Carol Burnett always struck me as humble and genuinely appreciative of the opportunities she's had. These seem very uncommon virtues in today's Hollywood.
Ya know, as old as I am, I am of the opinion that the hedonism in Hollywood in the golden ages up to the 70's makes todays Hollywood look like Sesame Street. Then as today, it is people that have the profound luck to make a living doing what they do. But at the end of the day, its their job. I dont remember many, but there were some, really being all that humble relative to some of todays stars.
Virginia Pritchett He always made me laugh but it turns out he was an egomaniac and a jerk, not very nice to his kids. Heard he has a daughter who is homeless, he left her out of his will. Also, i used to think he did the Telethon without pay, all for the kids, NOT SO. He got plenty of money from it. Sorry, great talent does not mean good heart.

Many people see him as a goofball, but that's just the vaudeville side of him. Remember, he has good genes; both his parents were in the business and he worked with his dad. There needs to be more of this about Carol Burnett... You can't say enough about her..she truly is " one of a kind" And of course...so is Jerry Lewis..theyre both the best and perfectionist in their craft. The list is long of these greats and they are two at the top of that list !
Well he did love quite a few female comedians including Ellen Degeneres, Whoopi Goldberg, Lucille Ball, Nanette Fabray, Totie Fields, and Joanne Worley to name a few, he complimented or promoted on his shows.

This is what I love about Jerry Lewis, When he speaks about great performers, he praises them with such passion and knowledge of their work that you can feel the love and respect that he has for them. His passion is intense, and he heaps praise on them knowing where they are operating from because he himself operates from that same place.I have heard him say " Tell them while they're still here" so I will. Jerry has made me laugh since I was a kid - brilliant! I wasn’t alive when they performed. I just found out about them, was stunned by their talent and mutual support and love on stage, and terrific, irreplaceable chemistry. When I found out they broke up I was shocked. Slow tests started to come down my fave and I never saw them live or anything. I haven’t even seen a movie yet. I’ve only seen UA-cam performances. We just live to see them live each other, on stage, and bring that magic. I just cried. I just wish they both could have stepped back from the pressures, fane and people telling them they would be better on their own, and appreciated the other more. And worked it out so they could go independent and then reunion even once it’s month or quarter. I’ve never seen magic like that. If I ever have they in my life I’m Going to treasure it I hope with all my heart. I adore, adore Martin and Lewis. I am so glad, too, that they did reconcile.... Can you tell me what it was like during the time? I imagine people were so upset, even as a nation? Thank you for sharing!
She didn't try and do everything, which few can. She allowed the support performers to give their best. Together with her talent produced her great show.
Jerry Lewis lived with incredible back pain for 37 years before he discovered a spine mechanism that blocked the pain messages to his brain. He fell on a metal cable back in 1965 during a pratfall...and considered suicide many times. As a person who suffers from back pain myself, I find it amazing that he could have done all that he did while living in such pain.
RAMKING61 Back pain is no joke. I have end stage osteoarthritis in both shoulders and don’t take any painkillers. But when I pulled a QL muscle in my back a couple of times it was tears and ice packs and a heating pad and wondering if I’ll ever be better. I don’t know how people put up with chronic back pain.

I grew up on both Jerry and Carol and I adore them more than words. I'm so glad that we still have them with us. I wonder what his thoughts are on Lucille Ball, though. Many consider her the Queen of Comedy and naturally, she inspired Carol very much.
Jerry Lewis was a rare genius. Way above most in his game. He was exceptionally unique in terms of his signature. It was huge. Go back and watch that early stuff from the 60's and on. It was so obscure yet so brilliant. He had a fire that is extremely rare, and he had it until the day that he said goodbye to this world.

The thing about Carol was that we didnt know her as a character. She seemed to be just Carol. We rarely know the true poeple behind the characters we fall in love with. Now we get to see all the blemishes and fails of our celebrities. Back then the closest thing we had was the Johhny Carson show. So we got to keep our adoration of them as the characters they played. The exceptions I can think of were Carol Burnett, Dean Martin, and Red Skelton. They seemed to be them in everything they did.
I saw an interview with Carol. She said Buster Keaton worked with her. All these amazing artists who touched lives from vaudeville to the great 70's variety shows are irreplaceable.

Did you see the recent movie Jerry made? His condition has greatly improved and he's healthier now than he's been in years. I think he'll live to be 100 or close to it.
Jerry is still on tour and performs and sings many times throughout the year. When I saw him in October, he was really energetic and acted like a mischievous little kid (basically his old self). He's made two movies in the last year, and is always working still. True, he's had many illnesses in the past, but he's a fighter. He said that he plans on staying around until he's 101. I hope that he's stays around even longer than that.
Jerry was around during the GOLDEN AGE he is one of the only few alive and he is still with it ... i try to read and watch the history of all the golden age ... and watch the old Dean Martin Roast ...

