    Somewhere in there is an amazing game, but the performance and bugs are inexcusable. I hope that some day they release a patch to fix these games. It’s almost just like Cyberpunk in the sense of empty promises of an open world that falls flat.

      I’ve seen comparisons to Cyberpunk, and I agree. I hope Gamefreak really takes a look at fan criticism this time.

      @@TamValleyProductions tbh I doubt most of our criticisms will be taken seriously bc no matter if the game is well made or not, any new Pokémon game will print millions of dollars for them

    Despite the many performance issues with S&V I had way more fun in the two hours of these games than the entirety of SWSH.

    at first I was upset about the level scaling too, but once I completed the area to the right of mesagoza, I changed my mind. the klawf fight, the aratazon gym, and the mela fight felt like a great mix of difficulties. the klawf fight was easy but I liked the story progression with arven and sense of discovery it had. the artazon fight was medium-difficulty for the point my pokemon were at, and was a good introduction to the benefits of terrastalizing (even though it's not my favorite gimmick visually, I think mechanically it offers WAY more to diversify battle strategies than dynamax did). then, after you've learned about terrastalizing, you're sent off to the mela fight which was a huge jump in difficulty for me. not only are mela's pokemon stronger, but the battle tests you type matchup knowledge in the face of a new type-changing mechanic, and like the klawf fight, has rewarding story beats woven into it. in between all these matches, I explored waaaaaaay further up the map all the way to the ice area. I was pleasantly surprised to find the level scaling wasn't actually linear? there was a huge spike in wild pokemon levels towards the middle of the map near the lake, and then they came back down the further up I went. I've also been able to use my lower level pokemon to successfully battle and catch higher level ones, and either store them in my box for later team building, or breed them using the new, simplified breeding mechanics and have a lower level pokemon to raise on my own. I also found with all the time spent just wandering around not engaging with the story beats, I noticed a LOT of details. I noticed new pokemon behaviors like that new little spider dude hanging from a tree branch to sleep, or different Pokemon's unique despawn animation like jigglypuff drifting off in the wind, or electrode exploding. I thought they'd been totally removed from legends but they were just altered and some even made more unique! I did find myself missing some of the movement options from legends, but I don't really mind the lack of a sense of danger. if this game set in modern times made paldea feel as dangerous as ancient hisui, it would take away some of the unique, mature atmosphere of legends. I do wish the world had more detail, especially the lack actual buildings. that's been my biggest disappointment so far. (did they think players would be annoyed by loading screens into buildings?? I'm frankly more annoyed at how long it takes the shops to load as just menus). paldea seems to be a much cozier world than the wilds of hisui, but with something sinister brewing underneath, and it's really pulled me in so far!

      This is a detailed description of how I feel about the game too! I really like it. I also hoped for level scaling, but I found that it’s still challenging enough without it since I started by going to the right. There are quite a few unique Pokemon animations/interactions if you’re looking for it, I noticed some Pokemon will gather around you if you get into camera mode. I also found the animations when a Pokemon falls asleep/gets bored after you idle for a bit adorable, and when you talk to them they all act really happy to see you! I did find the map kind of frustrating and confusing to navigate because of the lack of landmarks, though. The routes didn’t stand out enough. Overall it’s a huge step up of SwSh despite being rushed.

    Lie seems like a strong term. I’m not the only one who’s gone around doing things in whichever order they pleased. I basically went in a lopsided circle where I snuck my way around the big gym’s town, fought the open sky titan, swam to the psychic town, realized it was too strong then snuck my way around the big gym town again and fought the Normal gym leader where he was a genuine challenge, fought the poison Team Star base, then the Fire Team Star base, Klawf, and the grass Gym leader. I still have another circle I can go through of stuff to do.
    Just because there is an “intended” way of doing things doesn’t mean it’s not open world.

    I mean even Elden Ring has no level scaling. At least with Pokemon you are given more avenues to prep yourself.

