Focus on why you are getting caught with cradles, not on how to get out of them.

We have a RTC ran by a D1 program here and I asked them what my son can do to defend against the bar-arm. They told us to turn your inside hip to the mat and gable grip your hands. Then extend the arm you're being barred across the mat away from the bar using the strength of both your arms. It seemed to work really well in demonstration. We'll see how it goes next time he gets caught. Anyways, I just wanted to share another option.

0:35 keeping away the wrist, this is important, so the opponent cannot get a double chicken wing.

For near side cradle get your head and upper body UP and get a 2 on 1 on his arm step up and cut out. On crossface look into the crossface meaning turn your head into your opponent also on the arm he's got crossface dig your hand into the mat and mule kick your leg hard. If he's locked already he will usually go to your far side fight your arm out hard while throwing it over your opponent back posting it on mat (keep get rolled) with your free arm work a half on opponent the reversal and fall.

@ slayer55445 ,great question. I think the first step you should approach to take is to see how your getting cradled , ex. are you stepping up in attempt stand-up with your head and knee to close allowing a near side, are you getting broke down and getting cross faced and cradled or in front head situation where your extended and opponent gets out to side getting a near side cradle? From there you can take the approach to preventing and avoiding most of those situations. For a near side cradle

The only way that I know of is to use your hands to break their grip, usually an “S” grip. The “S” grip aka hook grip is a little easier than a gable grip to break but it is still hard to do. You are almost asking for the impossible.
There is an easy way to break grips but it will probably get you disqualified since dislocating or threatening to dislocate a thumb is against the rules.
That's all I know, help Jason!

I no longer believe this to be true. I think you can defend.

Could you please make a video on basic bottom defense to common staple attacks (Nelson’s, cradles, bar arms, near wrists, 2on1 tilts etc..)
