Thank you for another lovely video. I live in Ireland and the winters here are very cold and wet. I love wearing dresses or skirts and I wear thick tights and boots too. I also find that if I wear thermal underwear, like a vest (sorry don't know what that is in "US" speak) underneath all my clothes it helps keep my core warm so I don't ever get really really cold. I wear a slip too, like a petticoat, it keeps the layers of skirt and tights sitting nicely on your legs. One little tip, if you find lots of static between your legs and skirt, a quick spray of hair spray over your legs will fix that - honestly!! Love your channel keep up the great content.

Another thing that really helps me add warmth to dresses in the winter time is a thermal top under the dress. I have one with a short sleeves, which adds even extra warmth. It also really helps for me if my cardigans are made of wool. Something about the natural fiber is extra toasty!

I regularly wear dresses in winter. Marks and Spencer do fabulous thick fleece lined tights that are almost as thick as leggings. Paired with a dress, cardigan, fleece lined boots and a coat they keep me warm enough in the Scottish winter time. Inspiring video as always!

I have worn skirts almost exclusively for the last 17 years and I find them warmer in winter with leggings and wool socks and boots. I hate pantihose!! This is our 3rd winter in Ireland and we find it pretty mild here - sometimes you can even do bare legs under a long skirt. I personally detest wearing slips, so always make sure my skirt fabric is thick enough that I don't have to. Looking forward to Thursday's interview!!

As I watched this I realized how much I owe my current style to your inspiration Jennifer! I love wearing knee length dresses with leggings, a big wool pashmina, and tall boots during winter, and I live in the Midwest where we have real winter! I did put on my jeans to walk my kids to school today and I noticed how cold my legs were! One of my best purchases last year was a pair of fleece-lined leggings from Aldi. Much warmer than jeans!

I agree tights are a great way to keep legs warm in the winter. To up my style I will layer tights, solid on first and a lacy tight of a different color on top. Plus its another layer of warmth. Love your drop earrings, you wear them well!

I enjoyed this video. I have been wearing mostly dresses and skirts the last couple of years. They are so much easier to pull together a nice look and the fleece tights are a must. i discovered these LLBean dresses a few years back and they are so flattering. They are three seasons for me in the South. Thank you for setting a wonderful standard in modest clothing that is also beautiful.

Hi Jennifer! I’ve been following your channel for the past few years, and I just want to say that I find you so inspiring! I admire how you are idealistic, yet also very down to earth and “real.” This particular video I especially enjoyed because I live in Northern Indiana where there is tons of snow for 4-5 months each year! Still, I’ve found it very doable to wear dresses year-round with the tips you mentioned. Please don’t ever stop making videos! I always look forward to watching every video you post and glean so much inspiration and encouragement from you! Thank you!

I'm a Chicagoan who wears DVF wrap dresses every day; for work, week-ends, outings, and special occasions (I don't pay full-price--me, Ebay and consignment stores are best friends). I layer by wearing a cotton cami underneath the dress with tights, and a sweater (varying thickness based on the weather) under my coat. The thickness of the tights depends on whether it's fall or winter. When it's severely cold, I'll wear what I call 'stocking tights' over my tights--they're like thigh-highs but in a knit material. In brutal cold (last week Chicago at minus 50 degree windchills!), I will wear legwarmers over my tights--basically I just look like I'm wearing really thick tights. For fall, I like woolen or wool and cashmere coats and and a belted puffer coat in winter. And always, always a scarf, earmuffs, and gloves in Chicago winter!
P.S. This morning it was 46 degrees. I spotted a lady wearing ONLY leggings and a halter-top while riding her bike--no coat, gloves, or hat--just her leggings and halter top showing all of her tattoos! I guess after last weeks brutal cold, today felt like spring...

Hi Jennifer, I am a skirt and jumper wearer in the winter and paired with leggings, boots and warm wool or cashmere sweaters, I feel warmer than when I used to wear jeans! I bought four Cabbages and Roses skirts last winter all wool and lined and honestly they are like having a blanket wrapped around my legs. They are perfect for our New England winters. I loved your outfits, that plaid coat is adorable!

Hi Jennifer, I loved your video and I’m so excited to see the interview with Madame Lecoeur . I love to wear sweater dresses in winter. I prefer cashmere dresses as they are fine, warm and I can wear them directly on my skin. I usually buy them in May-June, when they get heavily discounted. They last forever if cared for properly.

I was really interested in hearing your tips on this because I wear skirts and dresses almost exclusively as well. I really like how you showed different outfits, and I was encouraged to see your little house on the prairie look, because I have some booties where I do the same with tights, but haven't seen it done much, so knowing you do it makes me feel like it can definitely be pulled of chicly.
Your wardrobe videos are always my favorite!

