- Опубліковано 28 тра 2020
- We spend a week with the new Nreal Light developer kit to get a sense of how this lightweight pair of augmented reality glasses works in the real world. While we've yet to see the final consumer version's software, the optics, image quality, and ergonomics of the developer kit give us optimism for the type of content we're hoping to see shine in this generation of mixed reality hardware.

Wait it says it’s 1099 yen bro that’s 8 bucks
@@LookFren lol it is 1099 yen
Waits it’s actually 80 bucks LoL that’s cheaper than the oculus go
nicee
Does it have eye tracking like Hololens 2?
Dude you nailed that review. You covered everything about that AR glasses. The details and hands on exp made it worth watching!
Thanks shane
Norm's the best in the game
Yeah Norm is wicked consistent with his reviews. Always look for his take first.
Yay Norm!!!
honestly I get so excited when you do interviews and reviews, they are always so informative!!! thank you for what you do man.
You gave a really excellent, detailed, discussion of these glasses and general AR topics. Thank you!!
Is it just my impression or are they covering almost the top HALF of the visual field???
I'd imagine or at least hope as the development continues on it that the sizes of the hardware necessary for these would continue to get smaller.
I tried them back on CES when you have them on (without any other glasses) then its quiet good no covering or so
Interesting that so much was sacrificed to make it look as it does(understandable) while still being optimally used indoors.
@@Taijifufu Somewhere the Tech must go or? cant build an Car without the Engine i always said
The frame looks to sit high on the nose, so the top half of the lens sits above your eye.
Phenomenal review, these look incredible!
Norm is such a great explainer. Thanks tested!
Thank you for your comment!
I agree. I think we need a new series where Norm reviews and explains cool new gadgets and tech! I'd definitely love to see more videos like this from Norm.
very much looking forward to this technology. also, cool the shining carpet pattern blanket. I need one now.
Great first impression review! Quite impressive what they were able to put directly in glasses of that weight.
A great (but very difficult) demo / application would be a phone conversation with a person that was 3D-scanned before, standing in the room lip-syncing and gesturing like the actual person on the other end. ... might take another 5 years or so.
Small technically easy to achieve things they should definitely enhance before going public:
Full adjustability of the frame (especially: width of the front, length and individual up/down orientation of the temples; just consult with an optician of your choice ;) ).
... and of course: every heavily used cable will at some point need replacement, so just add a socket in the glasses for it, please (less than $1; should be in the budget ;)).
Good job. Great review.
That ‘The Shining’ blanket on your couch is DOPE!!!
Damn talk about 10/10 review you went through everything amazing job. I am so excited to see AR in the future..
I was waiting for this video... is amazing how this tech is involving and growing up.. i hope this for the future...
Nice review.. from a technical aspect through the user experience... Cheers
Great review! Can't wait until it's available commercially and to start developing for AR in general!
The fact that the demo for this has a stargate is amazing!
Ironically the augmented reality convention has been augmented
But I love thi so much
Alexander Sillan LOL DUDE
Great review. Once it's ready AR will be everywhere.
I'd want these with google maps for any trips. Imagine a heads up real time map so you can look at what's around you instead of down at your phone to navigate.
@@markali6114 I meant more for walking. I would have seen much more of Tokyo, for example, if I didn't need to check my phone to find my destination.
Vuzix Blade actually has that but it's Alexa powered so it's kinda crap.
@@markali6114 my friend are you saying you can't multitask by driving and adjusting anything that exist in your car?
I'm getting these glasses
I am a simple man, I see a stargate I upvote.
Indeed
Really good Review of the Dev Kit;) im going to buy them as soon as the Consumer Kit arrives. I just want the Sword Art Online Menü in RL xD But jokes aside really cool tech
I’m here for Ordinal Scale myself, but it’s great to see fellow man of culture.
Terrific review.
Haptic AR parks are gonna be lit. 🔥🔥🔥
Porn is gonna be lit ❤❤❤
I was thinking of a basketball court that doubles as a Pokémon battle stadium. And yeah, porn will be lit. If y’all aren’t fucking with deep fake porn yet, should check it out.
I can see tekken AR fights with a paying crown in a few years
Do any of the demos feature text content? Is the display resolution fine enough to read a paragraph of text overlaid over the scene? Would something like a web browser window be readable on a device like this?
