I’ve got the main gear element 3, their vector line is the same as this shell, I think the vector was a eh build, but the element has an amazing chassis and it’s plastic but feels like aluminum covered with just a thin layer of rubberized plastic which I love, Dave 2D says he prefers his razer to these but I’d disagree, the hard metal edges get annoying and the hardware isn’t even close to where it should be for the price razer charges, great laptops still, just way to pricey with these making their way to the market. Also the fans on these are a very nice, and kinda soothing noise so it’s fine to have in the background, so just something for a potential buyer.
There are plenty of local/regional brands that sell this same laptop. The original chasis is made by Tongfang and rebranded. Other companies like System76 also order from clevo.
It's a ODM Tongfang, Maingear/eluktronics in US, XMG/schenker in EU, there are also in South Africa by some other name, in china are also under some different name, it just like Clevo & co. in the old days... Same thing I say. I'm in the market for a gaming laptop and could care less about a good webcam, much less about a bad one, just remove it and save me like $50 more... I saw one comment talking about "oh its $2700, the least they could do is add a good mic and 1080p webcam" and I'm just like stfu dude. If you're streaming for a living, you're gonna buy a much better, much much more expensive gaming laptop... this is for the gamer that wants some great performance at a decent price, not someone who's worried about 'REEEE mY wEbCaM qUaLiTy!1!1'.
Thank you soooo much for this review. I was looking at the G14 but they don’t offer the black model with the higher end graphics card. I wanted to avoid the backlighting issue on the keyboard. However this laptop seems like a better buy.
The wattage spikes in "beast mode" is allowing ryzen's performance algorithm free control over the power necessary to hold clockspeeds at as close to peak as possible. If you look at where the other modes had dips, it roughly corresponds with a peak in beast mode power.
morever, in beast mode GPU raises wattage and CPU is only 2.5% slower than the desktop equivalent CPU from AMD, it's pretty much a desktop Ryzen in this thin and light machine
Awesome video, I have the rp 17 version and I love 💘 my rp 17 Awesome thermals performance. The only thing I want from them is a 2080 version with amd cpu 4800h. Thanks again
I have an older model of a similar chassis (Walmart Overpowered 15+) that is by Tongfang as mentioned by others here. Though it seem to be good value for money, the finishing was rather poor with sharp edges where the wrists are, and the USB 3.0 ports were flaky and unreliable (data transfers to external drives would drop out). Hopefully they've fixed some of these issues.
It's either a Clevo or Tong Fang OEM. It's everywhere... World wide. Please research. Eluktronics is just providing warranty and hardware support. Basically after sales support.
I evaluated this laptop before buying the G14. The BIG problem was the battery life. Considering other Eluktronics laptops have beefier batteries figured they just threw this laptop out there to say hey we have a Ryzen laptop too!
I got one note in that upgradability. A couple channels state the omen 15 with same chip that the Ryzen 7 8core can only be maxed out to 32 and the intel can only go to 64. Yet you state the Ryzen can max ou to 64??
owner of an ASUS TUF A17 here..... i loved my laptop at first, but then i watched hardware unboxed's brutal review of the A15 (a similar laptop), and realized that this laptop runs hot and has poor screen quality. i can get around the high temperatures of this laptop by changing the processor performance boost mode, which lowers the temperatures from high 80s to high 70s. but then i realized when playing games how dim the screen is at times. also, ASUS made the bizarre decision to block some of the hexagonal vents under the laptop with plastic. wtf? i think you were right when the big companies like ASUS could make their laptops better, but it's almost like they don't want to. it's still a good laptop though, even if hardware unboxed is right about these two flaws.
Yes. Pretty frustrating that that fact isn’t highlighted clearly because when taking that into account the laptop is in fact available throughout the world
Eluktronics makes awesome laptops Max 17 is my fav I just wish the newer model comes with a better keyboard and Type C charging, Other than that its a beast of a machine and can be compared with any thin and light gaming Laptop
I'm surprised he's not aware that this is Tongfang chassis, not some novel eluktronics product. XMG, cyber power to name a few have an identical laptop that's similarly priced.
This laptop makes me pissed that Asus can’t get their act together with the a15. Its been on sale for 899 with 4800h has a 92kwh battery 16ram 144hz monitor. But the thermals are ridiculously trash to the point you can’t use the power of the cpu/gpu you pay for. Then there’s the worse screen in the segment... it’s a real shame
I see there is a 17in version of this laptop as well. Is that exactly the same as the 15in model besides the physical size of the machine? Also, do they list the CAS/timings on the RAM modules included?
