At first, I didn't like her, but she grew on me. She's my favorite character on the show. I would watch a spin off if she was the main character of the show.

Can you do video for Chrisjen Avasarala, the woman that does what god name she pleases. She always rides most insane rollercoasters without knowing where it stops and when.
Major Kira was often overdone and forced, especially in the first year. And her little fists repeatedly took down big male opponents throughout the series, taking the notion of female empowerment a bit too far. Bobbie's actions are far more natural and believable on screen. DS9 was a great series, though, with some excellent writing and acting.

Fun fact... Frankie Adams's (Bobbie's actress) height is 180cm (5' 11") and RX-78-2 Gundam height is also exactly 18.0 m. Coincidence? Almost certainly. But it does leave some room to wonder if it was intentional...

He isn't a blank and isn't psychically sensitive in any way but he's the greatest warrior of the imperium. Besting any grey knight and being an all around cool dude. Every Saturday at 5:00 pm imperial standard time he goes into the warp and enjoys a warm cup of tea with Kaldor Draigo then spends over ten septillion unstandard tzeentchian tetonomers in the warp in an epic crusade. Then exits the warp out of a random psyker, slaps Guillimans metallic asscheeks because only pussies use plot armor then goes about his day singlehandedly saving half the imperium with his legion of the damned. Wow I can embellish stories better than blind harry talking about Scottish heroes.
I'ts really hard to pick up a favorite character on The Expanseverse, Bobby is a Top choice! My perfect expanse woman will have the Leadership, Eyeliner and accent of Camina, The Cunning, voice and garments of Avasarala, The morals, the gaze and strenght of Draper. Bobbie is awesomely brave and badass. I don't think she started see the Martian corruption because she was individualistic, I think it was because what her superiors were asking of her was for her to throw one of her men under the bus which directly conflicted with her moral code. She couldn't understand why they were asking her to go along with betraying another Martian Marine.
It's suprememly important to differentiate between Frankie Adams playing the part of a character in a book - and how good she does - and what the script or book describes. Adams did a great job, and props to who cast her in the role - another actress probably would have been a flop. Give credit to the what happened in the tv show, but give more credit to the actor filling the part so well.
And for me, she doesn't quite fit. She (Ms. Adams) gives her all, but in the end I don't see a hard marine when I look at her. Never have. I think it might be the long hair.. Dunno. At times I think (with short hair) Ms. Faivre who played Julie Mao would have been better in the part.

The giant, toned Martian war goddess entered the air lock wearing little more than a skin tight racing suit. Holden felt his lizard hind brain vasillate between "mate with it" " FLEE FROM IT" " mate with it" "FLEE FROM IT". Holden managed to fumble through some conversation to Bobby's amusement.

The line "that's recon gear, she could feed you that pistol if she wanted to" is a line from the book and refers to Bobby's reaction speed and strength being greatly enhanced to the point where she' might be able to take the pistol away from the soldier before she can finish pulling the trigger
Except that in the books, Bobbie is basically described as being a giant bodybuilder, much bigger than even the average martian marine. Instead, they cast someone who might as well have been cast as a disney princess.

Besides that though, this actor isn't a disney princess, nor are there many female "giant bodybuilder" types available. I imagine the casting directors look for who fits the physical description, then it degrades to, who has the acting chops and can do the job, even if they don't look like the original description. Well, as far as writing is concerned, Bobbie is an interesting and complex character that goes through an arc that has her questioning her allegiances, disillusioned by what she's witnessed. She's a character that I always to keep watching to see what she does or what happens to her next. Compare that to these 40k space marines which while very good at going out and killing stuff are fairly one note. The ones that actually get names and backstories are pretty much known simply for their incredible badass feats in battle. So, in that regard, yeah they are kind of a joke.
Bobbie has more morals than most humans in the 21st century, especially soldiers She would have executed those Neo-Nazis in the attempted coup of the US Capitol
The one place you are wrong with Bobbie is about those sandwiches. That is the most military thing she does in the series, food you can't get in the field, available = eat it! I was unsure of her until this very moment.
Bobbie was another really well written character in the books which transferred over to the screen. In a way her and Amos have that same kind of tactical thinking and approach to things but one is by training and Amos' was because of life. Great character and well casted.
You know, Ben, as a United States Marine, even though it's Mars, when they're yelling MMC, it makes my heart swell. Captured USMC behavior perfectly. Let me just quote Elanor Roosevelt, “The Marines I have seen around the world have the cleanest bodies, the filthiest minds, the highest morale, and the lowest morals of any group of animals I have ever seen. Thank God for the United States Marine Corps!” We are proud. EDIT: It wasn't the easiest way, probably, for Bobby to get the Razorback, BUUUUUUUUUUUT... You give a Soldier a grenade and say "Take out that tank." That soldier will take out that tank, but it'll probably be sophisticated and smart (for lack of better explanation). Marine, same scenario. Runs at the tank and finds a way to take out said tank. We all get the job done, we just do it via diverse methods. Marines take it head on, because either pride or stupidity, we must get it done.
One of the best sci fi shows Ive ever seen. Yalls lore videos got me to go binge watch and the science/tech is wild. Also Bobbie Draper is a bad bitch.

