10.2 Restoration Druid M+ Beginners Guide | Ep.1 Wax On Wax Off | An Introduction to Rdruid

  • Welcome to my very, very beginners guide that covers that absolute fundamentals of dungeon healing as a Restoration Druid in WoW. This is only part one of...however many videos it takes to go from zero (no experience as a resto druid, or struggling to keep up with healing your friends in low keys) to hero healing mythic plus keys (18+ and beyond).
    I started playing WoW in legion and restoration druid was and is my main and has been since then. Over the years, I have improved as a player immensely. One of the goals I have for this series is to incrementally introduce different concepts of the resto druid toolkit to you in a way that gives you a very clear path to improvement and allows you to fast track your growth as a player. Many of the topics I have planned to cover will be an amalgamation of different resources I have read and seen over several years, as well as my own concepts, lessons and experimentation that I have made to achieve a higher and higher level of performance.
    I have taught several people in my social circle through this method of teaching and seen quite dramatic positive results with their gameplay. For example, a friend of mine was learning resto druid and was struggling to heal low keys (5-8), having people die, low throughput and bad mana efficiency. We spent a couple of hours inside some dungeons, talking through spells, UI, nameplates, addons, weakauras and they went from struggling in 5-8s to being able to heal 14-16s in a couple of days.
    This series is not for those who want a 15 minute "git gud" video about "one simple trick that tanks will LOVE you for." This video is an outline for teaching players that are new to the spec the little things I wish I had been taught about restoration druid years ago that would have saved me lots and lots of time. My goal is to give you the tools that you need to achieve your own goals and become the player that you want to be.
    As with all of my videos, I include a link to my raider.io character page and to my warcraft logs page. All of my dungeon and raid runs are publicly released so that any person can browse through to see talents, gear and track my performance through all content that I do.

    This guide stands out as an exceptional resource for retro druid healing. While many others hastily skim through talents, presenting them without much context, you've taken the time to meticulously break down each aspect, allowing readers to truly comprehend not just what they're doing, but also the reasoning behind it.

    This is a really great format for an explanation video! I hope you continue to do these because seeing the thorough talk in-game is so much more helpful. I think folks often equate "shorter" with being more beginner friendly, but this does a much better job at explaining WHY our rotation is the way it is and that will make it much easier to understand and remember for a lot of people! Easy sub.

    • @estesthebestes
      @estesthebestes  7 місяців тому

      My plan is to definitely keep the same or very similar format. The plan for my channel is to continue on with this type of explanation video as I personally learn better when I’m allowed to sit awhile, listen, and hear some of the reasons WHY I am supposed to be doing that thing in a particular order.
      Other channels might be better at saying “hi, this is what you should do” but without the understanding of the whole picture, people will often not actually perform these things correctly.
      Episode 2 is almost finished and I’ll be going into talking about CDs, just on the hunt for a good couple clips from me in actual keys to go with the audio explanation!
      I really appreciate your comment as it means a lot to me that you would take the time to make it!

    As a returning player your “Regrowth” section was mind blowing. The downside of copy/pasta talents from the internets and not doing my own diligence on understanding.

    Recently picked up Resto Druid to prep a new healer to try for Season 4. This is the perfect kind of guide that just goes beyond just reading the Wowhead page verbatim.
    It took what looked like a daunting class and broke it down into an easy to understand core of principles.
    SO worth watching in full.

    Thank you so much for this video. I'm new to Dragonflight (and relatively new to WoW) and was thinking about dipping my toes into M+ healing. Having such good and clear explanations instead of "you have to use Marvelous Heal to proc your 34th passive and your 55th tier set effect, but only when your party is doing a live concert while illegally trainsurfing" is invaluable.

      Welcome to the game and welcome to healing!! There will definitely be some ups and downs that you’ll experience, some great groups and some groups that will make you question existence, but healing in WoW is super fun and rewarding and a great way to meet new friends and network with good players.

    I just picked up restoration druid a week or so ago and I've been farming 11's for gear (I'm only ilvl 444 average), but with how loose druid gameplay was I wasn't entirely sure I was doing this healing thing right.
    Thanks so much for this video, Estes. There's a lot of guides out there, for sure, but yours was one of the few that really slowed down the pace to break down what each ability does, how and why it should be used, and when to use it. That is so immensely helpful for me ♥

    Great guide man I really learned a lot from it especially since I’m coming back to healing since missed of Panderia. A couple tips for making guide videos in the future. Take it as constructive criticism because this one was actually really good. You can download some video editing software like da Vinci, and then do the voice after the video. This way, you can write down key points. He wants to touch on and explain as you’re watching the video and playing it back and in case you mess up, you can go back and re-record over the section that you did mess up on, but like I said great video I learned a lot keep up the good work. Hopefully you’ll come up with some more soon.

