I got over 40 diapers used on Facebook marketplace for $250. Been cloth diapering since 3 weeks. Everyone thinks I’m crazy but I love it. They keep coming and are like “how did you like it” fully expecting me to say I gave up. They can’t believe that I like it so much! What a money saver and he is so cute in the prints
My baby is four months old, we have been doing cloth diapers since week 2. My top suggestions would be: 1) use them from 3.4 kg on 2) quickly prewash the poopy ones so you can wash them along with the rest of their clothes 3) use hipoalergenic soap, with no perfume or color or parabens, it´s just safer for their skin 4) your wet bag can easily be a cloth bag from the supermarket, I recommend putting it in the washing machine along with the diapers 5) diapers with velcro: you can either put them inside the wetbag in the washing machine so they don´t get all caught up in the wool clothes, or wash them assembled inside out 6) first buy a few of different styles to try what works best for you. When you figure that out, about 20 diapers should be ok. I have 15 and I fall a few short when it rains 3 or 4 days straight. (unless you buy two in ones, then you need less diapers and more abs) 7) specially at night, it´s great to have a few already assembled. It's easier and faster, your baby is less time naked and your partner will have less of an issue changing them too! It´s really not that hard. It´s essentially the same as using disposable diapers, with the difference that you have to do a little bit more laundry. But you save a lot of money, produce waaaaay waaaaaaay less trash and your baby's skin will definitely appreciate it. The pros outweight the cons by a lot.
2) Do you not do two washes for your diapers? A prewash and a mainwash? 5) For Velcro diapers, just close the Velcro tabs so they're not pulling on other items.

We’ve been doing reusable wipes since day one! Highly recommend. I have a huge stack of old clothes cut into smaller squares and a spray bottle with water, almond oil and dr bronners. Then we just chuck the dirty wipes in a wet bag and wash them when it’s full.
Yes! LOVE reusable wipes! We will actually run for them when we have a blow over having to use the disposable kind. I just put set mine in a bowl of water.
@@Treebranch247 you only need to use water. There is some research that shoes using food products for this purpose can potentially cause allergies so be mindful of this.
I didn’t really get a choice when it came to doing cloth diapers. My son had a gnarly rash for TWO MONTHS and my ped recommended them so we gave it a shot and the rash was gone within a week! Your first video about cloth made the process so much less overwhelming.
I LOVE cloth diapering! It really does feel overwhelming at first with all of the info and options... but when you have a system down it's not that big a deal. I'm about to cloth diaper my 3rd baby and I'm so glad we went that route (esp. thinking of all of the savings we've made)!
We did cloth diaper in with my son most of the time, and started EC around 12 weeks old. He is now almost 2 and has been 100% toilet dependent since about 18-19 months old. High recommend these methods! Baby number 2 will be here soon, and I’m so stoked to only be diapering one baby at a time!
Been in cloth since 3 weeks old and we are just about to hit the 9 week old mark and doing it 24/7..havent had to buy or spend any money on disposables especially now that the prices are to go up feels quite awesome
Hey Shayla, thanks for pointing out that it doesn't have to be all or nothing. You’re videos encouraged me to make the switch, even though my husband wasn’t crazy about it. We used cloth diapers with our first baby. When our second baby was born we received a few packages of disposable diapers, which was very helpful for the first few weeks. Once those ran out, I broke out the cloth diapers. Now I’m using cloth at home during the day, but using disposable diapers overnight and when we’ll be away from home for a while. I’m using the shells with fleece liners over the cotton diapers, which wicks the moisture away from the skin and will catch the poop once baby starts solids. I also preassemble them, as another mom mentioned above to help make diaper changes simpler and faster. You’re so right that getting stated is the hardest part. Thanks again for helping me get over that hurdle.
I’ve cloth diapered since my baby was new born, but she was the size of a three month old. Props to you Shayla, bc you warned me that at 6 months there’s no way baby is going to make it through the night in a cloth. Perfect timing, bought some disposables for the win! 😉🙌🏾 appreciate y’a mama!
There are cloth diapers that last all night. My recipe is: fitted diaper (diaper that's fully made out of absorbent cloth material) with inserts + wool pants to keep the moisture in. Voilà.
I am 20 weeks pregnant and I want to do cloth but everyone in my life (who haven’t done cloth) keeps trying to convince me not to. I’m trying to come up with a nice way to tell them to buzz off and let me make my own choice. Haha
It's so much better for the environment and more cost effective and less likely to get rashes (less chemicals in cloth). Also, your baby your rules. If you want to do cloth, do cloth.
I’m really alternative compared to my family (we homeschool/unschooled too) 😂 I just tell them I know what works best for my kids and our family but thanks for your advice anyway 🙂 Just ignore them and do it anyway. My mum is now fascinated by all of our pretty modern cloth nappies and how amazing my daughter is using the potty way before the typical toilet training age (we also do EC). We only had the old towel style cloth diapers when I was a baby.
I'm almost 20 weeks and my parents and in laws are also trying to convince me I'll "change my mind" and do disposable anyway 🙄 It's irritating. Even if I have any sort of hiccup with cloth diapering I'm going to stick through it if only to spite them haha
Just tell them: "I'll see how it goes, of course I'll stop it's too much!". That made my folks back off. And then, when they ask you how it's going you should act really surprised it's going well.😂
There were a handful of things (including cloth diapers) that people tried to convince me we couldn't/ wouldn't/ shouldn't do for our baby. The most effective response in getting them to back off was saying something along the lines of, "We're going to try it and see how it goes. If it doesn't work for us, we'll change our plan." I also liked saying this often to give myself space to change my mind!
The daycare center I used to work in (in MN 😊)did complimentary cloth diapering for all the babes. Since I learned how to do it, changed multiple babies diaps, I decided to do it when I had kids. We’re expecting Jan 2022 😊 cloth diaper butt is so cute, and the $ saved is crazy.

