It could be most people find those specific killers to be more fun. I personally think it's just the "I need to win" mentality. Personally I enjoy watching you do all your experiments and 'off meta' builds. Just seeing what works is a huge part of what can make games like these so entertaining.

Could be. I just enjoy playing all aspects of the game and trying different combos out. Glad to hear you enjoy watching that too! ✊

As a Wraith player, a majority of my other favorites are licensed and BHVR appears to be allergic to licensed killers in this mode. Examples like Michael, Ghostie, Vecna, Alien, Chucky (rip), Piggy, & Freddy. These are all killers i play often. With regards to original ones, i like them, but most of them don't pack the same punch for me as licensed bois do. Wraith/Legion are just easy turn brain off m1 and that's fun for me sometimes.
The licensed killers are just truly where i feel the most investment. Maybe it's the nostalgia of growing up with all these guys, but that's how I've ended up wanting to just play after 2600 hours. Can't blame me for wanting simple or complex but with nostalgia/other fun.

@GanjjaCat Thank you for commenting. I totally get that! As a Nemesis main I'd love to see a Resident Evil Wesker/Neme matchup or Ghostie/Myers. Unfortunately, licensed killers will likely never see any game mode that could potentially put them in the same trial. When the owners to the rights of a character such as Freddy Krueger agree to let Behaviour Interactive use that character's name, look, essence, and sometimes even voicelines (ex: Chucky, Pinhead), Behaviour has very strict license agreements they must follow to keep such chapters in their game. Putting Freddy Krueger and Michael Myers in a 2V8 match together could make insinuations about the characters' lores, story writing, and history. When such rights owners agree to collab their character with another, such as in the movie Freddy Vs. Jason, many of these aspects are discussed and many scripts have to be rewritten until both parties agree on the light in which their character is seen. For these reasons, it is highly unlikely that licensed killers in DbD will ever get added to game modes like 2V8. While it is unfortunate and disappointing, it makes a lot of sense to me.
I think simplicity is one of the reasons 2V8 quickly became so popular. DbD is a highly competitive, stressful - and at times - sweaty game for both sides. It was nice to have something simple to just have fun and play without concern of consequences of failure. Players were more incentivized to have fun rather than sweat, and I think that did a lot of good for the game. Maybe if this mode ever comes back for a third run we'll get even more killer choices...

@ToxicTPlays I would agree with you, but licensed killers have been in evrry gamemode except 2v8. I can't imagine the guidelines for what TYPE of gamemode matter, it sets the precedent that licensed killers can indeed be put into gamemodes.
What makes me maybe think you're possibly right (I really hope not though) is that William Birkin wasn't even allowed to be used in 2v8. I'm really hoping this just means there'll be a big reveal for ALL RE characters to enter, including the redskins like Birkin and Hunk. Castlevania also got an entire gamemode centered on that IP so I really do feel like BHVR had the ability to do it and is just waiting.
My assumptions for 2v8 have been: It's going to be permanent eventually and that it's going to eventually also have every killer in it licensed or not. They have already stated as much with regards to it eventually being permanent, so I can't imagine that they would not also have every single killer in it, not just all original killers.

From my understanding, it's not necessarily the game mode that matters but rather the collaborative efforts of two infamous killers which would make implications about their lore and intentions. I'm sure the capability to put licensed killers into the game mode are there already, but the developers are held back by these limitations due to their agreement with the rights holders.
That's also very interesting about the William Birkin skin! I didn't realize that at the time, though it makes perfect sense. Also, if the entire game mode you're referring to Castlevania getting was the return of Lights Out mode, I don't know if I would agree that it was centered around the chapter. The developers often make small changes or add new additions to recurring game modes such as the Halloween and Bone Chill events that come back every year to keep things fresh. While I do agree the addition of candelabras and other things in Lights Out mode V2 catered well to the Castlevania theme, I'm not sure it was meant to be an event specifically for Castlevania. I think it was just a timing thing since that was the first event after the chapter's release.
I suppose we'll have to see what happens in the future with 2V8... I would love to be wrong about my theory, but license agreements can be very fragile at times. Look at the history with the Stranger Things DLC. I appreciate your thoughts.

