I have a 2015 USA pro strat with the Shaw bucker pickup in the bridge position.... I very seldom play the guitar because their some of the worst pickups I've ever played.... was looking for a better solution rather than having to switch out that pickup and ran across your video..... I'm gonna give it a try.... either way that pickup will be coming out of that guitar regardless if this works or not... anything has to be better. I see some people in the comments want to argue with you about your mod.... I don't pay attention to those kinda people' don't know until you give it a try and that's what I'm planning on doing.
@@BryanClark-gk6ie thank you 🙂 yeah go for it if its a pickup you don't like anyway might a well give it a try in worst case you have to switch them out but you were planning to do it anyway 👍 stay awesome and cool and thank you again 😁
Hello, I really like this idea for a broken pickup. Do you think I could replace the iron slugs in the north coil with magnets like in a fender pickup? Sort of like the Lollar Alnico pole soapbar.
@@henriquen.8611 you can I've done it on strat pickups it easy on a p90 you could run into issues with polarity you can take the neck and middle pickups on a strat and wire them together keep on lead from one pickup and connect the ground from that pickup to the next ones lead and then use thar pickups ground as a ground so there really are a lot you can do👍🙂👍
I prefer real p 90s to humbucker sized p 90s. Some humbucker sized p 90s kind of get close. I never liked the ones constructed like how you did because they sound somewhat straty to me. Some have a bigger bobbin the wires go around bringing it closer to the actual construction of a p 90. The thing that really really makes a p-90 a p-90 is it's size and construction, but like I said things get pretty close. I've used real p 90s, and a few humbucker sized ones. A gfs mean 90 gets pretty close, they offer a dream 90 that when you tear it apart it looks more like what you did.
@@theoutsider3576 haha yeah I have some old pickups that I'm going to do some more mods to just go crazy you're not using them anymore so if they break is no big deal but if you find something super cool you'll be the next jimi hendrixs 🤟😆🤟
@@zurowetz Upon conducting some research, I realized that I was mistaken. I initially believed P90's were stacked coils. However, what many refer to as a stacked coil P90 is, in fact, a P100.
This is really stupid because it's not a P90 at all a P90 has a different size to the coil of the wire creating a different magnetic field that gives you a whole different sound. what you're doing is just making a single coil pickup
@@zurowetz no it isn't you need to study magnetic coils because the size and shape of the coil makes a difference in the sound and you're never going to change the size and shape of the coil in a humbucker pickup without totally dismantling the wire and putting it on a new bobbin it is impossible to make a P90 out of a humbucker
@@zurowetz another way to describe it is the difference between fenders Strat single coil pickup and their Jazzmaster pick up the Jazzmaster pickup has a coil that's flatter and covers more surface area I'm not saying a Jazzmaster pickup is a P90 cuz it's not but that's what the difference is the size and shape of the magnetic field created by the coil
Tweed might be a nice covering because it looks cool
@@charlesrubitschung7592 cool idea 😃👍

Would it work with the original magnet with one of the other 2, or you need a pair of similar magnets ?
@@bwa_8 you need a pair of similar magnets to turn it into a p90 but you can experiment and come up with something different maybe something new 😁
