I think you will absolutely love U2s live performance of Even Better Than the Real thing / Mysterious Ways from their Zoo TV Tour in Sydney. It's so much fun to watch🥰
I had Beautiful Day played at my daughters funeral, on a sunny day she always sang this song, oddly enough we'd just come out of a miserable winter, and we'd gone into a miserable wet March, the day of her funeral the sun was shining.
In a nod to the title, "Even Better Than The Real Thing," there are 4 "blink and you'll miss it" shots where a member of the band is replaced with a double from a cover band of U2 called The Doppelgangers.
Stuck in a Moment was written after Michael Hutchence, lead singer of INXS and Bono's friend, committed suicide. He had a long conversation with another friend on why people give up on life in that way and "Stuck in a Moment" is a direct result of that. So yea definite desperation in his voice. That death really shook him. "Even Better than the Real Thing" is more about a culture of watching everything on tv and not going out and doing real life. The whole pornography thing plays right into that. People sitting home watching porn and fantasizing instead of going out into the world and finding a real lover and a real relationship. The fantasy being 'even better than the real thing." This was in the VERY early days on online culture. At the time it was all dialup and you connected to host PCs. The internet itself started about a year later actually. But people logged into BBS's and got porn and online relationships where the two people were happy just having chat-sex than actually being in the same room together. It's even more of a relevant song today than it was back then. The fantasy always seems "even better than the real thing" until you actually TRY the REAL thing.
Even Better Than The Real Thing was recorded at the same time as Desire (in the 80s) but was shelved until Achtung Baby and then included. Producer Brian Eno was against its inclusion as he didn't like the original lyric/title that was something like 'as good as the real thing' so it was changed to 'even better than the real thing' and he was happy. Bono said the song is about ""It was reflective of the times [the band] were living in, when people were no longer looking for the truth, [they] were all looking for instant gratification.""
Love your U2 reaction video(s), as I knew I would, obviously. I will keep this short and sweet - you are definitely one of the best and sincerest reactors on UA-cam.
There are 3 videos for Stuck in a Moment. The remaster of this changed the aspect ratio and you can see the platforms with mats they used for the Bono falling scenes. These would have been off screen in the 4:3 aspect ratio of old TV's.
You've made this old Irishman's day a lot better. Thank you. Great selection. Some epic U2. I always think of Michael because of that first song and the loss of such talent. So so sad.
You’re picking a great variety of songs in all your reviews. U2’s sound / influences have changed constantly over the years. Many other reactions only do the same 3 songs. Thanks for freshening things up! Also, Even Better Than The Real Thing won best video on MTV awards in ‘92 and was the song that got me into the band.
Great stuff 👏 always enjoy watching your reation to U2 . Side note , stuck in a moment is basically a tribute for Michael hutchence. Keep up the good work ✊️
U2 have a huge back catalogue of amazing songs which explains why they have 23 Grammy awards more than any other band in history, fave song is so hard to pick but to name a few Please, In a little while, Kite, The unforgettable fire, Electric co, Who’s gonna ride your wild horses, Bullet the blue sky, Every breaking wave and Love is blindness
How much i love U2,i will have to second you on being dizzy from Even Better Then The Real Thing lol,but i feel like the sound is telling you that its going to be a little trippy. Its 4 songs i enjoy alot with U2,where i think the exploding positivity from Beautiful Day made it my favourite out of the 4. A recommendation for future episodes? I got the perfect one, wich tends to not get recommended too much: U2 (Feat. Green Day) - The Saints are Coming. U2 and Green Day got together and made a charity song. 2 bands,1 song..... it sounds better then i first expected it to sound, when it released.
As a long time fan of this great band I can not imagine watching these 3 eras back to back in video form for the first time... Really shows how they went through serious artistic levels of pushing the current line. Great selection of videos as always and great reactions.