    • @Demosthenes84
      @Demosthenes84 7 місяців тому

      What do you think?
      Is the highest number key I should be pushing at 468 item level?

    • @estesthebestes
      @estesthebestes  7 місяців тому

      Well, that is a lot harder of a question for me to answer! There’s a number of factors to answer that properly.
      1. Your skill and comfort on Druid
      2. Your UI giving you the correct information during trash and boss fights
      3. The skill of other party members
      These are in no particular order, however at the beginning of the season (week 1), I was timing 18+ runs with pugs. My first 20s were done with no tier set and an item level of around 450ish, give or take. My Druid in all of the videos on the channel so far I was below 475, which I just hit last night before logging off.
      So, without seeing your gameplay, UI, and the general skill of people you’re currently playing with, it’s hard to say exactly how high you can/should be doing.
      The thing I want to make sure that you understand though, is that even in my own gameplay, I’m actively working on many, many things in order to improve and get better myself. So none of these things are meant as a brag or a flex of any kind, but as a point that without more information I cannot give you more specific advice. If you do want to get a better opinion from me, there should be a discord link in the description that you can join and post your own gameplay if you want tailored feedback from me.

      This is something that I have planned to make in the future! There is a very, very limited text only version of this in my discord that you can find stuff about my UI, but I’ve gotten a massive response to this series that I, admittedly, was not exactly expecting! The link to the discord should be in the description of the video!
      I’ve tried to answer as many questions about my UI, while also working setting up my discord and working on new projects, so i don’t have a complete source of info in any one place YET, but I do plan on making this as soon as I get the time! I’ve also been super busy at work and making time for family around the Holidays.
      Sorry for the super long comment back, but I’ve been trying to do my best to thoroughly answer as many questions as I can! If you do join the discord and can’t find what you are looking for, send me a message or just a message in the discord discussion channel for me to get you what you’re looking for as soon as I can!
      Thanks for commenting and watching the video!!

    So should I let my life blooms bloom Everytime ? I have the habbit of refreshing them with sub 3 seconds should I avoid that

    • @estesthebestes
      @estesthebestes  7 місяців тому +1

      This is a bit of a complicated answer - but I'll do my best to explain. To benefit from the Verdancy talent, LB has to Bloom. The guaranteed time this happens is when Lifebloom expires. Say you have a LB on your tank and one on you, but a dps player is taking massive amounts of single target damage because of a dot or some type of effect on them. I will shift and move a LB to that target in order to stabilize their HP, basically with zero regard to verdancy.
      However, say that they are standing in Efflo and you have a clearcasting proc and can send a rejuv their way, and I know in about two seconds one of my LBs will expire, I will wait for it to bloom THEN move it onto the target that is needing the most intense ST (single target) healing. While I am waiting for that to happen, I will go ahead and spot heal them with a rejuv + regrowth if it is needed.
      Finally, there is a concept of a "pandemic window", which means if you refresh an ability shortly before the duration expires, you keep the benefit from that effect expiring, while also resetting the duration of the ability to the time left + normal duration. In LBs case, if you want to reapply it to the same target, doing it under 3 seconds you will still proc the guaranteed verdancy. However, I personally would wait until after it expires (which I time near my cursor, I will include that in a future video, plus a visual demonstration of the pandemic window) to move LB to a new target if they are not going to die from damage within the next 5 or so seconds.
      Doing my best to summarize, refreshing LB in the last 3 seconds is actually a good habit to maintain uptime, BUT moving it to another target early might be a better choice depending on the situation.

    I hear that Mastery is the best stat for us but I have a lot of versatility and less than 10% on mastery. Is that not great? Could i be healing a lot better in high keys? I tend to struggle on 10s and higher but my ilvl is 450 something.
    Great video btw, easy to understand and very helpful

    • @estesthebestes
      @estesthebestes  7 місяців тому

      So my Druid is currently 472 ilvl and I’m running around only 11-12% mastery myself. I believe that I have about 36-38% haste, 20ish percent crit and 15-18% Versatility!
      Mastery definitely helps your pure HPS, but rdruids don’t tend to actually really stack it higher than 8-12%. At your ilvl, your focus should be to just to continuing upgrading gear to push your ilvl up without worrying TOO much about stat weights yet.
