes and standing space). Makes zero financial sense and no chance Marinakis would do that, nor would I expect him to do that. Either The City Ground can be made into a 45k-50k capacity or we need to move. Hopefully logistically 45-50k can fit, and then I massively back staying. Just need to get it done. Interesting Notts County are installing undersoil heating this close season......
40k is enough imo but ith some great imaginative incentives such as VR seats taking us into the future. Also wayyy greener to redevelop not demolish
Been a fan since 1956
Well done Matt, you are interviewing the right people and asking questions that are relevant to the situation, there's balance here. Think Steve has been as open and honest as he could be. Fair play to him. However, his suggestion to spend X number of millions on increasing the capacity and then admitting they might still have to move from the site I found disconcerting. Perhaps needed to think this through, as you suggested why spend £100 M to than have to spend £500 M later. I'd have more sympathy with the City Council if they hadn't made a mess of a number of good intentioned but badly managed projects. If you've worked with the council they can be a very slow to react at a strategic/senior level. If Marankis has lost confidence in them ......
well done Matt , and impressed with Steve..Talks sense as a Forest fan too !
When I read some of the later comments -in at least one case a Reform UK /Tory openly political rallying cry, rather than a look at the picture from a neutrally sports perspective I despair!.When I saw that Matt was interviewing a local councillor, irrespective of political i was worried. However,he spoke openly, sensibly and the attacks on him and the broadcast said more about the detractors than the podcast .Btw ,as an 88 year old who has watched this club since 1944,I feel I can speak with more balance than most .I supported Forest when Notts County was the 'big' club, with star names like Lawton!
Forest are being asked to cover the Councils financial incompetence. Local Authorities are awful to deal with in business negotiations, they don't know the meaning of best value as cheapest price always wins.
Great job Matt
Your getting the hang of this Podcast malarkey Matt , another great guest 👊❤️

Excellent work Matt. I love this podcast more and more as it delves into the soul of this amazing club. Many thanks
with an owner trying to tear out that soul or at least doesnt really care about it
Where are you seeing that?
First time on and his mic is clearer than anyone that's ever been on or is continuously on the show...Bravo!...take note crew!

With the new haiŕcut Matt, your looking more and more like Eric bana in Chopper ...doing a unbelievable job with the podcast ...living in Ireland this makes me feel like I'm back in Beeston ...COYR
Its been a bit lonely lately defending the councils, in the sense that we do need defence against wealthy folks ego's in general and indeed developers themselves who are rarely noted for thir social causes. Hopefully this showed there is another perspective to it
What is clear is that, as I expect, the club is playing all the cards it has and all tactics to get the best deal. But the threat of moving is real, but fans should be eyes open that we would not move for at least 4-5 years if turbo speed with no blockers, so still that period to be at the City Ground, and hopefully by then we have hit the Brighton curve in year 5 back up and are playing European football, time for people to get their heads around the link of squad cost ratio and what a new stadium will do, and get more used to it (IF it comes to that as the City Ground can't be expanded to 45-50k).
all hyperbole, all it really will mean is higher player wages for a club hoping to be a top ten club, we can do that now if we focus on the managemnt of the playing side which has been a shambles under EM with managers and staff and signngs etc, kinda clueless in real football nouse
The owner wants 50,000 seater, it’s ok the council saying let’s get back around the table and the lease offer, but seriously what restrictions are in place from achieving this, can we expand the way we all want it too?
What about obtaining a bigger footprint at the City ground. What are the possibilities of getting compulsory purchase of the houses behind Brigford Stand?
I feel that 50k is a realistic target which used to be achievable in the 60’s. Failure to achieve that will mean the end of season tickets and for sales of tickets on a game per game basis to achieve the maximum for each seat every game
“You can’t sell a building or a plot of land for less than the valuation.” Erm yes you can. Unbelievable that the city council are consulting on closing libraries and community centres and yet here is a £10m freehold. Get a deal done!
