However, you might be surprised to learn that this building, established in 1970 and a hub of Goan culture, has now fallen victim to corruption. The BJP government in Goa recently renovated this iconic building because it was aging, with some parts becoming weak and facing various issues. Therefore, the decision was made to carry out the renovation. But there is a story of corruption which is trending in Goa.

A long walk along the new promenade led to the National Dance Festival at the Kala Academy. We witnessed firsthand the failure of the sound system. One dancer was left squatting on stage for nearly 5 mins when the system failed. It came on loud and screechy and they seemed to have lost control over it. New dancers came on and the young dancer had to leave the stage. All in all the evening lost it splendor and though the dancers were very good the National dancers couldn't have taken back with them the "wow" factor that Kala Academy usually gave its performers and audience. No spotlights on the dancers or dimming of lights which gave the place a nice atmosphere and the performance could have been done at any venue. It was so lackluster. The lovely promenade has also got several bins missing and the slate tiles used on the pillars have fallen off and need to be maintained before this too is destroyed. Not yet a year old?.