    Despite the performance issues I had a lot of fun with this game. The 3 separate stories are a welcomed additions AND they actually feel like a full on story rather than just side quests. Each story as an end and ultimately comes down to the actual ending after completing all three storylines (this part was my favorite out of the entire game)
    If it weren’t for the performance issues this game could’ve been better. But as a Pokémon game the music and story is very good.

    Maybe it’s just cause I haven’t played a Pokémon game before, but so many of these critiques just don’t make sense to me 🤷‍♀️ I have no interest in talking to random npc’s, and honestly every time I’m in an interior cell it feels awkward and I want out - I definitely don’t want more of those. I also don’t understand the level scaling / “proper progression” section. The game leaves things so open ended. I immediately wanted to take on all the titans, so that’s what I prioritized, taking maybe 2 or 3 gyms along the way as I got distracted. I’d just get to the challenge, build my best team for it, level them as needed, and then beat it when I could. I really don’t see what’s stopping you from progressing how you want. Like, the false dragon titan is pretty powerful for example, but if you just spend an hour or so building up your team, you can get it done easy. Now, those Pokémon may not be helpful at the next high level place you find yourself (for me the ice gym) but you just start again. Also, the Pokémon behavior becomes much more noticeable at higher leveled regions. Tauros always chases you, for example, and I find it p hard to dodge Espathra and Veluza. I also don’t want a sense of danger or urgency while exploring 🤷‍♀️ I want to explore and feel like a kid wandering around paradise. The inside of the crater is supposedly far more dangerous, and I hope that’s true. I can understand why having an area like that is good for the game. Personally though, I love the nonchalance of this game. I’ll be training a team for one gym, and run so far away that now I’m distracted by this raid, or I’m chasing one of my favorite Pokémon that I haven’t yet caught. It’s so casual, so go at your own pace, and for me, that makes the kitschy kiddiness of Pokémon work. I also haven’t had any performance issues or bugs, so I simply can’t speak to that. And just one last nitpick to round it all off, I felt the opening cutscenes were dragging on by the end of it all 😂 I know it seems like I’m just being a giant contrarian, but I genuinely feel so differently from the rest of y’all about so many of the things being discussed here

    I haven’t played S/V, but your take seems like a very fair assessment! I’m sure I would enjoy parts of this game, but I’m just not interested in dumping dozens of hours into a mediocre experience.
    Personally, Breath of the Wild has simply set the bar so high for AAA titles. I suppose it’s not really fair to compare the two, given the development time, but as a long time fan, I can’t help but wish for more from this franchise. I want Pokémon to live up to its full potential, and deliver a game that will really hook me. Instead every new iteration seems to be more of the same and “a good stepping stone for the next title”. Maybe I’ll return to main series in a few more generations, haha

    The days of each city in pokemon having its own thing having its own identity are gone. In Paldea every city sells the same thing. Gen 1-4, each city had its own lore. I finished violet and I dont remember the city names or even what cities stood out. At least with the older generation games the cities/towns where special. Lavender town tower, cinnabar had the mansion, the dept store in celedon with the old guy in front of the gym, npcs had lore, these new gen games is empty, nothing memorable.

    • @TamValleyProductions
      @TamValleyProductions  Рік тому +1

      That's a good point. I'm about 2/3 of the way through Paldea and I'm having the same issue. I think aesthetically these towns are pretty neat and they offer an incredible sense of scale (i.e. they feel closer to the size and population of real towns than ever before), but it all falls apart when, like you said, the shops are repetitive and the remainder of the town is inaccessible and purely decorative.

    I feel almost the exact opposite of you, haha. I prefer these games over Legends: Arceus, and frankly, it's not even close. This world feels much more alive to me, the routes are designed better, and I love that I can actually battle trainers again. Also, I remember the wording of the game on the pre-release website implied that gym leaders and other important events would not level scale. While that's obviously disappointing, I'm not sure it's fair to say we were misled.