Your video just inspired me to run upstairs and change into warm tights and a dress. I used to wear dresses all winter long (and I live in Canada!) but got out of the habit when I had kids. You made me realize that it's not any harder than throwing on a pair of jeans before the school run. Thanks for another amazing video!

Great to see two of my favorite bloggers connecting on UA-cam. What a treat! I live in Colorado and have always felt I can dress warmer in dresses than pants. For super freezing days, I’d wear silk thermals, tights, wool skirt, sweater, knee high boots, heavy wool coat, scarf, earmuffs, gloves. The skirt or dress gives more room to layer versus pants. So I can move freely and not feel constricted or that I gained five pounds.

It’s -5 here in Toronto today (which is pretty nice for winter lol) or 23 degrees and I am wearing my fleece tights and a nice heavy jean dress. Another tip is be aware of what type of material you are wearing. In the winters I always go for heavier fabrics (think jeans, heavy cottons, wools etc) which helps with the cold as well ☺️

    • @TheDailyConnoisseur
      @TheDailyConnoisseur  5 років тому

Here I am in freezing England and I love to wear dresses in winter too!So today I am wearing woolly tights, a long slip and a warm camisole under my dress, a cashmere cropped cardi over my dress and a large wool cowl neck jumper over all of that!! I like to wear dresses that are thicker in material or sweater dresses. I wear leggings with them and boots. Adding sweaters helps so much. I have worn a sweater and a jean jacket on a cool day and then added a coat on top if it's super cold. I love this video.

This post is so inspiring and you look wonderfully cozy in your new (and old) boots. Today, because it's raining here, I wore my very old waterproof suede ankle Aquatalia zip boots and, because I'm watching my budget a la your Daily Connoisseur Teachable "Chic Financial Principles for Debt-Free Living" course, I had these very old, but well-made boots re-heeled at the local cobbler recently so they're good for many more miles.
Wearing layers is the key and will keep one toasty even when removing a coat and scarf. I run cold, even here in Southern California, and I've been wanting to buy fleece tights, so thank you for the link, and I can use one of my Amazon gift cards I received as a Christmas gift for them. I often wear black leggings or black tights under a dress with either ankle boots (Sam Edelman in black suede or taupe suede) and I will add a cardigan or blazer if I'm cold. I also like to wear a cardigan or a chunky oversized sweater with a skirt, too.
In closing, I just wanted to say that your opening backdrop was so pretty with the white furniture and the pretty pink rose in the white vase, which I'm sure you made! Is this your sitting room or a bedroom? It's so pretty. Also, as a pearl lover, I thought your drop pearl earrings were gorgeous and I would love a link for them, if you're willing to share. You truly look fashionable in every season and I loved your style show!

For me the key is the material. I live in Denmark, so dresses made of wool - with a great color or design - is what I´m going for. Thin wool when the winter is mild, and thick wool when it is not :-) A warm hug from a cold country.

I have a few pairs of fleeced leggings that I bought one very cold winter, I live in the Netherlands. I can wear them with a black skirt or dress, or even under jeans when I stay outdoor for a long time on a frosty day or when skating. The leggings are more comfortable than tights, and I put on warm socks and of course, and a warm long sleeve t-shirt underneath it all. When I don’t want to wear a roll neck sweater I wear a silk scarf for indoor and a wool scarf with my wintercoat for outdoor and of course a hat and leather gloves lined with wool.
So double scarves or double roll necks, one in coton one in wool will keep you warm. When your feet are warm you won’t get cold so easily and always cover the head and the hands. Long boots are necessary on cold days with a skirt or dress. Another important thing is to take care of the leather of your boots and shoes so they stay watertight. Very important if there is show out, spray your shoes and boots.

I live in Upstate NY and sometimes we get 3 feet of snow in one day! Its not the cold I struggle with, it’s the actual snow! It’s so difficult to wear skirts or dresses here. I’m making it work when I can, but honestly it will be nice when we do finally move to ANYWHERE south of here; more mild winters!

Although I live in Australia I walk and take public transport everywhere so I'm outside all year round. That combined with my love of dresses and the biting harbour breeze means I'm an expert on layering. I like to match my hat (usually a beret) with my pashmina for that day to keep me warm and cheerful. It also helps to add variety as I mostly wear the same coat to wear everyday that I've had for years. I love fleece tights too, they are wonderful during a really cold snap.

Another option, if you aren't a tights lover, is warm leggings. I have some heattech and fleece lined leggings from Uniqlo that are warmer. Under a dress they basically look like tights, but I can still wear my wool socks.