@@mily87ful Good. We do cloth when we're at home, and disposable when we're out of the house. I've had a few issues with mold but it's all trial and error. I'd still suggest cloth to a new parent, especially to save money.

I'm in my last trimester and have been catching a lot of gruff for having a desire to be more "granola" and a minimalist... like choosing to wear our baby instead of infant carriers, and now cloth diapers...but I think, what on earth do people think women and families did thousands of years ago?? Those badass Viking women toting their kids around! So I figure, if they can, surely I can with all of the perks of being in the 21st century! So thanks for the reassurance and the great info! It's helping my husband understand my line of thinking more! 😂 Edit: I'm a trauma nurse-- so we do have a great carseat for our baby to come. It's just not one you can remove from your car, so I'll be putting them in a wearable carrier to exit the vehicle. 😊
Another cloth diapering plus EC'ing mom here! I use most types of cloth diapers (except pockets). Newborn AIOs, prefolds, and flats, and now flats with wool covers. I have fun experimenting with different types of cloth diapers. That's my hobby. 😅 💜 Heidi

We started to use cloth diapers around when my son was 8 weeks we intended to just do it part time andxonly doing it during the day but we have started doing it at night as well. Saved us a lot of space in our red bin because it was getting over run with diapers.
Thank you for the video! I'm due on August 1st. I've spend so far almost $200 on newborn and one size diaper covers, hemp and bamboo liners and diy fleece & cotton liners - that I am hoping will last my baby till she is potty trained. Given the elasticity doesn't deteriorate as well. I researched day in and day out on DIY liners that will help me save money even further - I was able to make more liners than I would if I were to buy them. Now all I am waiting for is the baby to start this journey with. Wish me luck!

I cloth diapered with my first from birth, and he's about to turn 5. So now I'm refreshing on all the cloth diapering stuff and learning the new stuff and I will want to say thank you so much for your videos! This second baby is due in August and we're planning to cloth diaper from birth again and I'm really looking forward to it!
I'm nowhere near having children anytime soon, maybe ever, but I love how compassionate you are about these "ideals". You don't do things 100%, but you still do them and they still work, and I love that approach.
Been cloth diapering my first for about 6 months now! We do pocket. I stuff them when I need them and it really doesnt take too much more effort. Loved the video happy to see an update.
I have years before having kids but after a decent amount of research I’m sold on cloth, also like the idea of EC but not committed to the idea lol. I think the hardest part of starting cloth will be convincing my future husband. I recently converted to cloth pads and, while I know poop will be considerably different, cloth is so much more comfortable for me so I know that in addition to all the other reasons for cloth diapers they will be more comfortable for the child too.
I have the Alva pocket diapers and love them! My husband and I were did not want to spray out poopy diapers so we got a pack of the bamboo liners off Amazon. It's 400 sheets for like $20. We just always put them in even if she just pees. Super easy to just throw away with the wipe. We also did 48 cloth diapers and that's my magic number 😂 That has me washing diapers every 3ish days. We love cloth diapers so much!! I've convinced many of my friends having babies to do cloth.
I ended up using the counter in my bathroom as the diapering station and put a GroVia hamper on the back of the door. I use the sink for reusable wipes and the toilet is right there for washing out solids! Not to mention the vent for anything stinky and the tub for the really messy stuff. Its been the easiest thing ☺ we used Esembly newborn diapers for a month and GroVia AIO after that! (My baby was 10lbs9oz at birth and 12lbs at one month) Even my husband and other family love the cloth diapers!
I bought several used pocket shells and inserts (and 1 all-in-one) on eBay for a steal, but none of the shells turned out to be any good (I assume because of how much they were used). Moisture would go straight through them. I bought brand new off Amazon. Pocket diapers are only a $5ish to $2ish dollars a piece on there, depending on which option you choose of course. Mine were 6 packs that came with 6 or 12 liners and a wet bag. I really didn't want pocket diapers, but I loved the affordability so I'm working with it. And they do seem much easier to clean for when she goes to solids. I used reusable wipes as soon as I started cloth diapering, but they do leave little fuzzies behind sometimes, so I use a disposable wipe for the final wipedown. I thought I would do 80/20 or 90/10, but right now I'm doing about 95/5. They're good through the night, or I only have to change her once. I haven't done long distance travel yet, but I take her grocery shopping, to church, Bible study, Grandparents' house, etc. in cloth diapers. I keep disposable diapers in her diaper bag. We used disposable for about a month after she was born. She hated having her diaper changed and would scream relentlessly. But shortly after starting cloth, she stopped crying during diaper changes. Also, her skin looked a lot better. She never had a rash, but her skin just looks better wearing cloth. We use Rockin' Green diaper detergent, run a rinse cycle after the wash cycle, and I alternate line-drying and dryer drying for the shells, depending on what I have time for. I love your videos, I watched a few of them before my baby was born, and you helped me decide to do cloth diapering.
The liners are a saver. I used these when my son went to daycare and or someone was watching him. It made it easy for them to just put it in the trash if it got a little mush
Honestly I put off using the cloth wipes on poops forever… but I finally sucked it up and tried, and truly spraying the poop off the cloth wipes is easier than spraying it off the diapers! I say go for it on the poops too! I swear they actually pick up poo better than disposables too

