Good morning all! Just wanted pop a pinned comment in here as I'm seeing a lot of comments coming through saying how rude the question was. As a UA-camr, I have come to the realisation over the years that many people who watch struggle to understand the concept that they feel they 'know' me when they actually don't. In this situation, they feel comfortable to ask questions that are indeed a little bit intrusive, but I honestly didn't see this particular question as rude at all - a bit intrusive yes, but not rude. That having been said, however, as I say in the video, it's a subject that I've wondered about as well when watching UA-cam videos on other channels, and therefore one that I knew would be of interest to many people. So I thought, why not make a bit of money to put towards my next holiday by addressing the question and chatting about it?! Anyway, hope you enjoy!

Although none of us know you personally it is easy to see how hard working you both are. Also you are not frivolous with your cash neither are you a snob and thats why i like your video s . One life (that we know of) and nothing is easy. Living to our full potential is tough at times. You and Ashley have worked incredibly hard and it’s lovely not only that you enjoy the same things but also that you can have your own space too. I admire your achievements and I admire the way you have raised Will, he’s got your work ethic and he’s a lovely decent caring human being. I have never met any of you but I know all I’ve said is true. Thanks for sharing.

When I was at work, we used to visit the Caribbean every year, travelling first class, for 2 weeks. We worked very hard for this ,and loved it. Now I've retired,we have both been ill,and my husband no longer feels up to going so far...enjoy your holidays, its no ones business but yours. . You work hard,so why not...
Life has surprises in store, so do things whilst you can. Be happy, and have fun xxx

Having worked 42 years in travel and retiring in my early 60's after a health scare I now spend my money on holidays as often as possible. The only months I do not tend to go away is school holiday time as I do not need to. To be fair I do not have children but after working hard from leaving College to retirement age, we worked two jobs to get a house deposit and planned our finances for retirement so now we are going to enjoy every minute seeing the world and our even own country. I still look after my very independent 96 year old mum who has just renewed her passport !! It's valid till she is 106. She still loves travelling. Maybe not as often as myself and husband but at least one cruise and an overseas trip every year. Life is for living as you can not come back and do it again so keep booking those holidays Caroline ❤

I found this video really interesting Mrs M . I’m 62 & semi retired started work at 16 ,bought my first terraced house at 18 for £6000 with a mortgage & over the years have bought & sold 6 times .always worked full time & spells of overtime .Now I’m mortgage free with savings & a small pension & still work part time .I feel like I’ve done my time of hard work & now reap the rewards .In my younger days often our holiday was camping but my children loved it as the years went on we saved & went to Spain or Greece . Now the kids have flown the nest & our time & our money is ours to spend xxx

Personally, I don’t feel that you need to explain yourself Caroline. I got a similar question years ago when I was a single Mum and went on various holidays. Some were in youth hostels, most chosen on cheaper dates, lots of searching brochures and offer pages. Many of the best experiences have been the least expensive. I am at a stage now where I so wished that I had done more once I got in a position of having more money. As you said ‘where did the years go!’ So keep enjoying yourself. Who knows what the future holds for any of us. Thanks for taking the time to film a subject that is really none of anybody else’s business!

I think everyone's story is unique and you do you.
I believe most people make sacrifices and work hard, often the outcomes vary for many reasons. We are often inaccurately told people are ........, because of their own efforts. Education & expectation of life outcomes/possibilities as well as opportunities can/do impact.
People measure success dependent on their own standards. So one size does not fit all.
I love your self motivation and am always inspired and awed by you. I am not sure how self motivated I would be in a similar situation! Thank you for doing what you do in the world, you make the world a brighter place to live. ❤❤❤❤❤

I try to have 2 holidays, at least 1 of them a cruise. I'm almost 68 and still in full-time employment. I work long hours, 12 hour days and nights, BECAUSE I want holidays. I'll be poor when I retire, so I'm making the most of it. Next cruise is November, I'm taking my youngest Daughter who isn't able to afford any holidays. I'm very lucky that I can do this.
    Enjoy Caroline.

