Martin Sheen is such a wonderful actor ; same for Christopher Walken & Nathalie Baye ; I guess it's what shows the difference between good & average actors : the first ones are still good at an age where their beauty and physical attraction are long gone
I loved the dish washing scene of catch me if you can, while leo was watching brenda's parents dance romantically accompanied by the song, it touched me and i caught feels, i thought it was what he wanted for his divorced parents. Succesfully made me cry a bit.
"Embraceable You" Embrace me, my sweet embraceable you Embrace me, you irreplaceable you Just one look at you My heart grew tipsy in me You and you alone Bring out the gypsy in me I love all the many charms about you Above all, I want these arms about you Dont be a naughty baby Come to papa, come to papa do My sweet embraceable you [brief interlude] I love all the many charms about you Above all, I want my arms about you So dont you be, a naughty baby Come to papa do My sweet embraceable you
There was a lifetime of sadness in her voice even at such a young age. Her aural melancholy could infuse an otherwise light ditty like this with a whole new emotional dimension. (4/18/18)
I was racking my brain trying to remember where I heard it and thank god someone mentioned catch me if you can..I love Judy garland I'm only 27 but I'm so into her and her music I wish she was still with us
FINALLY. Someone who uploaded the full version! I mean, her voice is absolutely stunning, and so gorgeous...she's gorgeous! I know all of this was way before my time, but I honestly don't care. I am a fan of classical music like this...
Thank you sooo much for posting this. Absolutely incredible. Judy Garland was one of the greatest talents the world has ever seen and will always live in my heart and I certainly hope in the hearts of all people, untouched by time.
She was the greatest talent ever. There was nothing she couldn't do. ACT-COMEDY OR DRAMA, SING-JAZZ, SWING, BLUES, CONTEMPORARY, PATRIOTIC, RELIGIOUS, AND OF ALL THINGS, ROCK AND ROLL. IF YOU HAVE NEVER HEARD HER VERSION OF "THE PURPLE PEOPLE EATER" THAT SHE SANG IN HER NIGHT CLUB ACT, THEN BRING IT UP ON YOUR COMPUTER. IT'S A GREAT VERSION, AND THE AUDIENCE LOVED IT. Judy was the absolute best ever, bar none. 51.years after her death and her fan base is still growing. She will be the very best for eternity.
Thank you for the embraceable masterpiece by Judy. The Girl crazy version so to speak was even more approachable for dancers... and was recorded during the same Decca studio session a month earlier than Have yourself a merry little Christmas for Meet me in St Louis movie. The rest is history.... Nobody ever proved to have been so classy, talented, charming and humanly multifaceted than Judy the Queen was. Absolute perfection... She must have been sent from above... I mean somewhere from over the rainbow where she is now of course with Mickey and Gene Kelly having a ball !!!!!!!
Has anyone who's listened to her earlier music noticed a distinct change between her voice in 1940 and her voice in 1941? It seems that in that year, her voice went through a dramatic maturity, one that carried and developed throughout the rest of the decade.
+Luke Basile (SSJ2Luke) Her voice went through a magical change between 1938 when she sang 'Zing Went the Strings of My Heart' (in 'Listen Darling') and 1939 when she sang 'Over the Rainbow' (in 'The Wizard of Oz'). In 1938 she still had a juvenile voice; By 1939 she had a fully mature adult voice, and her 'Over the Rainbow' was one of the greatest performances in the history of Hollywood.
EdFred Listen to the way she sings Embraceable You in this video and then look at how she sang it in Girl Crazy a few years later. There's a huge difference.
aww! thank you for the wonderful feedback! im glad you like it! and theres nothing wrong with liking music from back in the days. personally i believe this is real music!
IonianGreek - so true! For me she is the greatest American popular singer ever. Combine that with her acting and dancing abilities one might even argue she was our greatest entertainer of all.
Someone who wants to embrace me sent me a link to this, which brought a smile to my face, even if she is two time zones away at the moment. Funny to think she was singing torch songs a year after playing Dorothy. It must have felt good to be out of that binder.
Contrary to the description, I believe this was recorded on October 16, 1939, not 1940. With Victor Young's orchestra. (Decca DLA 1869). Young had just conducted Decca's album of songs from 'Wizard of Oz', so he was the musical bridge between Garland the kid and Garland the 'torchy' young woman.
I love this song! It's such a beautiful song. I like her version and I like the original version by Gershwin too, but I like Judy's better. My Grandma loved Judy Garland. My Mom still likes her, and I do too. I was born in 1982 and I like Judy and Gershwin. Why not? Lol☺ I was first introduced to Judy the same way a lot of us were- when someone put The Wizard Of Oz movie into the VCR for us when we were kids and that someone for me was my Grandma Carmella.❤ RIP Grandma Carm, Judy Garland, & Gershwin. ❤😇
This recording was made the year after the movie "The Wizard of Oz." This is Dorothy Gale at the age of 18. Amazing how precocious some people are/were.
I know I'm committing sin for saying this, but there was one flaw in this version. They should've changed the lyrics "come to papa" to "come to mama". They did it for other female singers, why not Judy? Otherwise, this song is perfection.
i am a big judy garland fan this is nice but ella killed this/ NOW judy kills old man river IN 63, come rain or come at carneige hall in 61 and sorry lena/ she slayed and i mean killed stormy weather in 61 and left on the floor that audience in a frenzy in 61 and me on the floor in front of my computer on floor in 2019, sorry lena your my girl too / but she killed the crap out of stormy weather at carniege hall but ella has embraceable you/ maybe its the orchestration too light for me / i wonder what mort lindsay or count basie would have done with a different arrangement / at this age i dont thinks she quite understood the depth of this lyric /but i am sure others will disagree / to go to the depths of this song but believe me/ she lays me out with everything else she did early recording of all god children and how did she ever get ah old of stevie wonder for once in my life/ love that in 68/ sam's song/ just imagine one of these days on her t v show she Put her whole body in that song/and moon river/ swanee the recording IN the studio/ THE OUTTKAES / yes yes yes / now this song in 63 is DIFFERENT TENURE AND FEEL ALTOGETHER./ A SOUTH SIDE CHICAGO FAN FOR LIFE

I love this so much that I cry every time I listen to it.

Everything she sings is sublime!

Amazing how precocious some people are/were.
and i said " I would not leave France without her"
This version is fantastic, but listen to the version from Girl Crazy. My god, that version is absolute perfection.
Raphael Basile This is much better, I prefer her lighter voice before it became leaden in 1942/3
Was this remastered in some way? The sound quality is excellent.
I know I'm committing sin for saying this, but there was one flaw in this version. They should've changed the lyrics "come to papa" to "come to mama". They did it for other female singers, why not Judy? Otherwise, this song is perfection.