We've done CD and EC since 1mo. My girl had ties and couldn't latch until 6w, so CD/EC felt like a huge win while we were struggling to get to EBF. Now at 10mo, we have our routine down and even went a whole 24hrs this week with 100% catches on the potty. We use Alvas pocket diapers and take her every ~30mins when she is awake, if we can. I can't imagine paying so much money for diapers! We got our whole stash through our baby registry so we've saved soooo much money that way! I can't imagine paying $2000 on diapers until she's potty trained.... We haven't had a single blowout or diaper rash, so I feel like I've hit the baby jackpot! And baby girl is such a happy baby as she doesn't have to sit in her own waste waiting for a change.
Oh man! We're 6 months in and it has been a journey!!! 😂 There have been lots of ups and downs, leaks and blowouts!! What works for us are pocket diapers because you can customize the absorbency. So far our favorite brand has been La Petite Ourse. They are AMAZING! Especially if you have a boy. I made the mistake of buying a bunch of Noras Nursery and I really don't think they're as customizable, they have less buttons on the front, and they haven't been the best in the boy/front pee situation unless I REALLY add a bunch of absorbency or change the diaper every hour. And this is why it's such a journey hahahha but I don't think we'll ever do disposables again
We started cloth from day 2, still in the hospital. I decided to only use wool covers and flats, so it was easy to use the hospital's cloth diapers and have them wash it for us while we were there. We also started full EC from birth. Honestly, it couldn't have been easier, and we got away with only spending around 150 eur for everything related to diapers. We literally used disposables for one day (hospital provided) and zero disposable wipes, I just washed her butt under the sink while she was only having milk, and now we are using small rags cut up from old t-shirts. It's so easy to do, all you need is a scissor, no need to even sew. I was initially a bit afraid to using wool covers but luckily my MIL had experience with it and knitted me a few, and they worked out awesomely, I think I only wash them around once a month so I basically only need to worry about washing flats and they can take quite the beating :)
Due with first baby July 19th and I’ve got disposables for the first couple weeks then cloth for the rest of newborn and the one size! I’m so excited and happy about my cloth diapering decision and ur videos really helped me out to be like it’s not the big of a deal so just do it!
I just want to mention about what I do for EC and for cleaning. I have tile, so clean up isn't an option for me.. But i use undies for my 2.5 year old since he was months old, but i am just switching to cloth diapers at night instead of disposables. I know a lot of people complain about the smell, so for anyone having a problem with that, try to rinse them any time they get anything in them and if you don't rinse them right away, then rinse them before you toss them in the washer. I found that helped dramatically.
Just started cloth diapering when my son turned 4 weeks old. Up until then, I thought I wouldn’t even try cloth diapering because disposables were so easy and post Partum healing was tough. But I just gave CD a go one day and it’s not hard at all! I’m only two weeks in but I’m completely sold. You actually made me feel a lot better about doing disposables overnight though! My sleep right now is much more important than using a disposable or two at night. I’m going to start EC next!
My baby is 3 weeks old and we have been doing part time cloth since he was 1 week, because although I have about 50 OSFM only 14 can be made small enough to fit him. We’ve used cloth wipes since birth. Hit my first wash routine snag the other day, am dealing with nappy rash, plus finding time to wash, dry and stuff nappies is hard with a newborn. We’re getting there though!
Love this. We do the exact same 80/20 and I love that you’re vibe isn’t damned if you do damned if you don’t. You have to make it work for you! Also it doesn’t have to be hard. It seems like the rest of the world makes cloth diapering this whole thing. Once you have the supplies it is almost easier than disposable because you don’t have to figure out their size and how many in each size to buy and what to do if you run out. Etc.
I just calculated it right now. My kids usually get off diapers at 3 yrs.. we’d buy two boxes of diapers each month!! That’s over 2,000$$ 😱😣 glad I’m getting into cloth diapers. Also your info is very informative thank you. It’s very worth it to save the money you’re gonna need to buy those cloths diapers and the inserts.. even if it takes up too much of your time, because of the washing and rinsing, it’s still worth it. I knew mothers that were poor and said they used cloth diapers. It’s what they had and it worked so much for them. They’d wash the cloths right there in the sink and hang it out for drying . They had like 10 of those diapers they just always washed it right away .
We've been doing cloth diapers with our 6 month old twins, since they were 2 months and it's honestly not hard at all once you figure it out! We are saving so much money and helping the Earth!