Forest should not be paying a price for the freehold of The City Ground based on 'the financial situation' of the inept Labour controlled council.
The poor running of the council and wasteful use of taxpayer's money, should not fall to the feet of Nottingham Forest.
councils should stand up to bullies and forest should have paid the increase
True, but it has legal obligations to achieve best value for a publicly owned asset.
Love how Steve mentions the financial situation of the council. The boat clubs surely could be relocated further along the trent. We have a chairman who wants to invest, and as a club, Forest has contributed so much to the local economy. A resolution agreeable to both parties needs to be found.
nottingham has provided so much support for the club, its a wo way street, they also have the residents to considr, there aint 2 million forest attendees :)
Boat clubs and rivers go together, That's why they were there before 1898. Forest are their new neighbours. They should not be pushed out. The original redevelopment plan acknowledged this reality. If they don't want to move they shouldn't be made to. I don't think the City Council would want to be seen to be dictating an 'eviction'.
Forest must never leave City ground.
Sounds to me that we may have to move. The embankment land sounds exciting though
You ready to change the club crest then.
This needs to be done correctly at the first opportunity not build a stand and then have to spend another boat load of money at a later stage. It’s all very well the council say spend on a new stand first and then maybe look at another stadium at a later date, it’s not their money they are spending. Councils need to take away the red tape and stop trying it on. It got pushed into the public eye because the club got fed up with all the time being wasted.
Can't believe Steve missed the years after relegation in 1971 until 1977 in the old 2nd division, character building!! 😂
imm pretty sure we didnt get relegated in 1977 :) promoted maybe
@@PazLeBon Relegated '71
It’s just concrete and steel, however with Forest selling their best players, no work being done at the City Ground, and Forest giving up the opportunity to buy the freehold, it’s probably smoke and mirrors and nothing will happen.
I think this discussion are looking at the issues on a very narrow perspective. No big thinkers looking at the bigger picture here I’m afraid
unreal how retarded and backward the cklub are and all the hyperbole o a ground move. cant even appoint staff that last 2 years
still don't get what's happened to those plans unveiled to much fanfare in 2019? The only issue was the boat club wasn't it? What's happened to those plans?
I think Covid was mentioned as a major factor there.
George shelvey (gk) has been sacked by his new club, Dundalk, for racially abusing a referee!😮
I have been on ground when there was 59 thousand five hundred so why move
Safety Trev.
That would go against any records for City Ground attendances, the biggest attendance is 49,000 v Manure
@@Battleofnerves I was at that game, manure fans broke the gates down and loads poured in but I don't see how anyone can come up with an exact number, it could be anywhere over 50000, my own guess would be about 55000 as I've never been so crushed in any ground as that night.
Trevor Clark no you ain't son liar liar dirty pants on fire
There was one game I remember versus Celtic where it was rammed to the rafters and the low wall at the Bridgford end collapsed.
BTW Matt, I don't think it would do her any favours either having made such fundamental errors that can be edited out or re-recorded just before she releases the video rather than put out the official Nottinghamshire Footballing video for it only to contain a larger one and a smaller one as in Notts, without including the important Mid Sized one of Mansfield Town as that would be a rather glaring error and missing team from the video. She would probably get a lot of grief from people in Mansfield area and even beyond too. I just hope she is willing to amend the video before it's full release as it really wouldn't look good on her and all I am trying to do is help her save face. Please let her know Matt as this is important! Kindest regards, Mark Dermody from Arnold
Which ever way you look at it Forest need a new, world class, stadium. I don’t see any point in the dialog with the council, they are looking after themselves, as per. Unless the council give them the boat clubs and relocate the residents there will never be enough ground available so break away Forest.
other way around, its robin hood country and youre defending the wealthy bully
You want to sell the whole history of the club to plastics and the prawn sandwich brigade.

Spending Millions On Nice Hotels Don’t Seem To Be A Problem …..