Thank you for candour and honesty. I have wondered sometimes how some UA-camrs are able to afford their lifestyle. Many of us have worked hard and started off with little, but not had the opportunities that have come your way.
I recognise that sharing your life on UA-cam must be hard work and you must need your holidays to recharge. .
I wish you well and congratulate you on tackling this tricky subject

Morning Caroline. Interesting to hear you talk about your finances. You both work hard for your money and deserve to do as you wish. I remember when I first got married, we only had enough money for a deposit on a 3 bed new build semi and had bare floorboards for a time along with a cottage suite we bought in a fire damaged sale lol. I'm on my second marriage, now 30 years, and when we got together, again had nothing but worked our way up the ladder. Now both retired, we go away when we want. Enjoy your life, thank you for sharing xx

Hey Caroline ! Thanks for this wee insight into your world, we all appreciate you here - I love your videos, the fashion hauls are always my favourites and as we are the same age and dress size I always get loads of ideas from watching them. I've never wondered how you 'afford' your holidays, it's just never occurred to me ! I try and get away a couple of times a year if I can, I'm a full time carer for my adult daughter and she loves visiting new places and going away so we usually have a UK holiday somewhere and then go abroad - Greece is a firm favourite. You're right in saying that the time of year impacts the cost massively and I also find that booking directly with the accommodation shaves off a few £'s too. Anyway, thanks again for your channel ! Bye for now x

    • @CarolineMrsM
      @CarolineMrsM  2 місяці тому +1

Agree on booking direct - we've booked direct for accommodation the last three times we've been to Greece and saved a lot that way. x

What an interesting video Caroline. When you speak of your dad I can see the love you feel for him. From what I have seen in my life is that nobody really becomes hugely successful without taking risks. It can be said the harder one works the luckier one is. Oh, you're so lucky.😂
Thank you for sharing what I think are very personal aspects of your life.
    Enjoy your holidays.
Keep on with your videos which I always enjoy. I let friends know about you as I feel more people should be aware of your vlogs which I feel are very truthful also with you showing your kindness and letting us know how important family is for you. The families who holiday stay together. 😂
Thanks for sharing what some would find a very personal issue.

A very honest account by you Caroline. My husband and I are both retired and have now started taking more holidays, we didn’t take very many previously and that included when the children were little, economised on other things such as having second hand furniture, careful budgeting etc. Both of us are savers which helps a lot and like you are now not tied to school holidays and work commitments so can take advantage of cheap deals when they show up. Covid taught us that you never know what’s round the corner and as we are both fortunately in good health are making the most of things. Take care and enjoy your next holiday when it comes.

Other than your Dad's business - I think I already knew most of this as a long time subscriber. It's natural curiosity I think, and I don't think that everyone would see it as a rude question. I have had questions myself, not about the affordability, but as someone living in the US, seeing someone take 4 vacations is unheard of unless retired! You explained this well - and I say good on you! I think the one take away is that many people today tend not to save for something that is important. This concept seems to escape many as the term "we deserve it" comes to mind when sticking it all on a credit card. For me, the thought of going on holiday and then having to pay it off for the next year is just nasty! I also think that taking holidays and relaxing helps rejuvenate you for the work ahead.

Agree, I initially thought it was a rude question however I found it very interesting and it should be one of those videos that go around UA-cam. I’m holiday savvy, not well off at all since my break up but still manage 2-3 holidays a year x

Very interesting video! I enjoy watching other people’s trips away but I don’t like going away myself . It’s all the planning, packing, airport hassles , uncertain weather. Being retired I prefer to have days out , coffee stops, nice walks , visiting family . In the past I have lived abroad, gone away so haven’t missed out but now very happy to enjoy other people’s holidays.

Well, thank you for your honesty Caroline. I was reminded of the first sofa I was ever given. It was kept in the person's garage and doubled up as the dog's bed! It was a plastic red and grey two seater with two arm chairs. Took it home, cleaned it like hell then it doubled up as MY bed. With one chair turned in on it so I could stretch my legs a bit like a banana shape. LOL. Moving forward. No children. I could never afford them. Mortgage free and comfortably off. Sacrifices have been made but it is what it is. Everyone's 'journey' is different. Good luck to you. ❤😊

Big thank you for your video, we like you we had a hard time when we first got married my wage was £5.00 and my husband was £35.00 per week, but lived in that budget. Never had any thing new till we saved the money that was back in the 1969. Our weekends were taken up with caravanning and enjoying our selves that way. Plus we had our two children but like you I always worked. When the families got their own lives We always managed to have two good holidays a year plus about four long weekend breaks. We have always brought our homes some needed work on them to improve them. Thank you.x

Caroline, thank you for such an open and frank video. I've always loved my holidays but have certainly found since Covid that the cost, both here and abroad, had risen extortionately. Continue to enjoy all your lovely holidays, both you and Ashley deserve it. X

Hello Caroline, I was surprised to see the title of your video this morning. I have a close friend who has at least 4 holidays a year, probably up to 6 overall.
I wouldn’t dream of asking her how she can afford to go away so often. Like you, we were brought up that it was indelicate to question how others spend their money. Everyone has different priorities & it is a very personal matter.
When I was first married, we couldn’t afford any carpets so we put squares of rush matting over the floors. It didn’t really seem important. Thank you for your openness.