For any parents in the comments considering cloth, do it! We started cloth after my baby was about 6 weeks and 10 pounds. She's almost a year now. I use primarily pocket diapers but have a few all in ones. I like pockets because I can use different inserts or combos of inserts as she gets older and things change. 90% of ours are second hand and it's honestly pretty simple it just sounds daunting when you're considering cloth but don't over complicate it. 2 extra loads of wash a week and hang them to dry overnight is what we do and it's only marginally more work than disposable. We also do disposable at night or if away for an extended period of time. Just find what works for your fam. ❤
I just bought a couple lots of cloth diapers on FB marketplace! Excited to get started! I’ve got a mix of pocket, all in one, and shells. So I can decide what I like! Out of all the diapers I got, most of them need the elastic replaced, but that’s cheap, and I can sew, so it was no biggie. It was worth it to me to only pay $2 per diaper. On a budget man!!! But making it work!
I actually bought a ton of used bumgenius AIO's while pregnant first partially from watching your first video on it. Started putting them on my baby at like 5 weeks old. Hardest part for me is just finding the time and energy to actually wash and fold them
We do also EC and cloth combo and my almost one year old just started letting us know when her diaper was wet by taking it off and giving it to us 🤣 Did you notice catching less pees when she started moving more? It’s like mine is too busy playing to give cues. Luckily we are still good on catching poops 🙌
With my first I attempted cloth but they just leaked and I gave up quickly, parenthood was just too overwhelming. I'm now on baby 2, bought a massive second hand stash and was really determined to make it work this time so preserved through leaks to find solutions and we're now pretty much full time cloth. Becoming a parent a second time was so much easier, I'm more chill, know what to expect, know how to breastfeed and you're already caring for one tiny human so you're in the swing of it.
We love using the liners, we just use them with every change and it catches almost all the poop 💩. Baby has had a few really solid poops so it has been amazing to just flip the liner in the garbage and not have to rinse.
Also prefolds are amazing, the easiest to spray off and get clean, no elastic for poop to get stuck in. I thought I'd be all about pockets but no prefolds surprised me, I say give all styles a try before you commit. You have time to build your stash as you go.
I’m due in just over a week, we have got the pocket diapers. Living in the UK the weather sucks so drying would be pretty hard for us so the shell is fast drying and we bought double the amount of inserts (bamboo, super absorbent but slow to dry) so they have time to dry fully between uses. We’ve got disposable nappies for the beginning, cause I don’t see my tired ass washing diapers while recovering. Got reusable wipes too which I’m hoping works well for us. I’m a full time Law student from home so I’m hoping I’ll be able to do EC with my little man as I’ll be with him 24/7. Such a good video! Thank you!!!!
Hey Shayla! I'm currently a mama of 4. I birthed 3 kiddos, now aged 16, 14, and 13. We (hubby and I) used all disposable diapers back then.😐 I also didn't birth the way I wanted, or do a lot of things the way I had planned, due to being way to easily swayed by other's opinions back then. We are now licensed foster parents and have a brand new baby boy. This go round, I stocked up on cloth diapers during our licensing process and LOVE them! I use bamboo diapers when I have to send him to visitations, but we use Nora's Nursery Pocket diapers at home. It did take until he was over 9 lbs for him to fit into them and they're still a lot bulkier than the bamboo, but it's all good.🙃 Also, I was using bamboo at night, but just swapped to cloth at night as well. No leaking issues yet. 🙌 Love your videos!

We bought half a supply of noras nursery pocket diapers they are very affordable and we love them so far our baby girl is two months and we’ve been using them for a few weeks when we can I use the bamboo Insert or a FST(flour sack towel) the cotton is great for absorbing. Zero leaks from her cloths and a few blowouts with disposables plus she get a diaper rash from natural disposable diapers so we may be going full time soon😬 thank you for your videos you basically a podcast playing for while I clean the kitchen and do laundry😂❤️
Due in a few days, and after a lot of research I went with mostly pocket diapers and a handful of prefolds/flats. The pockets give me the most flexibility to change up the material/absorbency of the inserts without changing how the diaper looks or functions for the family members who aren't familiar with cloth diapers. I have a couple of covers, and prefolds/flats that I can either use in the pocket diapers or on their own with the covers as a backup on laundry days or to test drive different systems for nighttime use.
When we started cloth diapers we tried cloth wipes and ended up using those instead of TP for the girls going #1, wet wipes for #2 (better clean with 1 wipe 🙌)we no longer buy TP! Just another layer of crunchy 😜

This is exactly what we are doing this and ours is 6 months and we’re pooping in potty training as well and he is 90 percent poops in the potty. Yeha the feedback is massive on the cloth diapers and it helps so much with EC

We started at about 6 or 7 weeks a) because of the overwhelm of being first time parents and b) we found that even though he met the weight requirements, they didn’t fit quite well enough. We played around with a couple brands (buying second hand or just one or two from a company) before settling on a style and two brands we love! We do probably 98% cloth, only doing disposable for the odd diaper rash that needs zinc ointment (which can mess up the absorbability of cloth) and do cloth wipes too! Just rinse those poopy ones with the diaper! Easy peasy! Totally agree that once you’ve got the kind you like and a wash routine figured out it’s way easy. Like I don’t even think twice about washing. And we got some extras on a super sweet sale that we’ll be set to have 2 kids in cloth at the same time!
Cloth wipes are amazing and if your already washing cloth diapers they are super easy to add. You can buy them or cut a piece flannel into 8x8 squares. I put them in the wipe warmer filled with water and a squirt of dr bronners baby soap.
I'm due in 3 weeks. I bought a butt-ton of cloth diapers used and I am excited to do it. Nobody in my community does it and people shake their heads when I say I want to cloth diaper. I never of the EC method where you already start potty training, but that really intrigues me. I read that in other countries, children are already potty trained before they turn 1 and I could not believe it, but because of the cost of diapers in these places, potty training is very important for these parents, in order to make ends meet. Very intriguing and something I definitely want to find out more about.

3.5 months old. cloth from the start. Finger in poop. Yep, many times. I sew for a living, so our costs were fabric and time. I do find she goes through way more diapers than the average. 20ish a day. But she also gets changed as soon as I feel any wetness. Still learning to give it minute when she pees or poops so I don’t change 3-4 diapers in a row.
I’ve been using Noras Nursery brand for about 5 months now. Can’t find anything bad to say about them so far. Right now they have a huge sale on a lot of their discontinued prints and you can find a promo code pretty easy. Brings the diapers down to about $8 a diaper which is honestly less then I paid for some of my preloved cloth ones!

