I've been waiting to see this for years! I remember reading the description of the called to work video and was wondering where the re-take was. Glad I finally get to see it tonight.
I once worked in an office building where random office keys would work in the fire call key switch. A few people took advantage of that while others wondered why the elevator would shoot down to the lobby. Was that way ‘til they modernized them.
See, that thing at 3:30 where you didn't know where it was going, would be very unsafe in a real fire. Most elevators give you COMPLETE control, but this one seems to still do some *important* things on it's own. Not having a call cancel? Yeah. That could be deadly if you accidentally hit the button and can't get off.
This is off topic but I tried finding the interlock on my washer. I believe it is inside the hinge. Most of them are behind the lid but I can't find any interlock on the outside of the washer. Also that is my issue with this fire service. No way to cancel calls from upstairs. VERY dangerous for the fire fighters.
This is a REALLY late reply, but I looked at some videos of washers like yours and similar. Unlike the older style of those machines which just have it under the lid, it looks like yours is mounted either under the control panel, or in the actual cabinet unfortunately. Which means that you would have to take either the control panel or the cabinet off (or both) to get to it. And yeah. This elevator would have been a liability during an actual fire. Although I would think that since it's a parking garage, they wouldn't have used it anyway.
Well, the in car signage may be wrong regarding “call canceling”. But the arrival lantern doesn’t “ring” when on Fire Recall. That red button “that does nothing”, isn’t a button. Read the writing on the button cap. This “non button” lights up during the recall itself. It illuminates during the recall function. This U.S. Elevator is early 1980’s vintage, like 1984 or thereabouts. Fire Service, apart from you believing it should or shouldn’t behave in a certain way, seemed to operate under the code that was in force 30 some years ago. Until the elevator is brought down to the main fire floor while on phase two (in the car), you can indeed turn phase two off inside the car and it will still run on phase two until it’s brought to the main fire floor, “1” in this case and the doors open fully and remain open. Then phase two is dropped out of the control circuitry. Then phase one can be turned off to return the car to automatic service, then the lantern will ding. It’s not unsafe as some understood your description to be.
@@DieselDucy everything is “potentially” dangerous. But like I said, other than the improper signage, it does seem to work according to 30 year old code requirements. “In theory, ANYONE could come and do this”. Sure if they had the fire recall key to begin with, and I’m sure their aren’t to many people walking about with an old US 35 recall key.
I find that U.S. elevators are always weird (and a bit cheap)... That fire service demo has got to be one of the more interesting ones out there, that's for sure!
For you dieselducy, make a trip down to Tampa FL sometime. Lot's of places to check out especially at the JW Marriott newly built with Florida's first Mitsubishi lifts. Stop by the Columbia restaurant in Ybor City when or if you are there! 😊😊
Did you somehow get permission to put the elevator into fire mode? I don’t know why you even put a fire service mode on this, how can a building made of bricks and asphalt catch on fire?
I think its supposed to be a light (the wording on it suggests it is intended to alert whoever is in the elevator car that they should return to the lobby)
And actually this is one of the reasons Id say newer elevators are better because this doesnt have any of the fancy bells and whistles you would see nowadays
On this elevator it might just go back into normal service, but on newer elevators, it will remain in fire service until the key is turned to bypass/reset
"Smoke free facility, I wonder if that applies if the building is on fire"... classic Andrew quote

I have always wanted to see a better take of this in Fire Service! :D
Huge fan, new elevator photographer in town
Welcome to the elevator community! Andrew a.k.a. Dieselducy was a huge inspiration for me to start my own UA-cam channel eight years ago in 2013.
@@JordanLoweElevaToursCanada my inspiration was in 2017-18

This is a very interesting set up on how this elevator worked with the fire service feature on this elevator before ThyssenKrupp modernized it
Can’t wait to watch a classic from you ;)
Their camera is best quality than security camera.
Even though this would be unsafe, I still would kill for a ride on a US Elevator of this model. They are truly one of a kind.
john elevator fan you're right
Where i live, call cancel buttons are non existent (however, in fire service, selecting a different floor will cancel the previous call)
Interesting.
@@DieselDucyYes, there's no call cancel button and also no phase 2 in Europe and the UK.
This video is sure a DieselDucy Classic. Really like it!
00:00:57 loved how you called the lantern the “dinger thing”
This elevator has since been modernized
Yes and at this rate, I feel like we should be glad for the mod
This is very unsafe, especially for a fire fighter
You see that red button that does not do anything when you press it? That is supposed to be the call cancel button, and it is broken completely.
Yep
imagine a firefigher trying to rescue someone, using a lift w/ fire service enabled and getting stuck in there.
It’s funny how elevators and fire alarm keys have these funny letter/number names (like the Simplex B key)
Here's another dangerous aspect: when you turn the key off, It should send the car automatically to the recall floor, but it doesn't.
I guess it’s a good thing it got a mod at this rate

How did you get your older US keys? For collective purposes I want them, but can't seem to find them anywhere accessible to me.
I forgot where but I got the codes and had a locksmith cut them.
Ahh ok. Thank you

There’s another video of this elevator in for fire service to!
It was at the Elmwood parking garage
We have a classic lift (elevator) at work you have to open 2 sliding doors to get in and out

“Smoke free facility, I wonder if that applies if the building is on fire” Needless to say I don’t think it applies if the building is on fire.
Even though fire service isn’t really necessary here, I can see this being a reason the elevator got modded.
I can see that you are trained to do all of this with the fire service mode on the elevator.
Did you somehow get permission to put the elevator into fire mode?
I don’t know why you even put a fire service mode on this, how can a building made of bricks and asphalt catch on fire?
this was done a long time ago. I guess a car could catch on fire there.
Ask if you can do it on the modded elevator now?
Good thing that they moded it
Nice US Elevator but they modernized by thyssenkrupp in 2015 at the Elmwood Parking garage
yep
That's a nice 1984 US Scenic. Garage is in good shape for its age too.
It is modded now
@@DieselDucyAnd since it was modernized, it has been neglected by the City of Roanoke.
Guess this is unreleased where he get interrupted by office calls.
What happened to that one scooter you had at the time this videos was taken?
still have it, needs an engine rebuild
Im assuming thats why it was modernized because it was breaking alot of fire service safety standards

Is this one of the reasons why the elevator got modernized

What’s the outro music called.
Remember when you did this and you got called into work?
What would happen if you switched it right to off when taking out of phase 1?