I haven't gotten to 4th season yet. But I'd like to imagine Bobbie channeled her inner Russian Widowmaker: "My own government got my entire fire team killed and risked a bloody interplanetary war for a goddamn weapons test. You say I am to be dishonourably discharged? I say, what good are honours from people like you?"
Bobbie's definitely my favorite Sci-Fi character since Starbuck, with Drummer a close second. Her interactions with Avasarala are some of my favorite scenes - they're both adorably blunt with that sort of deadpan humor that kills me. I hope we see more of them together.
In theory she should be the most 2D character in the show but like Amos is surprisingly deep. I can't think of anyone other than Amos and Bobbie that I want to have at my back when the manure hits the fan.
I think the Travis part was also important because he could have hurt her career. When his teammates were picking on him from being on Earth and Bobby hit him....Travis was still loyal to Bobby and his teammates. Most people would have threw them under the bus but he didn't. By not turning them in, the squad started to believe in him. Also, when Bobby went to the beach and saw Earthers struggling, I think it help Bobby understand why Travis parents left Earth to give their son an opportunity to have a greater purpose. Then the Marian government was going to place the blame on Travis which would ruin his reputation and Bobby struggled with that because she knew it was wrong and he believed in the dream of Mars. Another big thing was seeing the beach with her own eyes. When she asked the Chaplain for a chance to see the beach he even lied about the condition of the beaches. He wanted her to believe the oceans were toxic...but it was a beach. I think if he told her the truth and allowed her to see the beach she would have stayed loyal to Mars. That final lie was the straw that broke the camel's back and forced Bobby to no longer be a soldier who just executed superior orders, but to start thinking for herself.

It is very satisfying to see her punches. You can feel the "OOMF" of the fist in your bones.

The line "that's recon gear, she could feed you that pistol if she wanted to" is a line from the book and refers to Bobby's reaction speed and strength being greatly enhanced to the point where she' might be able to take the pistol away from the soldier before she can finish pulling the trigger

I rarely see people talking about Bobbie - Frankie Adams - but she is great.
Props to Adams, as well as whoever cast her in the part
Except that in the books, Bobbie is basically described as being a giant bodybuilder, much bigger than even the average martian marine. Instead, they cast someone who might as well have been cast as a disney princess.
@@paul-luukprofijt7134 rarely does the casting match what was described in the books. Besides that though, this actor isn't a disney princess, nor are there many female "giant bodybuilder" types available.
I imagine the casting directors look for who fits the physical description, then it degrades to, who has the acting chops and can do the job, even if they don't look like the original description.
I think she did a great job. Not saying others could have also done a great job.

Well, as far as writing is concerned, Bobbie is an interesting and complex character that goes through an arc that has her questioning her allegiances, disillusioned by what she's witnessed. She's a character that I always to keep watching to see what she does or what happens to her next. Compare that to these 40k space marines which while very good at going out and killing stuff are fairly one note. The ones that actually get names and backstories are pretty much known simply for their incredible badass feats in battle. So, in that regard, yeah they are kind of a joke.
Bobbie has more morals than most humans in the 21st century, especially soldiers

Bobbie was another really well written character in the books which transferred over to the screen. In a way her and Amos have that same kind of tactical thinking and approach to things but one is by training and Amos' was because of life. Great character and well casted.
You know, Ben, as a United States Marine, even though it's Mars, when they're yelling MMC, it makes my heart swell. Captured USMC behavior perfectly.

You give a Soldier a grenade and say "Take out that tank." That soldier will take out that tank, but it'll probably be sophisticated and smart (for lack of better explanation).
Marine, same scenario. Runs at the tank and finds a way to take out said tank. We all get the job done, we just do it via diverse methods. Marines take it head on, because either pride or stupidity, we must get it done.

I'm just glad they gave Bobby more of a story in the show. Her absence in books 3&4 is mind-boggling.
One of my favorite moments from the books that I wish was in the show was Bobbie vs Amos in a fist fight. Wont spoil it, but it was great.

Bobbie's definitely my favorite Sci-Fi character since Starbuck, with Drummer a close second. Her interactions with Avasarala are some of my favorite scenes - they're both adorably blunt with that sort of deadpan humor that kills me. I hope we see more of them together.

In theory she should be the most 2D character in the show but like Amos is surprisingly deep. I can't think of anyone other than Amos and Bobbie that I want to have at my back when the manure hits the fan.

I think the Travis part was also important because he could have hurt her career. When his teammates were picking on him from being on Earth and Bobby hit him....Travis was still loyal to Bobby and his teammates. Most people would have threw them under the bus but he didn't. By not turning them in, the squad started to believe in him. Also, when Bobby went to the beach and saw Earthers struggling, I think it help Bobby understand why Travis parents left Earth to give their son an opportunity to have a greater purpose. Then the Marian government was going to place the blame on Travis which would ruin his reputation and Bobby struggled with that because she knew it was wrong and he believed in the dream of Mars. Another big thing was seeing the beach with her own eyes. When she asked the Chaplain for a chance to see the beach he even lied about the condition of the beaches. He wanted her to believe the oceans were toxic...but it was a beach. I think if he told her the truth and allowed her to see the beach she would have stayed loyal to Mars. That final lie was the straw that broke the camel's back and forced Bobby to no longer be a soldier who just executed superior orders, but to start thinking for herself.
A year or two late but this was good. Great description of Bobbi