I been cloth diapering for two months now and it’s kinda just one of those things that just works into your schedule.
I got over 40 diapers used on Facebook marketplace for $250. Been cloth diapering since 3 weeks. Everyone thinks I’m crazy but I love it. They keep coming and are like “how did you like it” fully expecting me to say I gave up. They can’t believe that I like it so much! What a money saver and he is so cute in the prints
My baby is four months old, we have been doing cloth diapers since week 2. My top suggestions would be:
1) use them from 3.4 kg on
2) quickly prewash the poopy ones so you can wash them along with the rest of their clothes
3) use hipoalergenic soap, with no perfume or color or parabens, it´s just safer for their skin
4) your wet bag can easily be a cloth bag from the supermarket, I recommend putting it in the washing machine along with the diapers
5) diapers with velcro: you can either put them inside the wetbag in the washing machine so they don´t get all caught up in the wool clothes, or wash them assembled inside out
6) first buy a few of different styles to try what works best for you. When you figure that out, about 20 diapers should be ok. I have 15 and I fall a few short when it rains 3 or 4 days straight. (unless you buy two in ones, then you need less diapers and more abs)
7) specially at night, it´s great to have a few already assembled. It's easier and faster, your baby is less time naked and your partner will have less of an issue changing them too!
It´s really not that hard. It´s essentially the same as using disposable diapers, with the difference that you have to do a little bit more laundry. But you save a lot of money, produce waaaaay waaaaaaay less trash and your baby's skin will definitely appreciate it. The pros outweight the cons by a lot.
2) Do you not do two washes for your diapers? A prewash and a mainwash?
5) For Velcro diapers, just close the Velcro tabs so they're not pulling on other items.

Cloth diapers are made from plastic (i.e. microfibre). That is my biggest objection.

We’ve been doing reusable wipes since day one! Highly recommend. I have a huge stack of old clothes cut into smaller squares and a spray bottle with water, almond oil and dr bronners. Then we just chuck the dirty wipes in a wet bag and wash them when it’s full.

Yes! LOVE reusable wipes! We will actually run for them when we have a blow over having to use the disposable kind.

I didn’t really get a choice when it came to doing cloth diapers. My son had a gnarly rash for TWO MONTHS and my ped recommended them so we gave it a shot and the rash was gone within a week! Your first video about cloth made the process so much less overwhelming.

I LOVE cloth diapering! It really does feel overwhelming at first with all of the info and options... but when you have a system down it's not that big a deal. I'm about to cloth diaper my 3rd baby and I'm so glad we went that route (esp. thinking of all of the savings we've made)!
We did cloth diaper in with my son most of the time, and started EC around 12 weeks old. He is now almost 2 and has been 100% toilet dependent since about 18-19 months old. High recommend these methods! Baby number 2 will be here soon, and I’m so stoked to only be diapering one baby at a time!

Been in cloth since 3 weeks old and we are just about to hit the 9 week old mark and doing it 24/7..havent had to buy or spend any money on disposables especially now that the prices are to go up feels quite awesome
Hey Shayla, thanks for pointing out that it doesn't have to be all or nothing. You’re videos encouraged me to make the switch, even though my husband wasn’t crazy about it. We used cloth diapers with our first baby. When our second baby was born we received a few packages of disposable diapers, which was very helpful for the first few weeks. Once those ran out, I broke out the cloth diapers. Now I’m using cloth at home during the day, but using disposable diapers overnight and when we’ll be away from home for a while. I’m using the shells with fleece liners over the cotton diapers, which wicks the moisture away from the skin and will catch the poop once baby starts solids. I also preassemble them, as another mom mentioned above to help make diaper changes simpler and faster. You’re so right that getting stated is the hardest part. Thanks again for helping me get over that hurdle.

There are cloth diapers that last all night. My recipe is: fitted diaper (diaper that's fully made out of absorbent cloth material) with inserts + wool pants to keep the moisture in. Voilà.
I am 20 weeks pregnant and I want to do cloth but everyone in my life (who haven’t done cloth) keeps trying to convince me not to. I’m trying to come up with a nice way to tell them to buzz off and let me make my own choice. Haha
It's so much better for the environment and more cost effective and less likely to get rashes (less chemicals in cloth). Also, your baby your rules. If you want to do cloth, do cloth.
I’m really alternative compared to my family (we homeschool/unschooled too) 😂 I just tell them I know what works best for my kids and our family but thanks for your advice anyway 🙂 Just ignore them and do it anyway. My mum is now fascinated by all of our pretty modern cloth nappies and how amazing my daughter is using the potty way before the typical toilet training age (we also do EC). We only had the old towel style cloth diapers when I was a baby.
I'm almost 20 weeks and my parents and in laws are also trying to convince me I'll "change my mind" and do disposable anyway 🙄 It's irritating. Even if I have any sort of hiccup with cloth diapering I'm going to stick through it if only to spite them haha
Just tell them: "I'll see how it goes, of course I'll stop it's too much!". That made my folks back off. And then, when they ask you how it's going you should act really surprised it's going well.😂
There were a handful of things (including cloth diapers) that people tried to convince me we couldn't/ wouldn't/ shouldn't do for our baby. The most effective response in getting them to back off was saying something along the lines of, "We're going to try it and see how it goes. If it doesn't work for us, we'll change our plan." I also liked saying this often to give myself space to change my mind!
The daycare center I used to work in (in MN 😊)did complimentary cloth diapering for all the babes. Since I learned how to do it, changed multiple babies diaps, I decided to do it when I had kids. We’re expecting Jan 2022 😊 cloth diaper butt is so cute, and the $ saved is crazy.