The only down side to having single bank accounts comes when your partner dies. As I found when my hubby died, it cost me over £1,000 and 6 months to get the bank account that his pension was paid into, transferred into my name and also his Premium bonds account. His will stated that it was to come to me, but it wasn’t easy or quick ! 😏

I can resonate with your early days of appreciating the second items for your home , as we did the same, in our 34 years if marriage, we have worked very hard only having 1 holiday a year if that when our boys were younger ...however now recently retired we enjoyed more luxurious holidays 4 -5 times a year and have no bloody guilt about it all , as we could be infirm or even dead tomorrow so make the most of each luxury holiday that comes along in my view😂😂 thanks for the video hope it makes you enough pennies to go on another luxery cruise😂 ❤ take care xx

Well said. We're similar to you. Our first home was furnished with all second hand furniture and appliances, both of us were on low money, no money left for luxuries, and we got around on a little motorbike! We're doing alot better now, have a rental property (that first house), and I work for my husband who is self-employed. It's good not to have money worries any more, but in no way am I complacent, I'm still cautious because you just never know what is around the corner. Love your videos 🙂 xx

That lady who made the comment does have a valid point , but I myself have been in both situations , comfortable , then not and now ok , but you have to make the best with what you’ve got , while you have it . Firstly Caroline, I agree with others that you have no need to explain yourself. It is nobody else's business where your money comes from or how you spend it. Secondly, I do think you've hit the nail on the head with your 'luck, hard work and risk taking' comment. I believe you do need an element of all three to 'make your fortune' as you put it, but especially the risk taking part. As you say, many people work like trojans and many have their fair share of lucky breaks but in my experience you need to risk losing a lot in order to gain a lot. Most people (understandably) aren't that brave - or that stupid! This is what hubby and I have done. Our whole married life has been a bit seat-of-pants TBH! We have bought awful, filthy, ramshackle houses to renovate and we both left steady, safe, well-paid jobs to start a business at the beginning of the credit crunch... all terrifying, and also blummin' hard work, but happily it has worked out and we now find ourselves in a fortunate and comfortable position, financially speaking. So enjoy your holidays. I definitely know the effort it will have taken over the years for you to be where you are now. You and Ashley have earned this and you deserve it! ❤

Hi Caroline, thanks for doing this Video and in no way was I trying to be rude or intrusive as some of your Subscribers have indicated. If you remember my original question I also asked "What is your secret". lol. In other words was wondering if you could pass on any tips or tricks to possibly going on more holidays with my family? This has upset me greatly as it was not my intention to pry into your finances AT ALL... I think its great you get away as often as you do, I was really only curious nothing more, nothing less. So please can you all stop coming for me in the comments. Thank you.

Hi Tracy, as I said in the pinned comment, I didn't find the question rude, and as I said in the video I've wondered about other people's financial situations when watching UA-cam as well. If it's any consolation a lot of other people were obviously very interested to know as well, as it's my most highly viewed video of the last ten I've uploaded so far! Have a great weekend :)

@Tracy-f4e Please don't be upset, Tracey. Caroline saw the bigger picture of your question, and as you pointed out , you weren't being rude or intrusive. I think it's a generational thing, in all honesty. I'm in my late 30s, and it's pretty normal for my friends and I to talk openly about and ask each other about our finances, what we earn, etc. I was surprised some of the commenters were so offended. I think people of different generations were taught to keep those things private. I know you didn't mean to pry - but your question opened up a really interesting topic. x

Caroline I really don't think you need to justify yourself although your story is very interesting! My partner and I both own properties and go on a good few holidays for which I do not feel guilty! We have travelled the world and have had both luxury and budget holidays. We are now retired but retired early from good , well paid jobs. We worked long and hard and have never had children as choice. Certainly have no regrets about that decision. Enjoy the fruits of your hard work which has not been without some sacrifices along the way.. Choices, circumstances and some luck thrown in are what makes life for everyone. Enjoy it while you can!

Very interesting vlog. I know what you mean about our era of not talking about finances. Like yourself though, I don’t really see anything wrong with it personally. Love the snippet of your early days and the carpet. Well remembered that type of thing - our first tiny flat had a very thin carpet which was so thin it actually had small folds in it everywhere and we couldn’t afford to replace it straight away. Everything came slow in those days and was brought by hard work and determination. The good old days 😂

Good for you. Love your openness and honesty Caroline. We sold our house and moved to Spain before Brexit. I am 54 and retired through ill health and hubby has a private pension so we are very very fortunate whilst obviously still will be in receipt of our UK pensions. We had great City of London jobs so sold and bought property. Here in southern Spain people (mostly people from the north funnily enough) ask how we are able to do this.. i get called a rich bitch. Noones business. People are always quick to judge and make assumptions.
We are off on holiday soon as well......😂❤ Plus I do have some northern friends 😂👍
