Those pads work great but they do come apart. Don't forget to thoroughly clean the loose abrasive material out of any engine internal areas. Wouldn't want that stuff circulating in the lubrication system.
Down and dirty. Thanks for sharing. That is a great tip, now we have to get you to link the product to your amazon account so when we buy it you get credit. Thanks again
Good ol' scuff pad and brake clean. Gets the silicone off without damaging the cross-hatching. Mercedes Benz tells us to leave a teeny tiny layer of old silicone on, because they also tell us to spray a "preparer" on before applying new silicone. Supposedly this softens the old silicone and makes it act as a sort of scaffolding for the new silicone to meld into. I never saw a difference either way, it didn't seem to matter if I left some silicone on or cleaned it to a shine, it didn't leak. Benz is weird.
Method i have been using for years. If you want to get that little bit off Around the edges careful use of a 45-90° pick works well don't drag the tip across the surface use the round edge.

When I was a kid, my dad would pour some gas in a pan then wash his hand off after working on the car 😄
