  • I'm out in Boulevard, CA today testing out the old DR. This is my first time out to this area. Lots to explore here. After just rebuilding my pumper carb and getting fresh rubber on, I came out to knock the dust off. Unfortunately, the bike was way rich for this elevation and wouldnt rev out. I didnt feel like moving the needle clip so i just rode it at low throttle and enjoyed the day!
*btw, apologies for the audio. The GoPro wind noise filter was on auto and didnt do well..

fun day out! I'm considering a DR350se from my XR650l for something a bit smaller.. how is real world road speed, can it handle 65-70 with reserve or is it maxed? thanks..

It can definitely pull past 70mph but has considerably less passing power than your Honda (I had an XR600). It's does OK on the freeways and would top out around 85-90 with street gearing. With the dirt sprockets, it'll still do it but only up to about 78 or so comfortably. But offroad they will be a night and day difference. The 350SE feels like a dirtbike while the 650L really shows its weight. Good luck! 👍

@@SanDiegoRider Thank you for getting back to me, I very much appropriate your input. In fact, I just had it out for a 110mi ride-about 40 off road, and yes, even though I've had it 15yrs, at nockin on 60, I'm feelin every pound..btw, what is your dirt gearing? I'm running 14/48 and find it ideal for the XRL..

      @@AzPauly Glad I could help 🙂
For my DR I decided on 13/44, which is the same ratio as the dirt models 14/47 setup. But my combo allows me to easily switch from street to dirt gearing with just a countersprocket swap (easy). A 14t puts me very close to stock SE gearing. And a 15t is taller for easy freeway distance riding, if needed. The transmission in the DR is wide ratio, which helps.
