The Jade emperor did order his death 3x at the beginning of the story and some death gods tried to take him to the underworld. They also humiliated him all throughout heaven by giving him a lowest divine title. They also sent some enforcers to beat and bully him into submission. I think what the Monkey King did to them was just karma.

Buddha saw the power of Wu kong and knew what kind of a potential threat he would be the universe that is why Buddha interfered on this battle. Buddha wanted Wu Kong to control his emotions as Wu Kong was more like on drugs, (violent, impatient, and dangerous. Well it was happened because of what Happened to Wu Kong but you understand the potential Wu kong is). So Buddha had a plan, Buddha decided to Seal Wu Kong under a mountain for 500 years until he calms down, and then Buddha has ordered a Monk to release the Wu Kong, which monk does after 500 years. Then for gratitude the Wu Kong decides to follow Monk's path. And there Wu Long finally said to be become enlightened. And from that Wu Kong's story ends.
