Thank you so much for uploading this and sharing with all of the fans :) :)
Say, can you un-Earth a video of one of Micky Dolenz's appearances at the 80's reunion conventions?
Even one of those would be great fun to see!
I know there's a video of Davy Jones' appearance in L.A. in the mid-80's and he was his usual funny self ... Other ex-Monkees appeared at various conventions as well, and those would be great fun to ogle.

Aspiring country singer? I’ve seen a tv clip where he performed under the name of Michael Blessing but he wasn’t singing country. I do believe he was the reason The Monkees invented country rock and that Davy Jones led to The Monkee invention of Broadway Rock.

Yes, under Michael Blessing Mike was doing more pop and folk songs.

Is Broadway rock really a thing?

It is only bits and pieces. Can't get the full documentary unless you have the channel. I have Directv.

Peter did not stand in line with everyone else waiting for an audition. Right? His friend Stephen Stills did, ( Crosby, Stills and Nash), and he was talented, of course, but did not have teeth and hair suited for tv and was asked if he knew someone who looked like him and he called Peter twice to go in. Micky also did not stand in line, nor did Davy. Now, Mike... I have not heard any stories about him in line. Anyone? I would love to know. I have wondered how he was able to get his own songs on the first album which was pretty much sewn up. I have also wondered if he was working behind the scenes somehow before. I do know that he wore the wool hat to keep his ears warm because he was on his motorcycle and the producers loved it.

Ok. Mike apparently did stand in line. But... Rafaelson saw Mike at the Troubadour and loved his music and asked him to come audition. So... technically, he wasn’t responding to the ad but instead to a request. Now, I’m still not sure how he was able to get his songs on the first album. As Peter has said, he came in with his guitar and the tracks were done already. They just needed the vocals. Perhaps Michael had submitted his songs before The Monkees had been picked???

@@TiaMargarita I don't know the timeline. Would be interesting to find out. Wonder if it's in Andrew Sandoval's book. I just borrowed Mike's book and will check in there. I wonder if the 2 song thing was written in his contract

@@TiaMargarita Not started reading yet. Still finishing up Juliet Naked by Nick Hornby. Pretty good. Wonder if the info you’re looking for is on the Monkees Almanac website. There’s so much there. It’s a really huge collection. Report back if you find out

Margaret, I just watched this bit where Peter says he answered a cattle call, making it sound like he stood in a figurative line. Not sure why he would say that when SS recommended him but maybe they were still interviewing a lot of folks. ua-cam.com/video/M6_hSKyneu4/v-deo.html

It's a crying shame they were never inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame. SMH

Can you watch it on their website? I'm not really familiar with the channel. I know I don't have it on my cable system. Or is it just a web channel? I would like to watch. I've seen bits and pieces here and there.

400+ auditioned for the show not 500+ and The Monkees group ended in 1970 not 1968. The television show ended in 1968.

Need to watch the Smithsonian's documentary on them this Sunday. Kirshner really contradicts himself here. Here he said they could sing, but on the documentary he said they had no talent. What a hypocrite!

Ack. A lot wrong with it (Kirshner, lack of fact) but also a lot oh so right. (Mike) Swoon.
