I completely lost it when they ripped Trico's tail off. I lost it even more when I had to send him away. I'm still asking myself things like: "Why didn't he get help?" "Why didn't the boy try to say Trico's not bad at all?" "Did his tail grow back?" "Did they meet up again?" Still so sad. This was the first time I legit cried and worried about a digital friend.
There is a book: "The Last Guardian: An Extraordinary Story". Wich answer many questions about game. And according to this book, yes tail grow back if it's damaged. Just like a lizard)
-SPOILER ALERT THEORY BELOW- I love this theory: The entity, the master of the valley, was worshipped by an ancient civilisation long ago, and in return for sacrifices (the marked children) it would provide them with unlimited energy. The soldies kept the peace, and the Tricos were bred to be guardians, able to fight and save people by keeping them in their stomachs. There was an uprising however, as the people no longer wanted their children sacrificed, and the city collapsed. The master of the valley begun controlling the Tricos to bring it sacrifices, tricking them into thinking they were feeding children at a nest, and rewarding them with the barrels. As the title suggest, Trico is the last guardian to fulfill his duty of protecting people.
It was in fact made on purpose ! Like Fumito Ueda said in interviews, the challenge was to make the creature realistic in its behaviour but also not to annoying to «control» so you could still enjoy playing and making progress. This IA and the game in general is actually fantastically designed :)

Fun fact; just like most species of birds, the tricos with colored ears (blue/green/purple) are male and the ones with dark or brown ears are female. So the boy’s trico was male, and the “evil” trico that lost its head armor’s female! BABIESSSS

Also, if he could have stayed in the village, the humans would have used him for war or something like that. Pewds thought that the other Tricos died because of the fall, but remember that when our Trico fell he survived and his armor was released. I like to believe that they all live in peace now

They don't understand his movements. This was clearly set back in times where superstitions and religion was the only thing's you could believe, and science wasn't really there. For all they could know, Trico could've been aiming to eat and him and missed him because of his injuries.

when you realize that kid was lucky because his trico got struck with lightning. so the tattoo progression got halt (but anytime he got swallowed by trico, his body got more tattoo, that's why if pewdiepie failed to destroy the third bell, and got eaten. its game over). because his tattoo is bind tattoo that paralyze him. if the tattoo finally covers his body, he can't move anymore. hence why there is robot armor, to makes sure no child escape, if the trico failed to bring the child to that falcon statue.

As a spectator I can say this game was an amazing experience, I witnessed the bond between this tortured soul and a young child grow a lot through many hardships, and it was beautiful. Seeing how they saved each other was beautifull and at the same time really sad, I loved this playthrough, thanks Pewds.

PewDiePie There were 3 Tricos at the end the biggest one was Yours 2nd was the one with the broken mask. the only reason that one was alive was because he wasnt under control due to not having the mask and the other Tricos had fallen to their death. your Trico in the beginning was placed down there to die because he couldnt serve as a slave anymore and u were able to connect to him because its like having a cat dog fish(dog) mindset. and before he took u to your village they made a connection and it might've ended with them bringing back the race. (this is all a thought but you can easily put them together like this)
Nova's Personal Channel I don't think that all the tricos died when they fell. When trico fell in the flashback by getting struck by lightning, he survived (just about) and got better, so maybe more than the 3 could have survived

A happier ending: Trico continued his flight through the ruins in search for the boy. He crash landed onto the villages land as he looks up at him and sees how much he has grown up as he is holding the mirror sharing his story with the young village children. Trico and the man unite and hug, they lay among the stars for hours. Tricos tail has fully grown back and has recovered remarkably the man notices, he climbs up on Tricos back and the two fly through the night sky sight seeing. Trico and the man land back in the village, Trico is welcomed to stay as a protector of the village by the village people after they see he is the man's companion and is friendly. The next morning the village sit down with the man and he tells the whole village his story whilst standing next to the beast, they listen in amazement. The man finished his story and the village to this day are thankful to have Trico as their protector (and form if transport haha). 😁

when you realize that kid was lucky because his trico got struck with lightning. so the tattoo progression got halt (but anytime he got swallowed by trico, his body got more tattoo, that's why if pewdiepie failed to destroy the third bell, and got eaten. its game over). because his tattoo is bind tattoo that paralyze him. if the tattoo finally covers his body, he can't move anymore. hence why there is robot armor, to makes sure no child escape, if the trico failed to bring the child to that falcon statue.

Ueda specifically said he didn't want Trico to have a gender. He felt it made the player connect more if Trico was whatever they felt like he was. (To me, he was a he.)

In captivity, the lifespan is usually around 12-15 years, but can differ from country to country. PewDiePie There were 3 Tricos at the end the biggest one was Yours 2nd was the one with the broken mask. the only reason that one was alive was because he wasnt under control due to not having the mask and the other Tricos had fallen to their death. your Trico in the beginning was placed down there to die because he couldnt serve as a slave anymore and u were able to connect to him because its like having a cat dog fish(dog) mindset. and before he took u to your village they made a connection and it might've ended with them bringing back the race. (this is all a thought but you can easily put them together like this)

Two years later and that ending still gets me
A happier ending: Trico continued his flight through the ruins in search for the boy. He crash landed onto the villages land as he looks up at him and sees how much he has grown up as he is holding the mirror sharing his story with the young village children. Trico and the man unite and hug, they lay among the stars for hours. Tricos tail has fully grown back and has recovered remarkably the man notices, he climbs up on Tricos back and the two fly through the night sky sight seeing. Trico and the man land back in the village, Trico is welcomed to stay as a protector of the village by the village people after they see he is the man's companion and is friendly. The next morning the village sit down with the man and he tells the whole village his story whilst standing next to the beast, they listen in amazement. The man finished his story and the village to this day are thankful to have Trico as their protector (and form if transport haha). 😁