How can Forest be seen as threating to move wen the council has to agree the Toton site they the council want money from the failed HS2 investment it seems
Precisely. It's the club playing an insincere game of PR and politics with the fans by portraying the City Council as the bad actor.
I think we need to move if we have to keep up
you are so useless you cant imgine keeping up with the bottomn ten in the league? get real
I sense that the club has reviewed all options and has decided that it needs a stadium with a capacity that is not possible at the CG site...unless it buys surrounding properties and land, which would be very expensive and an additional cost burden over and above the cost of the stadium itself. The numbers wouldn't add up. It wouldn't be economically viable. That presents two problems. Convincing the fans that it is necessary to move away and convincing the fans about the attractiveness of any proposed new location. This friction with NCC feels like the club trying to pin the blame for a move away on the City Council. Basically PR and politics and a bit of scapegoating. Marinakis should have more courage and simply come out and explain the hard economic realities to the fans. The club should buy the freehold to the CG and redevelop it with a club house for fans and an entertainment venue for revenue generating events (Take That et.c., et.c.). Toton would not work . I recommend the Ratcliffe-on-Soar Power Station site.
We need a new 50000 seater stadium what’s the problem just get on with it ffs
You want to leave City ground and the club sell it's soul
OLYMPIAKOS WIN A EUROPEAN TROPHY - Well done Mr M
Great thanks Steve and Matt. It’s interesting that Tom stated Forests finances have scaled up rapidly yet he expects the council not to acknowledge that together with the independent valuation.. what’s clear is that both Tom and Steve are on the same page now. I believe Tom is awaiting for a total evaluation of the potential of huge stadium expansion ie to 50k rather than 40k before any further commitments are made. So currently to build the new stand and buy the leasehold it’s looking like 300 million, that’s to get 38-40k max at the City Ground. Personally I believe that to be just fine. Steve makes a valid point.. Forest should simply get building now to get revenue in. If Forest believe it’s better to stay on the current lease, that’s fine… no build then.
Does anyone believe anything a labour councillor says? He says if the club want a 50,000+ stadium (which I believe the club should) then they may have to do it anyway never mind the council. The council are after a fast buck off the back of the club and not to be trusted. Do the council even know where Toton is?
so billionaires ego over councils community? ffs sure
A party political broadcast from the Labour Party.
as opposed to a corrupt ruling party, hmmmm
@PazLeBon I'll be voting Labour but I'm afraid despite Matt asking the right questions this was nothing more than a party political broadcast and I'm none the wiser when it comes to the football club.
Agreed, they are schooled in talking gobbledygook.
Hi Matt, you say she is your Ruby Naylor, I spotted 2 major errors in her Video about Forest & Notts, so both the football teams in the whole of Nottinghamshire! So what about Mansfield Town who aren't mentioned as one of the 2 Pro Football Clubs sustained by the whole of Notts and it's 800,000 Inhabitants! I was appalled especially as The Stags are higher in the Pyramid than Notts County so she needs to get that sorted. There is one other point that is made by the guy straight after her near the start of the video where he claims Forest were formed by a Shinny Team, however it was the Shinty Players, not Shinny players. Please can you let her know and advise her that these things need amending as if she leaves it as is then there will be some major uproar and grumbling from Mansfield and only too right too as they are Notts' 2nd Football Club, just as they were for all those years when Notts had dropped out of the Football League. But as I said too about our founding and as a fan of our history, it has always been a Shinty Team that helped get Forest formed so that is important to any Football Historians around too yet is currently wrong in her wonderful video apart from those 2 major errors!
God bet you're fun at parties 🤦🤣
Absolutely no point in redeveloping the WFCG if in five years time the club needs to move to a new stadium. That may suit the city council but it makes no commercial sense at all.

Sorry Matt this was a poor interview. You allowed him a free pass to deliver a party political broadcast. You never asked why Forest should be responsible for plugging council finances which have been bankrupted by their own ineptitude.