So better than the Rog Zephyrus G14? If I buy this as a person from the UK, do I need to buy another power adapter/plug 🔌? Or will the one bundled with it work here in the UK?

Kudos to Eluktronics for getting in the fray. I'm always behind the underdog. I hope they are really successful. Unfortunately I wouldn't consider purchasing the RP15 because of the placement of the Webcam. I need a laptop for video editing and I have a need to do zoom meetings with clients while I'm on the road/out and about. I'm simply not going to drag an external webcam with me every where I go and deal with the hassel of setting it up, etc. There are lots of competitors that have decent webcams built in I'm not willing to sacrifice the Webcam to save a few bucks. Hopefully they'll fix the placement of the webcam in the next release.
Never thought I'd say this, but the webcam is a bit of a letdown. It's a bit like shuffling the keys around on a keyboard. A good solution has already been established, so changing something that has become quite essential for using a laptop is a strange decision.
Were the peaks and valleys on the Autodesk Maya perfectly inversely proportional? It looks like in sections where it would drop frequency otherwise, Beast mode devoured the power to keep the frequency high.

Please review Lenovo Legion 5 with 4800H- amazing laptop. I have the RTX 2060 80W varient with me. It gives Cinebench r15 score of 1951 and r20 of 4591. Amazing 144 hz screen with good colour gradient. rugid one. I got it for 999£ with a 8gb 3200mhz RAM and 256gb M.2 storage and a 60 watt battery ( which can be upgraded later on).
Isn't the RTX 2060 in the legion 5 at 115 W?
@@amex4453 GPU-Z shows it as 65 W !
Nice to see a good Ryzen laptop. Still wish I can get a Ryzen 4900H in a 17inch laptop with a color acurate 4k screen.
Looking forward to seeing that will come with the next generation of Ryzen chips
thats a really niche product to cater to, i bet theres very few choices even in intel laptops
@@baseplate8428 Like the XPS 17, Razor Pro 17, Aero 17?
I think there are many creators laptops from almost every OEM including of course Apple with the Mac Book Pro 16
Btw the chassis is not made by Eluktrunics it's made by Tong GANG xD
Have the same laptop (Element 3), chassis is magnesium alloy, feels a bit like thick plastic bit it's actually light metal.
There are plenty of local/regional brands that sell this same laptop. The original chasis is made by Tongfang and rebranded. Other companies like System76 also order from clevo.
"if you want something quieter just buy a desktop"
wow great analyse there
Is that sarcasm

Very nice to see something different, thank you.
Really want this one, but not available in my country, import duty is expensive 😬
You can find the same thing in Europe under XMG brand name.
@@damirobad XMG isn't available in Russia where I'm from
check MAIBENBEN MaiBook P748 on aliexpress/other shops its the same as RP-17
It's a ODM Tongfang, Maingear/eluktronics in US, XMG/schenker in EU, there are also in South Africa by some other name, in china are also under some different name, it just like Clevo & co. in the old days... The prices are quite good, at least for XMG in EU, and also the shipping throughout EU is actually low, I paid about 20eur for shipping XMG core 17 like 2 or 3 months ago and received it from Germany in 4 days...
Finally.. I can’t wait for chips like this with the 3xxxx nvidia cards. FINALLY ... some high refresh oleds... 2021 might be the first time in my life I get a laptop that I actually want and not settle for (17”, oled min 75hz, 1440p/4k, nvidia 3xxxx mobile performance -assuming its what we expect).
Finally, been waiting for this review. In the office mode there is an eco mode that pushes the cou to a 25w TDP. Will you do a review of the 17 inch model?
You should try to review the Eluktronics thicc 15, seems dope
tongfang (ODM of the laptop) always have good performance+thermals, however their QC+QA really needs some work
What QA + QC you talking about?
I'm on team "Delete webcams off gaming laptops because they all suck anyway" it's really great to see an awesome laptop sold for a fair price! Hopefully we'll see more like this in the future!
This channel is so underrated
I would love a thin and light version with this cpu with vega graphics and thunderbolt for an external gpu.
Thank you soooo much for this review. I was looking at the G14 but they don’t offer the black model with the higher end graphics card. I wanted to avoid the backlighting issue on the keyboard. However this laptop seems like a better buy.
If you want it to be quieter. Adjust the fan curve.
Eber is the man! Good to see Eluktronics dip into Ryzen based laptops.
Thunking of purchasing this laptop by december. Now ryzen 5000 mobile cpus are coming. Should I wait?
What is the black cube on the desk at 6:50? Is that a speaker or just a funky light?
will a colling pad be obligatory for better thermals and noise ?