With 1080 by screen and 50 field of view I think text would look enough clair
@@adilvrflight3348 Yeah, I'd imagine so too. As long as it's not too tiny
im actuly happy about how they did the power. i HATE the idea of a lithium battery setting right on top of my skull
Just you wait. Eventually a lot of devices are going to be powered by beta-decay cells (provided technology can get small enough)... which is definitely worse than a lithium battery, in terms of health worries :)
dude love u guys
Nice work! Can we see more work, education, and productivity applications please?
Excellent review! I appreciate that you flipped them around for all of us to see the inside of the device, which I've been mighty curious to examine.
This is my favorit channel
They look fun to clean
I have been looking forward to this video for some time, thanks Norm. :)
How would you say the displays and tracking compare to ML & HoloLens 2?
Fabulous coverage, just one thing about the design of the glasses, do you think nreal will provide glasses of different colours?
I hope they make a SpaceX helmet version with air filter.
I like that nLight has gone with the stealth approach. It's far easier to build assistive technology with it when it isn't socially intrusive. The fact that other manufacturers *want* the headset to be intrusive and noticeable makes them unsuited.
Just let me play Yugioh like in the series and i'm happy
I have 0 confidence Konami would be able to do anything like that well
@@DarianWade oof
this
Pokemon
How sick would it be if it had currency which you could trade for irl and you could start a business off this by trading stuff.
@@IamINERT lol I'm working on a blockchain tech startup and a cryptocurrency game like that is something I wanna do sometime in the future, but I'm just focusing on the revenue generators first tho, but one day in the near future
7:40 Damn, now I want to watch Stargate again xD
for the outside ar colour settings, blocked colours would be more beneficial and the first for indoors, then perhaps a non reflective backing on the inner part of the lenses :) but would love to give these a spin
This is definitely your forte. Interviews....not so great. But actually giving out knowledge? Top of the line!
This would be really cool for dnd
This video just makes me want to buy Tilt Five even more.
I wish they had the Snapdragon 865 in the dev kit, but I can't wait to buy it and dig in anyway! Great coverage as always!!!!
It looks like it sits way to far away from the face making it look weird compared to normal glasses. Did you find that to be an issue? Narrowed your field of view?
it's meant to sit something like that to get your eye in the eye box..... if your eye is not at the right distance meaning outside of the eye box u won't get a sharp focused image
@Guybrush Threepwood Aesthetics should be changed then cause if it looks like sunglasses it should fit like sunglasses. Plus it would be way better if it looked like normal glasses which would be more acceptable to an everyday consumer.
@@pumpuppthevolume I can totally understand the reason for that but shouldn't more development go in to it to make that possible? Even as cool as AR is I can't see me wearing these.
@@theredundancy they are using cheap simple optics that have been around for a long time because they want to make it affordable
... shrinking it further will require a lot of rnd work and there is no guarantee how expensive it will be and the volume size of the production line
instead they have something that is much smaller than the $2300 ml1 and $3500 hololens2 and has great image quality and similar fov and angular resolution while costing $500 if u use it with a compatible phone or pc u already have
it's a ballance of a lot of stuff
if the apple info is correct they will have something better looking for 500.... but it will be closer to google glass with dual lenses than a full ar headset.... but it will get one day close to that
@@theredundancy AR glasses will never be widely uses as long as it looks like that.
Hey AR wearable tech that actually takes people who wear glasses into account! That's really refreshing. Probably not something I could use without paying for prescription lenses but it's really nice to have some sort of option available.
Would it help to add clip-on or wrap around sunglasses when you are wearing them outside? Would that make it easier to see the projections or just impossible to see where you are going as you are walking around?
I'm a software developer who has been following AR tech and I'm willing to bet that AR will replace phones as we know them but there is one main thing stopping that and that is the controls. AR needs to have super reliable and usable control that we just don't have at the moment. Some potential solutions are eye-tracking or "mind control" a brain-computer interface like a more exigent EEG or an implant or something like that.
I just finished reading other world, other earth, and other life by Jason Segel and this totally freaks me out a little and makes me happy that the don't offer disc's for the fully immersive experience.
Dont know when this video was made but Nreal already showed their OS called ,,Nebula,, looks really cool.
Games are not enough, I want to use this for productivity. Everything from programming to digital art to watching UA-cam videos. 3D modelling and visualization too. Can't wait!!!
Did anyone else think it said oreo on the arm on the glasses in the thumbnail?
I would love it in all black.
I'm just waiting until Neural Link can beam the images right into my brain. Perfect fidelity.