it wasnt just william birkin, the AoT skin for spirit was also banned from this mode

functionally, wraith in this mode, especially considering his busted uncloak speed, on-demand mobility & stealth, is just a better version of spirit, who, despite the buffs, has a big cooldown on her power, an adequate warning for when she's nearby, and the Medic class guarantees survivors will be mostly healthy, making tracking in her power extremely difficult, nevermind the amount of noise notifications and your killer buddy drowning out the sounds of footsteps & breathing
billy and blight have good mobility, which is good for patrolling the map + gen defense, billy is likely used less due to curving being a difficult thing to learn, whereas blight can get off just fine with 2-rushing and hit-n-runs, not really needing to learn bump logic
huntress is servicable, being also good support, decent on her own, but with next to no mobility, she cannot defend gens
nurse can work well, but her map coverage is abysmal even with blinks to travel, though depending on how fast you can down survivors, that may be able to compensate
trapper's setup time hurts the killer team alot, and the amount of survivors makes resetting disarmed traps a nightmare, nothing else going for him unless you get a grassy map with idiot survivors
slinger is a gimmicky support that incentivizes sticking close to his buddy if he wants to get quick downs and cages, that and he also has no mobility, either forcing him to play catch-up with his teammate, forcing his teammate to stick close to HIM, or going solo, which will take too long

That's a fair assessment, and Wraith was definitely much stronger in this mode compared to normal. However, I disagree with your argument for Billy. Players always have the choice to play him for mobility and still choose to M1 survivors instead of going for chainsaws. With his new overdrive rework and all the turning addons made basekit in this mode, I think he was pretty easy to maneuver around the large, mostly open maps from this mode, and that's coming from someone who doesn't play Billy much. I actually found him more enjoyable in 2v8 because he felt easier than in the regular game IMO. Plus he breaks pallets much faster than Wraith and could still benefit from using one of the other 3 perks available over the Brute class that Wraiths basically needed to end chases faster.
Also, you make a good point about the healing build being very strong, making Spirit harder to play, and I'd have to agree with that. However, I thought her recharge speed and duration was very generous. You could get across the entire map (made bigger for the mode mind you) and back in less than 30 seconds.
I think Slinger and Trapper were good support choices, but definitely had their weaknesses. I think these characters called for a change in playstyle compared to normal, and people didn't really pick up on that. 2v8 is a bit of an experiment, testing builds and seeing what works. That's a big part of what I found so enjoyable about the mode. Unfortunately it seemed to me that most folks didn't care to branch out or see what buffs were given out or what changes were made and just tried to play to win still which I thought 2v8 did a great job of de-incentivizing. Apparently that's not the case...

imo, wraith offered the best chance to win in 2v8, so I'd often play as wraith.
Nurse blinking felt sloppy and easy to outplay, similar for blight and rushing, spirit is great when survivors stay injured but it's so easy to heal with the healer boost in 2v8 it felt pointless, and I've always been a terrible aim with slinger.
Huntress I still tried a few times, but I was always more successful in achieving 6-8 kills when I played as wraith

    • @ToxicTPlays
      @ToxicTPlays  20 днів тому

@sikthsikthsikth That's fair. Wraith definitely felt better to play with all the addons make base kit for the mode; however, the maps themselves were much more difficult in chase. To make space for double to players in a lobby, maps had to be made much bigger and more tiles had to be added, which meant more pallets and windows. In fact, many of the tiles added were brand new, never-before-seen tiles that players had to learn on the spot. Wraith is not a killer that deals with pallets well and therefore could sometimes find himself taking difficult chases.
Ultimately, 2V8 was fun because of the chaos, the ease of finding survivors and even the frequency of two chases colliding resulting in disaster for survivors. I think all these things combined made killers easier to play and more fun. I'd be interested to see a vanilla version of this mode where there are no base kit addons, no classes, and no items. Just a test of skill from both sides. I would bet we'd see more of a variance in pick choices. But who knows?
One of the things I personally liked best about 2V8 though is how stress-free it felt compared to the 4V1. I found myself sweating for the win less often and just having fun with the game again. While I can understand your perspective of playing the killer with the best chance to win, I didn't find myself needing to sweat amongst the chaos that was 2V8. But that's just me. I enjoy a little variety in my games. Either way, I hope you had fun in this limited time mode! Thanks for your thoughts,

I think you picking Billy the most made him being pick the less by your allies bc the same killer can't be chosen in the same match. All those huntresseses had a rough time in the queue in the 1st iteration bc of that. Anyway, just adding to the discussion here.

Well, yes. That's a very good point. However, there were still a significant amount of games where I either wasn't playing Billy or I was playing as survivor. I still find his pick rate fascinating. Also, I was hoping that playing killers like Nurse and Billy would shorten my wait times in the queues since more players wanted to play Huntress and Wraith; but unfortunately, it didn't seem to make a difference for me.