Before I forget, you must check out their recent release of 40 songs reimagined called Songs of Surrender version of Desire. The Edge sings the entire thing in falsetto and it is everything. He has a very good voice. Once asked why he doesn't sing more, he replied 'What would Bono do?' :D
Oh man, can't believe I just realised you've gotten this far without hearing the two big 2000s singles!! Beautiful Day was my childhood roadtrip song, so it'll always be youth and summertime to me. Also weirdly enough, I knew Stuck In A Moment for years without knowing it was a U2 song. My exposure to the band was pretty much just the Joshua Tree album and their "Best Of" CDs, Irish parents and all, but that one must've gotten skipped every time I suppose, so you can imagine my shock when I saw them perform it live with a big picture of Michael Hutchence behind em😅 I can't name every album off by heart, I don't have more than 3 or 4 of their songs in my main rotation at any one time, but U2 is a band that'll always take me home and make me feel proud to be from a country as beautiful as Ireland. Would love to see you indulge in some Hozier, in the spirit of his new record just being released, another insanely talented and soulful Irish fellow😁
If you want live performance of Even Better than The Real Thing, I would suggest the ZooTv live in Sydney performance only because most recent up until the residency this year have been the remix version being play (Fish out of Water mix to be exact). Beautiful day performance I would go with the Live in Paris performance during the Songs of Innocence + Experience tour only because at the start Bono does some french which actually rhymes with Beautiful day. The other two songs, I don't think there has been a live performance that stands out in my opinion, I mean I am sure they have done them live but to my knowledge, they don't stick out as being oh that's a highlight of a performance unfortunately.
Love watching your U2 reactions! So entertaining! You already watched Even Better Than The Real Thing but there is another funkier version if you are interested. Try watching U2 - Even Better Than The Real Thing (Paul Oakenfold 12 inch Remix) 1991. I think you might be surprised :)
You should do Love Is Blindness Live from Sydney and All I Want Is You and Where the Streets Have No Name (together, they transition between them) from Slane Castle.
Loved this!! Definitely gotta continue the U2 streak! I recommend a live episode where you do Elevation 2005 Milan The Fly 2001 live from Boston Raised by Wolves live 2015 Paris and Ultraviolet live at the Rose Bowl 2009 🎉
It would be a great to see a set of reactions with songs the band has collaborated with other artists. Sweet Fire Of Love with Robbie Robertson. Tower Of Song with Leonard Cohen. I've Got You Under My Skin with Frank Sinatra. Falling At Your Feet with Daniel Lanois. Then maybe B-sides or non album tracks like Holy Joe, Hallelujah Here She Comes, She's Gonna Blow Your House Down, North and South of the River, The Three Sunrises.
You made me laugh with your ‘not so much PG’ comment because you are not the only one to think it 😂 Actually, many years ago, I watched a sort of journalistic analysis about the peculiar characteristics of Bono’s voice. Their theory was that it can be responsible of a major ovulation (can I say it or is this not so very PG either?)
LOVE your channel:) I’d like to gently and seductively steer you towards the 1990’s girl group Eternal. Specifically songs: Stay, Power of a Woman, I am Blessed, and I wanna be the only one. HOT 1990’s girl group who i almost got arrested by because of an ouija board HUGE kiss xx 0:32

Totally agree!!!🎉❤

So sorry for your loss God bless you all
I’m sorry for your loss. ❤️

I love discovering the meanings behind Bono's lyrics. He's an incredible writer.
Aww, Beautiful day. It's a classic U2 hit. Thanks for reacting and reminding of it.
I'll say it: Bono looked good in black vinyl XD
"I can't let you be my lover tonight, because I am dizzy! No! NO!"
😂🤣😂❤

It is now! Haha, thanks! 😂

The Saints are Coming is a cover of a song by an Irish band that influenced U2. You should check out the original!

Great reaction video!!! The live version of Desire I like the most is the one live from Slane Castle, recorded in 2001. I believe you'll like it!

Love it... do live U2 :-)
You should do their song version of Night + Day.
Beautiful Day! ❤️🤩😍
Have you watched “Mysterious Ways”? It’s one of my all time favorites!

listen to u2 vertigo tour sunday bloody sunday - bullet the blue sky one of their best transitions
4 great songs by U2, showing their versatility as a band. By the way, you're beautiful! :)