Do you really want Elon poking around in there? Dude would probably give you seizures if you make a late payment. Where's the open source version
@@alakani You're right, I'll at least wait until it's jailbroken. George Hotz should have it figured out within a couple weeks of release.
Be careful with the wish. After recording your brain's response to millions of pictures, they will be able to use generative neural network to fry your brain with a single image, which neuroscientists already tried on monkey.
Are you going to be covering the Reverb G2?
You should do a comparison video of this vs. Magic Leap
Salut, pourrais-tu faire une petite vidéo de ce que donne les Nreal quand tu l'es connecté au pc en extension d'écran et en miroir.
Merci. Super vidéo explicative.
What AR needs with so many up and coming hardware options is a common software plaform like maybe Windows MR drivers to stream hololense content to any AR glasses or even VR headset, especially where a passthrough camera is either built in or available as an addon.
Lacking that, just a way to stream your phone screen as not to have to take it out or a driver to stream virtual monitors to the glasses from a PC or actual VR content, ignoring the transparent backgound.
I want AR to happen but am worried about software fragmentation and other lack of content.
I will be happy when they release the sdk for the Lenovo AR headset. That thing is $20 buck now.
Ok I've seen some passable stargate bootlegs before but come in it even had the symbols on the inner ring
So cool.
Si ,están Geniales esos lentes !!!!!!😎
one of the theories for that ping i felt: 4:05 your brain connection to rest of nerves in body accelerometer would be phones millermeterwave tech and nanotech my body plugged with and house system plus remote tech
interesting stuff
Any information on the Nebula3D? Will they ever release it for the dev kit or is it exclusive to the consumer version?
Also, I've read that the consumer version may have a detachable cable from the glasses part too. Any info on that?
Wearing these in public would be such a HUGE flex lmfao.
Glasses look like shit tbh, this technology has a long way 2 go
vr is BLOWING UP rn
Can you demo the DreamGlass Air? Would be interested in your thoughts on it and how it compares to NReal.
Thanks for talking about how it wouldn’t work with one eye. I am unfortunately blind in one of my eyes so I will never really be able to experience this technology in its entirety. It’s still cool to see the advancement in ar tech
☹
it will work.... the same way vr does u can use it just fine and u can move around the virtual object.... it will work the same way reality works with only one eye.... u r just telling distances from other clues not from having a second eye
@Guybrush Threepwood yes
he can ise it just fine like he can use vr.... this is not a 3d movie its virtual objects u can move around
Give it a few years. The technology for vision surgery will arrive soon.
I think AR's killer app will be a flexible HUD, more than any discrete program. The HUD could display information on objects around you, and display notifications in one's vision without one needing to get out their phone. Things like navigation could be integrated into the HUD when they occur, so one can see directions in real space and also see information around them. The HUD could also include an API where one can make an object in real life which it recognises and puts an AR overlay on top of. That is the main thing I see AR being useful for, not mediocre games.
3D modelling in VR/AR/MR would also be really good, since controls would be more precise. That's more of a benefit of the control scheme though, and could work well with a variety of displays.
I am much more intrigued by Jeri Ellsworth's Tilt Five system that you covered last year ( ua-cam.com/video/Jse-GwkcYgI/v-deo.html ). Similar to Hololens, it's meant for a defined space on the tabletop but I think that is the most realistic use case for AR in the foreseeable future anyway
I am Tilt Five backer and its a bit of specialized and limiting device with that reflective surface. When i think of AR device, i think of something like Nreal, where you can move
Wow beautiful. Nice good 👍
Don't you just love technology Norm it really is a good time to be alive its another revolution a technological revolution after all and if its anything like the last we are only 20 years in 😁 keep going you special nerd 🤘the future is really bright
Looking interesting.... in reality (sic) all I need is to be able to reach lyrics and chords while playing an instrument. Not sure when that's going to be an affordable option though...
Do what I do. Buy an oculus quest 2 and use the Passthrough and browser to play. You can have multiple browsers open at a time. I have a tuner and sheet music on seperate browsers and can still see the real world. The quest 2 is honestly revolutionary.
Hi, could you try looking at your PC/Mac screen floating in front of you? Would you work like this for hours comfortably? You can sideload chrome remote desktop or splashtop to achieve this.
Hey man thet great review. I'm very excited about thet glass. I it any way to use hands to control objects on this glass?