@@mily87ful Good. We do cloth when we're at home, and disposable when we're out of the house. I've had a few issues with mold but it's all trial and error. I'd still suggest cloth to a new parent, especially to save money.

Edit: I'm a trauma nurse-- so we do have a great carseat for our baby to come. It's just not one you can remove from your car, so I'll be putting them in a wearable carrier to exit the vehicle. 😊

We started to use cloth diapers around when my son was 8 weeks we intended to just do it part time andxonly doing it during the day but we have started doing it at night as well. Saved us a lot of space in our red bin because it was getting over run with diapers.
Thank you for the video! I'm due on August 1st. I've spend so far almost $200 on newborn and one size diaper covers, hemp and bamboo liners and diy fleece & cotton liners - that I am hoping will last my baby till she is potty trained. Given the elasticity doesn't deteriorate as well. I researched day in and day out on DIY liners that will help me save money even further - I was able to make more liners than I would if I were to buy them. Now all I am waiting for is the baby to start this journey with. Wish me luck!
If you line dry the diapers, instead of tossing them in the dryer, that will also help maintain the elasticity. 💗

I'm nowhere near having children anytime soon, maybe ever, but I love how compassionate you are about these "ideals". You don't do things 100%, but you still do them and they still work, and I love that approach.
Been cloth diapering my first for about 6 months now! We do pocket. I stuff them when I need them and it really doesnt take too much more effort. Loved the video happy to see an update.
I have years before having kids but after a decent amount of research I’m sold on cloth, also like the idea of EC but not committed to the idea lol. I think the hardest part of starting cloth will be convincing my future husband. I recently converted to cloth pads and, while I know poop will be considerably different, cloth is so much more comfortable for me so I know that in addition to all the other reasons for cloth diapers they will be more comfortable for the child too.
I’ve been using the esembly cloth diapering system since my baby was about 4 weeks old and I 10/10 recommend! He’s 7mos now!

I have the Alva pocket diapers and love them! My husband and I were did not want to spray out poopy diapers so we got a pack of the bamboo liners off Amazon. It's 400 sheets for like $20. We just always put them in even if she just pees. Super easy to just throw away with the wipe.
We also did 48 cloth diapers and that's my magic number 😂 That has me washing diapers every 3ish days. We love cloth diapers so much!! I've convinced many of my friends having babies to do cloth.
I ended up using the counter in my bathroom as the diapering station and put a GroVia hamper on the back of the door. I use the sink for reusable wipes and the toilet is right there for washing out solids! Not to mention the vent for anything stinky and the tub for the really messy stuff. Its been the easiest thing ☺ we used Esembly newborn diapers for a month and GroVia AIO after that! (My baby was 10lbs9oz at birth and 12lbs at one month)

I bought several used pocket shells and inserts (and 1 all-in-one) on eBay for a steal, but none of the shells turned out to be any good (I assume because of how much they were used). Moisture would go straight through them. I bought brand new off Amazon. Pocket diapers are only a $5ish to $2ish dollars a piece on there, depending on which option you choose of course. Mine were 6 packs that came with 6 or 12 liners and a wet bag. I really didn't want pocket diapers, but I loved the affordability so I'm working with it. And they do seem much easier to clean for when she goes to solids.
I used reusable wipes as soon as I started cloth diapering, but they do leave little fuzzies behind sometimes, so I use a disposable wipe for the final wipedown.
I thought I would do 80/20 or 90/10, but right now I'm doing about 95/5. They're good through the night, or I only have to change her once. I haven't done long distance travel yet, but I take her grocery shopping, to church, Bible study, Grandparents' house, etc. in cloth diapers. I keep disposable diapers in her diaper bag.
We used disposable for about a month after she was born. She hated having her diaper changed and would scream relentlessly. But shortly after starting cloth, she stopped crying during diaper changes. Also, her skin looked a lot better. She never had a rash, but her skin just looks better wearing cloth.
We use Rockin' Green diaper detergent, run a rinse cycle after the wash cycle, and I alternate line-drying and dryer drying for the shells, depending on what I have time for.
I love your videos, I watched a few of them before my baby was born, and you helped me decide to do cloth diapering.
The liners are a saver. I used these when my son went to daycare and or someone was watching him. It made it easy for them to just put it in the trash if it got a little mush

Honestly I put off using the cloth wipes on poops forever… but I finally sucked it up and tried, and truly spraying the poop off the cloth wipes is easier than spraying it off the diapers! I say go for it on the poops too! I swear they actually pick up poo better than disposables too

I’ve been cloth diapering for about 5 months now and I still love it!
We've done CD and EC since 1mo. My girl had ties and couldn't latch until 6w, so CD/EC felt like a huge win while we were struggling to get to EBF. Now at 10mo, we have our routine down and even went a whole 24hrs this week with 100% catches on the potty. We use Alvas pocket diapers and take her every ~30mins when she is awake, if we can. I can't imagine paying so much money for diapers! We got our whole stash through our baby registry so we've saved soooo much money that way! I can't imagine paying $2000 on diapers until she's potty trained....
We haven't had a single blowout or diaper rash, so I feel like I've hit the baby jackpot! And baby girl is such a happy baby as she doesn't have to sit in her own waste waiting for a change.