How is their aftersales support though? I don't want to buy a promising laptop but get shit aftersales support when it comes to laptop maintenance.
I got one note in that upgradability. A couple channels state the omen 15 with same chip that the Ryzen 7 8core can only be maxed out to 32 and the intel can only go to 64. Yet you state the Ryzen can max ou to 64??
TongFang is killing it in the laptop market right now
Please do a review of the omen 15 and also a comparison between the intel and amd model, it would be great
owner of an ASUS TUF A17 here.....
i loved my laptop at first, but then i watched hardware unboxed's brutal review of the A15 (a similar laptop), and realized that this laptop runs hot and has poor screen quality. i can get around the high temperatures of this laptop by changing the processor performance boost mode, which lowers the temperatures from high 80s to high 70s. but then i realized when playing games how dim the screen is at times. also, ASUS made the bizarre decision to block some of the hexagonal vents under the laptop with plastic. wtf? i think you were right when the big companies like ASUS could make their laptops better, but it's almost like they don't want to.
it's still a good laptop though, even if hardware unboxed is right about these two flaws.
Does this use Tongfang chasis?
Yes. Pretty frustrating that that fact isn’t highlighted clearly because when taking that into account the laptop is in fact available throughout the world
Eluktronics makes awesome laptops
Max 17 is my fav
I just wish the newer model comes with a better keyboard and Type C charging,
Other than that its a beast of a machine and can be compared with any thin and light gaming Laptop
It was also having Eco mode in control software it will have low noise 🤔
I'm surprised he's not aware that this is Tongfang chassis, not some novel eluktronics product. XMG, cyber power to name a few have an identical laptop that's similarly priced.
The link to the Eluktronics does not work, does the company have a website? Are they in Canada?
I use the similar speakers on the mobile laptop. They are ok but dont get that loud. I only use them for myself, or I use a bluetooth speaker.
I think Asus might be "purposely" sabotaging their amd laptops because of some motivation from Intel;)
I see there is a 17in version of this laptop as well. Is that exactly the same as the 15in model besides the physical size of the machine? Also, do they list the CAS/timings on the RAM modules included?
The first part about other ryzen laptops missed out on the the Legion 5 :(
So better than the Rog Zephyrus G14? If I buy this as a person from the UK, do I need to buy another power adapter/plug 🔌? Or will the one bundled with it work here in the UK?
xmg core 15, thank you
how to fix your bubbles: use a pin to make a tiny hole and release the air.. then stick it back down the hole will not be even visible and no more air trapped. 😎
I'm not 18 years old or 25 years old....so as a working 40 year old man in the tech and software space there's no way I'd say this is just a Gaming Laptop who's spending their own hard earned money on this particular laptop to just play a video game!? I say just like many of all the other laptops this is another great laptop for Programming, 3D Artist, and Graphic Design, using 3D Max, Unreal Engine Editor....etc.
Well, I have limited knowledge on laptops, what is the brand ?did you mentioned the brand anywhere ?
Watching this in my Eluktronics RP-15. :}
Oooo ouch display is shit!! And no thunderbolt 3?? Say what!!
This laptop, vs the omen 15
Which do you guys think is a better deal ?
Depends on what's actually available in your region.
I think the omen is a better battery but on the other hand look way less professional, is louder, heavier, bigger
It is awesome to see how handful of ryzen laptop are with rtx 2060.
It would be great to See comparison with legion 5 17 AMD 4800h Rtx 2060 laptop.
in malaysia we got Illegear and Tech ammory its the best among other the price and performance seem to blow all competitor out of water even in gaming doesn't feel hot at all just nice in my palm
RP17 has the webcam on top, same price as the RP15
Yes and i think the cooling is better on 17" laptop because it's more bigger and so we can have better temperature
@@miguelblaublomme13 Jarrod has reviewed both, and not as much as you might think.
How about a review on the Eluktronics Max series of laptops or the Mech 15 G3 maybe?
I have had both Legion 5 is one of the best! Have you tried Legion 5 with 2060. It’s super quiet. Fan works at high speed but very quit and runs extremely cool. The problem with Eluktronics is that it’s extremely loud.
That built in mic is a freaking dumpster inferno. That was absolutely one of the worst mic’s I’ve heard. Wow, just wow
Are those led light towers just leaning?
for a 62 watt hour battery beating a 99 watt hour battery is super mind blowing.
It seems to be the same chassis of the XMG Core 15 AMD...
Yes, they all use the same chassis from Tongfang.
But it is all magnesium
@@vansen5425 some parts are magnesium, other parts are plastic