In the early 80's my cousin Georgie was invited to a fundraiser for MDA- Jerry Lewis was doing a show near the area and heard about the fundraiser and came and met with all of the kids... he did so OFF CAMERA. It wasn't a press event, he gained nothing from it, he just came over and met with the kids, laughed and joked, hugged and smiled and even cried a little bit. The man I met that day was sincere. If he was such an ass, why would he do such a kind thing without anything in it for himself?

What a genuine, and authentic, appreciation by one "clown" (not a pejorative) of another "clown." Lucille Ball (another "clown") once said about Ms. Burnett (paraphrasing), "I try not to envy anybody, but I envy her a little bit: She can do ANYTHING."

I have to agree with Jerry!! Carol was always a high point in my heart!! She was a force of nature!! She made me laugh, she was always great!! I'm 59 now and if you've never seen her make a point of doing so, carol will always be remembered fondly! With a smile!!

In this interview, Jerry seems so sweet and somewhat attractive for his age. He may or may not be critical, but so are many others who are celebrity types.
I wasn’t alive when they performed. I just found out about them, was stunned by their talent and mutual support and love on stage, and terrific, irreplaceable chemistry. When I found out they broke up I was shocked. Slow tests started to come down my fave and I never saw them live or anything. I haven’t even seen a movie yet. I’ve only seen UA-cam performances. We just live to see them live each other, on stage, and bring that magic. I just cried. I just wish they both could have stepped back from the pressures, fane and people telling them they would be better on their own, and appreciated the other more. And worked it out so they could go independent and then reunion even once it’s month or quarter. I’ve never seen magic like that. If I ever have they in my life I’m

Jerry Lewis lived with incredible back pain for 37 years before he discovered a spine mechanism that blocked the pain messages to his brain. He fell on a metal cable back in 1965 during a pratfall...and considered suicide many times.
As a person who suffers from back pain myself, I find it amazing that he could have done all that he did while living in such pain.

RAMKING61 Back pain is no joke. I have end stage osteoarthritis in both shoulders and don’t take any painkillers. But when I pulled a QL muscle in my back a couple of times it was tears and ice packs and a heating pad and wondering if I’ll ever be better. I don’t know how people put up with chronic back pain.

We need only see what passes for comedy now, childish angry pranks and poop jokes, ranting anxious paranoids soliciting uncomfortable laughter from their self inflicted pain. I remember Carol wanted to bring a smile to every one she met. She would throw out comments to people at check counter at the grocery store just for a smile to come over your face.

I grew up on both Jerry and Carol and I adore them more than words. I'm so glad that we still have them with us. I wonder what his thoughts are on Lucille Ball, though. Many consider her the Queen of Comedy and naturally, she inspired Carol very much.

Jerry Lewis was a rare genius. Way above most in his game. He was exceptionally unique in terms of his signature. It was huge. Go back and watch that early stuff from the 60's and on. The thing about Carol was that we didnt know her as a character. She seemed to be just Carol. We rarely know the true poeple behind the characters we fall in love with. Now we get to see all the blemishes and fails of our celebrities. Back then the closest thing we had was the Johhny Carson show. So we got to keep our adoration of them as the characters they played. The exceptions I can think of were Carol Burnett, Dean Martin, and Red Skelton. They seemed to be them in everything they did.

I don't think Jerry will be with us too much longer. I don't even like saying that. He has outlived so many greats and is a great himself.
Did you see the recent movie Jerry made? His condition has greatly improved and he's healthier now than he's been in years. I think he'll live to be 100 or close to it.
Jerry is still on tour and performs and sings many times throughout the year. When I saw him in October, he was really energetic and acted like a mischievous little kid (basically his old self). He's made two movies in the last year, and is always working still. True, he's had many illnesses in the past, but he's a fighter. He said that he plans on staying around until he's 101. I hope that he's stays around even longer than that.

In the early 80's my cousin Georgie was invited to a fundraiser for MDA- Jerry Lewis was doing a show near the area and heard about the fundraiser and came and met with all of the kids... he did so OFF CAMERA. It wasn't a press event, he gained nothing from it, he just came over and met with the kids, laughed and joked, hugged and smiled and even cried a little bit. The man I met that day was sincere. If he was such an ass, why would he do such a kind thing without anything in it for himself?

I tell you what, he's so right. I've always said Sammy Davis, Jr. was the greatest entertainer of the twentieth century. I have to amend that and say that Carol Burnett is equally so.