Oh man! We're 6 months in and it has been a journey!!! 😂 There have been lots of ups and downs, leaks and blowouts!! What works for us are pocket diapers because you can customize the absorbency. So far our favorite brand has been La Petite Ourse. They are AMAZING! Especially if you have a boy. I made the mistake of buying a bunch of Noras Nursery and I really don't think they're as customizable, they have less buttons on the front, and they haven't been the best in the boy/front pee situation unless I REALLY add a bunch of absorbency or change the diaper every hour. And this is why it's such a journey hahahha but I don't think we'll ever do disposables again
We started cloth from day 2, still in the hospital. I decided to only use wool covers and flats, so it was easy to use the hospital's cloth diapers and have them wash it for us while we were there. We also started full EC from birth. Honestly, it couldn't have been easier, and we got away with only spending around 150 eur for everything related to diapers. We literally used disposables for one day (hospital provided) and zero disposable wipes, I just washed her butt under the sink while she was only having milk, and now we are using small rags cut up from old t-shirts. It's so easy to do, all you need is a scissor, no need to even sew. I was initially a bit afraid to using wool covers but luckily my MIL had experience with it and knitted me a few, and they worked out awesomely, I think I only wash them around once a month so I basically only need to worry about washing flats and they can take quite the beating :)
Due with first baby July 19th and I’ve got disposables for the first couple weeks then cloth for the rest of newborn and the one size! I’m so excited and happy about my cloth diapering decision and ur videos really helped me out to be like it’s not the big of a deal so just do it!
I just want to mention about what I do for EC and for cleaning. I have tile, so clean up isn't an option for me.. But i use undies for my 2.5 year old since he was months old, but i am just switching to cloth diapers at night instead of disposables. I know a lot of people complain about the smell, so for anyone having a problem with that, try to rinse them any time they get anything in them and if you don't rinse them right away, then rinse them before you toss them in the washer. I found that helped dramatically.
Yes! We totally stuck our finger in the diaper to find poop. My Dad does the same without me even saying anything. (His generation did cloth)

Just started cloth diapering when my son turned 4 weeks old. Up until then, I thought I wouldn’t even try cloth diapering because disposables were so easy and post Partum healing was tough. But I just gave CD a go one day and it’s not hard at all! I’m only two weeks in but I’m completely sold. You actually made me feel a lot better about doing disposables overnight though! My sleep right now is much more important than using a disposable or two at night. I’m going to start EC next!

My baby is 3 weeks old and we have been doing part time cloth since he was 1 week, because although I have about 50 OSFM only 14 can be made small enough to fit him. We’ve used cloth wipes since birth. Hit my first wash routine snag the other day, am dealing with nappy rash, plus finding time to wash, dry and stuff nappies is hard with a newborn. We’re getting there though!
I use cloth diapers instead. They're huge and cover way more than the traditional burp cloth.

Love this. We do the exact same 80/20 and I love that you’re vibe isn’t damned if you do damned if you don’t. You have to make it work for you! Also it doesn’t have to be hard. It seems like the rest of the world makes cloth diapering this whole thing. Once you have the supplies it is almost easier than disposable because you don’t have to figure out their size and how many in each size to buy and what to do if you run out. Etc.

I just calculated it right now. My kids usually get off diapers at 3 yrs.. we’d buy two boxes of diapers each month!! That’s over 2,000$$ 😱😣 glad I’m getting into cloth diapers. Also your info is very informative thank you. It’s very worth it to save the money you’re gonna need to buy those cloths diapers and the inserts.. even if it takes up too much of your time, because of the washing and rinsing, it’s still worth it. I knew mothers that were poor and said they used cloth diapers. It’s what they had and it worked so much for them. They’d wash the cloths right there in the sink and hang it out for drying . They had like 10 of those diapers they just always washed it right away .

For any parents in the comments considering cloth, do it! We started cloth after my baby was about 6 weeks and 10 pounds. She's almost a year now. I use primarily pocket diapers but have a few all in ones. I like pockets because I can use different inserts or combos of inserts as she gets older and things change. 90% of ours are second hand and it's honestly pretty simple it just sounds daunting when you're considering cloth but don't over complicate it. 2 extra loads of wash a week and hang them to dry overnight is what we do and it's only marginally more work than disposable. We also do disposable at night or if away for an extended period of time. Just find what works for your fam. ❤

I just bought a couple lots of cloth diapers on FB marketplace! Excited to get started! I’ve got a mix of pocket, all in one, and shells. So I can decide what I like! Out of all the diapers I got, most of them need the elastic replaced, but that’s cheap, and I can sew, so it was no biggie. It was worth it to me to only pay $2 per diaper. On a budget man!!! But making it work!

I actually bought a ton of used bumgenius AIO's while pregnant first partially from watching your first video on it. Started putting them on my baby at like 5 weeks old. Hardest part for me is just finding the time and energy to actually wash and fold them
We got a bin and throw the clean ones in that. It's been a big (mental) help to just decide to not fold them.
We do also EC and cloth combo and my almost one year old just started letting us know when her diaper was wet by taking it off and giving it to us 🤣 Did you notice catching less pees when she started moving more? It’s like mine is too busy playing to give cues. Luckily we are still good on catching poops 🙌

With my first I attempted cloth but they just leaked and I gave up quickly, parenthood was just too overwhelming. I'm now on baby 2, bought a massive second hand stash and was really determined to make it work this time so preserved through leaks to find solutions and we're now pretty much full time cloth. Becoming a parent a second time was so much easier, I'm more chill, know what to expect, know how to breastfeed and you're already caring for one tiny human so you're in the swing of it.
We love using the liners, we just use them with every change and it catches almost all the poop 💩. Baby has had a few really solid poops so it has been amazing to just flip the liner in the garbage and not have to rinse.
Also prefolds are amazing, the easiest to spray off and get clean, no elastic for poop to get stuck in. I thought I'd be all about pockets but no prefolds surprised me, I say give all styles a try before you commit. You have time to build your stash as you go.
I’m due in just over a week, we have got the pocket diapers. Living in the UK the weather sucks so drying would be pretty hard for us so the shell is fast drying and we bought double the amount of inserts (bamboo, super absorbent but slow to dry) so they have time to dry fully between uses. We’ve got disposable nappies for the beginning, cause I don’t see my tired ass washing diapers while recovering. Got reusable wipes too which I’m hoping works well for us. I’m a full time Law student from home so I’m hoping I’ll be able to do EC with my little man as I’ll be with him 24/7. Such a good video! Thank you!!!!

