    For Lajja Rajkumar Santoshi took Illaiyaraaja only for the background score.

    That part about Raja. Only a man who is madly in love with him can speak like that.
    BR and his reaction to each word of what Govind said of Raja... is us. Brilliant half an hour, well spent!
    BR, you are something else.

    Govind was spot on when he said Maestro Ilayaraja songs have "surprise" element every 3rd line. This was asked as a question by director GVM when he interviewed IR in 2016 for the IR-1000 Vijay TV event. IR replied that "Music SHOULD have that; otherwise it would sound boring". ONLY a RARE GENIUS could say that! When it comes to IR music, nothing is enough; but here both Govind and BR did not bring anything "new" to the table. I wonder if Govind knows about the use of Udukkai in songs like Uchi vagundheduthu, Kaathirundhu kaathirundhu (Vaideghi Kaathirundhaal movie) etc. WHY movies' scores like the Symphonic GURU (Malayalam - 1997), Classical Ente Suryaputhrikku, Eerie Poovizhi Vaasalile / Uruvam / Moodu Pani etc. were not dealt with, here? IR music is like the mysterious, unfathomable Ocean and these 2 have a long way to go. I am surprised how BR did not know that Lajja songs were done by Anu Malik EXCEPT 1 song (Kaun dagar) + the stunning BGM, which were by IR. Salilda listened to "Darling darling" song from Priya and exclaimed "I have never heard anything so beautiful in my life ever before". IR was held in awe even by his peers and his predecessors. Also, there is NO Ilayaraja "era"; it is just a popular fabricated myth.

    That joy on Baddy's face, like a kid in a candy store, well that's what Raaja sir's music does.
    Govind, listening you speak on Baburaj master made me smile wide. An extra ordinary talent left too early.

    Legendary composer Ilayarajas contribution to Malayalam is awesome.. Late 70,s to 90,s he has created soulful, breathtaiing, original music which none of his Malayalam counterparts could think of.. Except Late Johnson Sir.. I would add an another song which was not mentioned in this fabulous discussion... Please google youtube ( fot Tamil audience ) for.. Songs from the film Atharvam..Puzhayorathil.. Poonthoni ethila.. Sung by Chithra.. ( the 4 tunes were created just in hours and handed over to the director and the remuneration was only equal to what they normally pay to Malayalam composers.. Though Raja sir was getting much higher... Ilayaraja Sir belongs to an another planet only for Music..

    Lovely conversation! I wish they had included Devarajan master and Dakshinamoorthi swami in the discussion, when they were talking about the MSV era.

    Dude BR you surprised me infact❤️. I didn't expect you to know the good old malayalam movie just by the reference of songs by Mr.Govind. You have always been a movie buff I guess. I wish you do your own interview🙈 because no one is good at interviewing you the way you interview others🤭

    Is it right to say that MSV was the RD Burman of Tamil film music ? He had a wildly experimental style.

    • @MK-dg6qj

      Didn't MSV start before RDB

    • @rjshb
      @rjshb 3 роки тому

      Yeah that's right. I meant MSVs style was like RDBs - introducing variety of sounds from global genres.

    • @saivjay01
      @saivjay01 3 роки тому +2

      No Sir.. MSV is SD Da's contemporary... He was more spirited composer. May be RD picked up such a style.

      There is NO "era" for Maestro Ilayaraja or his music. He is composing for the past 45+ years, and STILL does. Commercial success does NOT have anything to do with being a genius in music. He has composed for 500+ movies since 1991 Anjali which was his 500th movie. He NEVER confined himself to any genre / big banners / big names / language. Moreover, there is NOTHING called "South Indian music". Those are all fancy and funny terms created by you all, which should NOT make it the "norm". After all, do you all call it as "Hollywood music" and "American music"?!

      @@sakthis357 though her interview was great, she’s not a composer or a musician in the specific sense, is she.. Think it’s great to hear from composers in particular on what influenced their compositional styles, etc .