I like to occasionally wear dresses in the winter, too. This winter, I'm in NW Montana. That means lots of layering with skirts or dresses. One thing that I've done is add bike shorts under my tights plus a slip under the skirt for some extra layers. A denim skirt in place of jeans can be a fun option. I also like to wear my cowboy boots with skirts.

I live in Western NY and a staple in my winter wardrobe is dresses with different colored thick tights and flat knee high boots. Sometimes I wear leggings instead of tights or will wear them over tights outside on my walk to work, then take them off when I get in. Lots of sweaters over dressed as well. I also sometimes wear tights with knee high socks under my boots as well.

Thank you so much for the information I like to wear ankle long skirts. What length of coat would you recommend for such a skirt? I love wearing skirts. Unfortunately it’s an attention getter cause most ppl blend in wearing pants. So I always like to look really nice because of this.

I wear skirts exclusively and recommend Uniqlo Heattech undergarments. Extremely thin fabric and WARM! Under the skirt itself I use a pantalette. Having lived in NYC, one Marilyn Monroe experience was enough for me and you'd be surprised how much wind a cotton pantalette keeps off your bottom. Lastly, 2 thumbs up on the fleece tights though the cashmere tights are warmer and thinner.

A tipp, if you are living on a budget and still want to wear high quality clothes and shoes etc.: I find high qualitiy items and/or designer clothes as well as shoes and accessoires at the thrift shop/ salvation army or the good will. Three days ago I found a very high quality pair of brown winter boots, (leather) fully lined with sheep fleece. I payed 10 Euro for them. I had to get them resoled, because the soles were very slippery and harsh. The new soles, made by a professional shoemaker cost me 38 Euro. Alltogether I have a almost new pair of high quality boots now for the price of 48 Euro! :-) If I would`ve bought them brand new, I would`ve probably spend almost 200 Euro on them. :-) Ebay is also a good option for high qualitiy items, if you don`t mind that they are used. But it is definately a start for getting ones wardrobe chic on a smaller budget and built up from there. :-) P.S. I never buy animal products that are new, only used ones. It is a way of reducing animal cruelty. If I purchase new items I always look that they are vegan and animal friendly. :-)

I used to love wearing jeans, but since having kids they are so much more uncomfortable around the belly (even if technically speaking my belly has slimmed down, but it will never be the same again i think) and all i want to wear is dresses... the dresses I own are better suited for summer so I'm actively looking for the perfect kind of dress to wear in the winter. Perfect timing for your video:)

I live in Georgia where the winters are very mild, but I dont like to be bare legged with my winter dresses. I wear leggings alot with clogs. Dresses To me are much more flattering to my shape than jeans or pants so I wear them all the time, even in the winter. Loved this post and your boots!

I typically would start with a base of leggings & a long sleeve T-shirt. Then layer a dress over with a sweater or cardigan over that. Then boots, socks, hat, gloves, and scarf. If I’m hot in the house...usually the socks come off & the cardigan/sweater. But we tend to keep our house at 65 year round.

I live in New England where it can be very cold and as an experiment I wore only dresses for a whole year. I could stay warm and cozy in winter by layering on a tank top, full slip, turtleneck jersey, my dress, and then a cardigan. I would wear either tights or fleece-lined leggings with socks under it all, and knee-high boots if wanted extra warmth compared to shoes or booties.

Thank you for those chic examples Jennifer. I"ve been mainly a jeans person all my life but I want to wear dresses more often because they are so much more comfortable. Maybe it would be look more original, too, not to rely on jeans so much. I have to wear dressy black jeans or slacks five days a week at work and I get fed up with them, because even though I found the best fitting pair, my hips still feel squashed by the end of the day!

This was a great video, Jennifer! At the risk of asking a totally silly question, do you put a slip on with a dress and tights? If so, do you have one you recommend? I find that skirts kind of stick to my leggings, not exactly from static though I would say. Thank you!

Wool tights and fur-lined boots help me stay warm in freezing temperatures. Sometimes I will also wear sweatpants over the tights. Yes, it is necessary whenit is -30 Fahrenheit outside. 🙂

Do you spray anything on your dresses or tights to stop the dress creeping up your leg? I sometimes find static can be a bit of a pain.

    • @TheDailyConnoisseur
      @TheDailyConnoisseur  5 років тому

No... I don't normally need to. The static isn't too bad.

Put a safety pin inconspicuously on the inside of your dress or skirt hem and you'll have a lot less static

Someone, in another response, mentioned spraying hairspray on your tights (I think it was) to stop static. I live in a very dry climate, so I’m going to try that.