I'm currently a mama of 4. I birthed 3 kiddos, now aged 16, 14, and 13. We (hubby and I) used all disposable diapers back then.😐 I also didn't birth the way I wanted, or do a lot of things the way I had planned, due to being way to easily swayed by other's opinions back then. We are now licensed foster parents and have a brand new baby boy. This go round, I stocked up on cloth diapers during our licensing process and LOVE them! I use bamboo diapers when I have to send him to visitations, but we use Nora's Nursery Pocket diapers at home. It did take until he was over 9 lbs for him to fit into them and they're still a lot bulkier than the bamboo, but it's all good.🙃 Also, I was using bamboo at night, but just swapped to cloth at night as well. Bro, I found your channel today, I’m about to have my first baby and I feel so happy because:
1) you talk fast and I need that
2) you have normal conversational tendencies and dont sound like a manufactured rehearsed human that’s monotone
3) you look like a real person and by that I do t mean you aren’t pretty (you’re very pretty) but I love that you just are living and have your hair up and minimal makeup and made this video. Like thanks for being okay with that, because most of us out here watching are like that.

We bought half a supply of noras nursery pocket diapers they are very affordable and we love them so far our baby girl is two months and we’ve been using them for a few weeks when we can I use the bamboo Insert or a FST(flour sack towel) the cotton is great for absorbing. Zero leaks from her cloths and a few blowouts with disposables plus she get a diaper rash from natural disposable diapers so we may be going full time soon😬 thank you for your videos you basically a podcast playing for while I clean the kitchen and do laundry😂❤️

Due in a few days, and after a lot of research I went with mostly pocket diapers and a handful of prefolds/flats. The pockets give me the most flexibility to change up the material/absorbency of the inserts without changing how the diaper looks or functions for the family members who aren't familiar with cloth diapers. I have a couple of covers, and prefolds/flats that I can either use in the pocket diapers or on their own with the covers as a backup on laundry days or to test drive different systems for nighttime use.
When we started cloth diapers we tried cloth wipes and ended up using those instead of TP for the girls going #1, wet wipes for #2 (better clean with 1 wipe 🙌)we no longer buy TP! Just another layer of crunchy 😜
I'm almost 32 weeks and definitely considering cloth diapering - at least part time or while home!

This is exactly what we are doing this and ours is 6 months and we’re pooping in potty training as well and he is 90 percent poops in the potty. Yeha the feedback is massive on the cloth diapers and it helps so much with EC

We started at about 6 or 7 weeks a) because of the overwhelm of being first time parents and b) we found that even though he met the weight requirements, they didn’t fit quite well enough. We played around with a couple brands (buying second hand or just one or two from a company) before settling on a style and two brands we love! We do probably 98% cloth, only doing disposable for the odd diaper rash that needs zinc ointment (which can mess up the absorbability of cloth) and do cloth wipes too! Just rinse those poopy ones with the diaper! Easy peasy! Totally agree that once you’ve got the kind you like and a wash routine figured out it’s way easy. Like I don’t even think twice about washing. And we got some extras on a super sweet sale that we’ll be set to have 2 kids in cloth at the same time!

Cloth wipes are amazing and if your already washing cloth diapers they are super easy to add. You can buy them or cut a piece flannel into 8x8 squares. I put them in the wipe warmer filled with water and a squirt of dr bronners baby soap.
I'm due in 3 weeks. I bought a butt-ton of cloth diapers used and I am excited to do it. Nobody in my community does it and people shake their heads when I say I want to cloth diaper.
I never of the EC method where you already start potty training, but that really intrigues me. I read that in other countries, children are already potty trained before they turn 1 and I could not believe it, but because of the cost of diapers in these places, potty training is very important for these parents, in order to make ends meet. Very intriguing and something I definitely want to find out more about.
I am 10 weeks pregnant and we will be cloth diapering using Esembly Baby. Thanks for the info about the fluff love university. I found my washing machine and feel good about how I will clean the diapers now.
3.5 months old. cloth from the start. Finger in poop. Yep, many times. I sew for a living, so our costs were fabric and time. I do find she goes through way more diapers than the average. 20ish a day. But she also gets changed as soon as I feel any wetness. Still learning to give it minute when she pees or poops so I don’t change 3-4 diapers in a row.
I’ve been using Noras Nursery brand for about 5 months now. Can’t find anything bad to say about them so far.
Right now they have a huge sale on a lot of their discontinued prints and you can find a promo code pretty easy. Brings the diapers down to about $8 a diaper which is honestly less then I paid for some of my preloved cloth ones!
Great video! I actually found with those liners if they don't poop in them they wash with the cloth diapers nicely.

Cloth diapering with my 4th…she is in diapers I used 9years ago with my first. In the long run it is a money saver(if you can stay off Amazon and eBay 😅😂).
