  • I purchased a universal power lock kit to upgrade the Mini Truck. Adding a keyless entry feature takes a bit of work, but it's a worthwhile investment.

No alarm, but you have door locks. Now you can add an alarm without much effort.
Door locks are on my to do list!

You really should add a fuse to the fuse box for the unswitched power so you can use the appropriate size fuse, it would actually be less work than it took to tap into an existing power wire. You can also drill holes for zip ties to secure the wiring inside the doors. Long term, raw holes in metal where wires run thru will wear thru the insulation on the wires leading to shorts and or corrosion (the vibration from driving alone will cause it). Some things to think about.

Honestly you did an amazing job on that, & I'm not to proud to say, I AM NOT A WIRE GUY... it'll take me many times watching this to install but best one on UA-cam...

Hi, thank you for saying that. I know I had to watch a few videos before I understood each step. Good luck with your install!

9:32 - I feel your frustration. I bought a remote door lock kit for my 1996 Hijet mini truck but I've been procrastinating the job until I remove the entire dash and both door cards to paint the interior, because I'm a big old guy and there is no way I'm going to contort myself upside down under the dash to do the wiring. I'll do all of the wiring (auxiliary fuse block for the double DIN stereo with backup camera, front LED light bar, cargo lights, rear LED auxiliary lighting, remote entry, heated seats) when I Monstaliner paint the interior, which has now been pushed to the spring when the weather is amenable to painting outside because I don't live in Hawaii. 😀
I'm concerned that the switched ground electrical system in my Hijet wouldn't allow the turn signals to flash when the doors are locked and unlocked but that didn't seem to be a problem for you and your Acty.
My remote door lock project is a bit more involved. I bought the four door kit and I'll be using the rear door actuators to lock and unlock the custom tool boxes that I'm making from large 20 mm ammo cans that mount on the headache rack, above the bed sides and just below the rear window. It's gonna be sweet when I finally finish that project.
I lock and unlock my doors frequently. That will quickly wear out the door lock cylinder, which would be very difficult to replace in an old kei truck. Power door locks will save my mechanical lock cylinders, in addition to being a cool flex. 🙂

I’m glad I did all the wiring when I pull the dash and door cards out to repaint made it much easier

That was my plan for my Hijet kei truck. I barely managed to get the Monstaliner paint job on the exterior in October but the interior painting has been weather delayed until spring. I have a long list of electrical upgrades to do while I have the dash and door cards removed for painting. I'm way too old to work upside down to do wiring behind the dash on a mini truck.

It was a good fit! Camera quality is quite bad, however wireless CarPlay has been working great. I’ve been really happy with it so far.

@@JulesMariani - I went a bit upscale with an ATOTO double DIN Android head unit and four 6.5 inch marine speakers that I'll install in the corners of the cab ceiling, out of harm's way in my rough and tumble 4WD kei truck. I haven't done the wiring projects because I'm waiting to remove the dash when I paint the interior. I'm too old to jam myself upside down behind the dash.
