    Very tricky hands. I somehow got them right (or at least scored well) except for board 1 where I made the mistake of correctly counting my HCP so got to 6C 🙂.

      Such a bad but common mistake people make, counting their points correctly.

    Robots also messed me up on 4. I bid 3D to try to learn more information about their hand, they went low in 3S but then kept bidding after I stopped in 4S. Very frustrating what the robot does (and doesn't) upgrade.

      Hi Scott, this is Robert. I didn't get screwed over by board 4 but I did get screwed over on board 1, in 6NT down 1, and then I messed up the 2S X ed contract, down 1. Still finished with 65 percent.

    I'm a genius when it comes to Redouble that 2spades doubled.. But I played it wrong and went -1 and bottom scored instead :D
    Damn it's hard to play this bidding system BBO, it's so inaccurate and low with opportunities and conventions. It does not even have XY convention. But it's nice to compare to others to improve declare play

    The good news: 5 straight pushes to finish. No comment on boards 2/3.

    Board 3 was nicely played. How did you know that East was holding 5 hearts?

    • @BridgeWithPete
      @BridgeWithPete  3 роки тому +1

      West led the 2 of hearts. They lead 4th best. If west had 5 hearts there should be a heart lower than the one they led but there wasn't so they could only have 4 so east must have 5.

    Great play. Shame about board 4. I did the same.

    System killed you on board 4. In my system it would go 1 Club - 1 Diamond - 1 Spade - 4 Clubs (Weak Explicit Slam Indicator) - 4 Diamonds (Forced) - 4 Spades. In this sequence, slam is fully explored without having to go past game. On board 7, open 2 Clubs, rebid 2 Hearts over 2 Diamonds, (Can be 4 with this exact distribution.) Partner can rebid a 4-card spade suit. On this hand it would go 2 Clubs - 2 Diamonds -2 Hearts - 2 Spades - 3Clubs - 3 Hearts - 3 Spades - continue to slam. Playing the robot system, these hands are hard to bid. Playing a sensible system, no problem. Board 8 is not a notrump opener - the Ace-King doubleton of clubs is a big minus. It should go 1 Club - 1 Heart - 1 Spade - All Pass.

    Your reasons for opening a lot of hands 1NT sound like good reasons to play a weak no trump

    • @BridgeWithPete
      @BridgeWithPete  3 роки тому +2

      That is basically the entire reason people play weak NT. Downside of Weak NT is getting doubled/ there are some awkward auctions when the opponents interfere and you have to distinguish between 15 points or 19 points

    • @mymyscellany
      @mymyscellany 3 роки тому

      @@BridgeWithPete Let's say the mean value of the weak no is something like 13 HCP. What point range should opponents X in second chair? It's probably something like 15 HCP, leaving on average 12 HCP unaccounted for. This will usually be divided between the two remaining players equally, each having about 6 HCP. Is it even worth risking the X on such a slim margin of strength, 2 points? If the strength of double is increased, the weak 1NTers are going to get away stealing the space more often, since the opponents will bid over the 1NT and get them off the hook. Increasing the HCP threshold to bid in second chair is also impractical because fourth chair can't balance, since the weak no trumpers often have the majority of the strength. Also keep in mind one player having 15 HCP, in the first overcalling chair, after someone opens, is not at all common. All reasons I like weak 1NT. I also like playing 2C as stayman, with relay responses built in afterward. I'm a junior so I am obligated to play preemptive, complicated systems

      You also get a lot of 2S/2H hands wrong - missing sound 4-4 fits and getting into shaky 5-2 fits. That's the one downside I've noticed in stretching to open 1NT with a good 14. It happens much more often than getting too high. As for penalty double, points schmoints. I'm looking for a hand that I expect to take at least five tricks, especially balanced. Since the reward for being right is greater than what you would have gotten declaring, it's worth the risk. The bigger question is when opener's side should redouble and what those sequences mean.

    • @mymyscellany
      @mymyscellany 3 роки тому

      @@jyutzler missing 4-4 major fits is probably the biggest drawback to weak no trump, you're right. I don't know if the 5-2 fit comment is talking about weak no or upgrading 24 counts to go into 15-17. I can relate to playing a lot of crummy fits upgrading 14 counts into 15-17.
      "Points smoints" is true, but having 6/7 tricks without having 15 HCP is even rarer than having 15 HCP after someone opens. Also keep in mind double opens up a lot of ways for opps to escape if 1NT seems wrong.

    • @mymyscellany
      @mymyscellany 3 роки тому

      @@jyutzler I definitely like XX by the weak no side to be an escape redouble. I know some people play pass by responder as forcing over X over weak no, which forces XX by opener. XX is either passed by responder for penalty, or taken out to show specific hand types. I don't know how good this agreement really is, because it only allows you to play weak no redoubled, not doubled.
