    5/27/2019 USA Grandpa Bill: Matthias, your jigs are things of beauty and joys to behold. One thing though, you have an ample supply of Maple and being in Canada is one of the riches of your life. Where I am there is limited selection and the one big box store that carries quality hardwoods has prices that require a high income. I would cherish a life where you are.

    You are one of the lucky people who seems to have a natural talent for working with wood, your videos are also better than most of the bilious TV shows we get bombarded with these days. All the best, Andy.

    Among my favorite design details: every piece of wood has a mini-chamfer, which gives the entire assembly a soft appearance.

    • @matthiaswandel
      @matthiaswandel  11 років тому +2

      Yes, I always go over the parts with a palm plane to chamfer all the exposed edges. Makes everything feel so much nicer to the touch.

    Instead of using so many clamps, which I don't have, what would you think of using a couple of 18 ga pins, delivered by an air nailer, as an aid to keep the glued surfaces together?

    • @matthiaswandel
      @matthiaswandel  11 років тому +2

      Nothing wrong with using nails if you don't have an objection to using nails.

    Would this jig also work on a router table instead of a table saw ?
    If you find that you would move that dial indicator often because you need more travel, you can get 2" and 4" travel models. the 2" ones can be in the $20 to $30 range.
    The 4" ones in the $100 range.
    Are you relying on the friction fit to hold the shaft to the carriage?
    No set screws or something ?

    If the drill is square to the table,in the drill press, then drilling the two bushing holes and three rod holes at the same time might improve alignment.

    I love your work, so don't take this the wrong way, but I think this one is a little over the top. A simple jig, but a little more than it needs to be.

    • @mattswan7751
      @mattswan7751 11 років тому +2

      Well, I would just use a stop block on a table sled made for dado blade applications. and set the blade to the right hight and cut. But jigs are always fun too!

    • @matthiaswandel

      Tushar Varshney He doesn't want to open a store. Which part of this concept do you people not understand? I get the same crap.
      youtube: "You should sell these."
      Me: "But I don't want to sell these."
      youtube: "But it's possible, so you should do it. Here's a quick business model: first, buy 1000 pieces of X. Then, you'll want to..."