Love these reviews! You guys are the best! Do you guys have any reviews of the open AR Project North Star? Any plans on reviewing one of the kits ( developer.leapmotion.com/northstar ) ?
what for stargate content run at first on the glasses ?
back in the 90s people used to belt strap the walkmans but I am too young in that regards(mp3 for me) but I personally think It looks cool
@Guybrush Threepwood Ya correct for the early player but if I remember correctly later version got some buffer(RAM) to store music so even if the CD skips the player have time to recover. But again I am down to anything tech strapped to my belt except a bulky CD player and a bomb probably (hehe)
When i see them, all i can think of is Master Roshi's sunglasses.
Ok its nice and all, but are they polarized?
Wow what a great review! Do we know if it can tether to non Snapdragon phones (e.g exynos processor on Samsung Note 10 plus 5g)
Wow it’s like the ready player one oasis console
I hope NReal v2.0 glasses will be a bit bigger, it doesn't have to replace my RayBans, I'm ok to wear a more Fendi looking glasses if that'll give me a better FOV.
mirroring from the ground can be avoided with a small shade... ml1 had an add on like that.... but diy will be tricky
@Guybrush Threepwood lol what's not possible... sticking a piece of tape that will stick out and stop reflections from the ground....or u can always 3d print something biger and more permanent
majic leap shade for blocking light and reflects from top

but without a specific design for a 3d print insert it will stick out quite a bit
holy crap AR is closer than i expected
I think that the glasses will become the new standard probably in the next couple years!
I too thought the same!😄
Develop some you can modify your own pair of glasses. Game over
I think what ever Apple comes up with will be the standard
Total GAMIX totally agree
Not unless they make it so people don't want to vomit when they see it on someone's face
Which of the MR smart glasses brands would you recommend? What are the pros and cons of nreal smart glasses compared to other brands?
How easy is the initial setup process? Do you need to scan your room before placing objects?
no room scanning needed for the demos menu, though they do need a room scan before the sandbox demo loop because you can place the animation over any surface you want. the marker scan with nreal tower was quick, and the marker was only needed for setup!
amazing! i cant wait for this to be all flushed out... lemme get the smartglasses 20 plus please!
I can't get over the mental image of norm wearing these whilst eating breakfast.
Can they be used without eyes glasses
I think this type of display technology and a Windows interface would be incredible. Windows Mixed Reality is cool, but being able to do AR instead of VR would add another practical layer. Plus the size of the headset is great. But I'd love to have glasses like this with a bit more horsepower -- then you could have interfaces more like Iron Man, where you have a virtual layout on top of the real world that you can interact with like real things.
Also, that wasn't a Stargate ripoff, that was _actually Stargate_. Pretty sure the space battle was largely Ori cruisers and a Supergate.
NEXTECH will be the future of AR they're already integrated with Microsoft, apple, dell, google and those apple AR glasses got leaked the other week💯💯
@@smb07 time will tell
@@DoctorX17 yup this will only advance it a lot farther even if they were to not be a best selling item but if it works we might see this the norm in 2022
dannngg u got the set of olly moss mondo star wars posters. noice
Seeing something like this come to market makes me feel vindicated. I had an assignment in an economics class in high school where I needed to pitch a fake product to the class, and while the class thought the concept was good, the teacher thought a product like I was describing would be too unrealistic to happen in the near future. I was pitching a pair of AR glasses in the form-factor of sunglasses, tethered to a phone via a short-range Wi-Fi or Bluetooth connection, with the glasses just containing a battery, sensors, and screens. Basically the Nreal glasses. I got the time-to-ship right and was kinda close on price. Take that Mr. Shearer!
the unrealistic part is the wireless connection ....if the headset has the hardware for a wireless connection like that it is already big enough to have ....or it already has the same hardware as the phone
the oculus/facebook ar headset will be basically an ar display like nreal in the front and the quest processing unit(phone hardware basically) on the back of the head (like hololens)
How long ago was this?
I would imagine transparent OLED will help out a lot
Did you get a headache or experience dizziness?
They look like a pair I had in the 80s.
Adam Savage's Tested, Will there be a separate market one for VR and the other AR, or is the Plan for AR to be the next upgrade. Also I see Oculus going this way with design , glasses /lightweight
A "Big Bang" in augmented reality apps is coming..but first the hardware needs to be perfected. The BBC coverage of CES stated that this device is as good as augmented reality gets at the moment.
I would really enjoy playing a game like Pokemon go with this
Just one question... do they come in black?
